    Ok...... I just had to stop in the middle of making a set of these place mats and tell you HOW MUCH FUN they are! I’m using a jelly roll of batik turquoise and blues and greens (plus additional fabric for backing and pockets and binding) for some dear friends-and all the while I am thinking of them and how much they will enjoy them. And it’s like doing a really cool jigsaw puzzle-only it’s way easier!🤣💕

    I made this in the table runner. I had quite a bit of fraying. From what I have read this common but less so with high quality fabric. The fabric that came with the kit was very pretty, but maybe could have been a little more tightly woven. It was also my first quilting project ever. Kinda fun!!

    • @ShabbyFabrics
      @ShabbyFabrics  Před 4 lety

      Fraying will happen, even with the highest quality fabrics on raw edges. We just try to handle raw edges as little as possible while working with our projects. So glad you had fun with it! What's your next project? - Morgan

    Wow this is a great kit! But the idea... it's mind blowing. Basically you can take a piece of batting do your design on it and quilt as you go! :) Genious! Here in Portugal it is very difficult to get these kits. The few places that carry them are highly over priced. And if we order them on-line we get hit with the huge custome's fees. Thanks so much for this!

I could pencil out some designs on graph paper and then transfer a design by drawing sewing lines on my own batting leftovers to do QAYG anything!!! Combining paper-piecing techniques with drawn pattern on batting. Voila!

      Great question! The top of the pocket is actually the folded edge of that piece of fabric. The raw edges are on the two sides and the bottom, and are sewing into the seam allowance or covered by binding. - Morgan

      It would also be pretty to use one of those specialty stitches on most of our machines to enhance the fold!

      Thank you for watching! Unfortunately, we are sold out of the Fruitful Life kits however, we do have the batting available so you could choose your own material to make these place mats! Happy sewing! ~Leah www.shabbyfabrics.com/Quilt-As-You-Go-Venice-Placemats-Batting-P72562.aspx
