      Inquisition was ok. And dragon age 2 was absolute trash.
      I’m really curious about the decision making process that caused dragon age to go from a gritty dark fantasy experience to generic fantasy bullcrap.
      Without all the retcons and 180 on the narrative, dragon age could’ve seen witcher level of success…
      It’s a real possibility dread wolf would just be another hot piece of dung released by late stage BioWare

    I keep coming back to this part. All the way back from 2009/2010. Dragon Age Origins was the first "real" game i played in terms of story, character development and all the things an rpg entails.
    In a way i wish they had made a remaster of this game, but with how things are looking with Bioware, EA and AAA games in general....I really hope they dont. I feel like they would somehow fuck it up. Let this masterpiece be just that. A masterpiece of its time.

    Always beleived personally that look in Duncan’s eye at the end of his life there was him realizing loghain’s betrayal. He knew the plan and saw we as the MC got the beacon lit, so he realized loghain must not have responded to it. Died in his last moments knowing exactly who was responsible.

    • @user-cf4bg7he7y
      @user-cf4bg7he7y Před 13 dny +5

      Battle was unwinnable anyway. That was the entire point. You want to hate Loghain, you really do. It isn't until later that you realise they completely underestimated how big the darkspawn horde was. Loghain DID make the right call to retreat his forces, as all charging down that mountain would have done is prolong the battle but the outcome would have been the same. Total annihilation of the Kings forces, which would have been disastrous because those forces that retreated made up the meat of the final battle.
      But Loghain also saw an opportunity to get rid of the 'idiot' king and save Ferelden. I ended up seeing a man that did what he thought best for his country instead of seeing an evil man. It was very well written. Everyone will have their own say on if Loghain is a traitor or not, but you cannot deny that his actions did lead to saving Ferelden in the end.

    • @Ryanfinder226
      @Ryanfinder226 Před 13 dny +9

      @@user-cf4bg7he7y there is nothing definitely showing that loghain was right. I also don’t hate loghain, he’s a great antagonist and his motivations based off old biases make sense.
      We defeat the darkspawn horde with only a fraction of the forces that loghain started with. It’s entirely possible loghains reinforcements would have allowed the battle to hold long enough for the archdemon to appear and for the grey wardens to try and slay it. It’s left ambiguous whether this would have succeeded on purpose.

    • @user-cf4bg7he7y
      @user-cf4bg7he7y Před 13 dny +3

      @Ryanfinder226 It's pretty much mentioned several times over the campaign that the darkspawn forces at ostagar were far more numerous than anticipated.
      Pretty sure there is also a scouting report before the final battle that says the same thing.
      You are right that it's left up to you to decide if he made the right call or not, but the battle was definitely unwinnable and the game makes no mistake at mentioning that over the course of the game. Loghains forces would not have changed the outcome.
      You are also outnumbered in the final battle but you take the darkspawn horde by surprise and attack from multiple directions holding only long enough to let the grey wardens defeat the arch dragon.
      The archdemon didn't appear at ostagar, so there was no way to actually win regardless.

    • @Ryanfinder226
      @Ryanfinder226 Před 13 dny +6

      @@user-cf4bg7he7y it is true there are more darkspawn than anticipated, but that’s not the defeat you think it is. Blights always outnumber everyone else there’s millions of DS in the deep roads and they come in force during a blight.
      We hear from a few sources that the reason they chose ostagar was intentionally to use the old fort’s ruins to create chokepoints where the enemy’s numbers can be mitigated.
      As for the archdemon not appearing, this was the vanguard of the invasion, it’s not going to appear in the first fight that’s true, but using the chokepoints of ostagar and the reinforcements hammering the bogged down DS to hopefully rout the horde, they could have bought more time for it to appear.
      Regardless how you think the battle would have gone, even if loghain was 100% right he still made the wrong call. Many of the kingdom’s elite were fighting with the king alongside all of the grey wardens. He could have easily attacked and committed a fighting retreat to pull out the whole army and thus left ferelden’s forces only slightly depleted.
      Then he wouldn’t have had to make to many tyrannical moves as regent to rebuild his forces.

      @@user-cf4bg7he7y he could prolong it long enough for the elite force to retreat and fight another day, with the king and the grey warden intact, there will be better chance for all human kingdoms to rallies for greater force, then they can send royal emmisaries to demand the help of dwarven and elf, i still believe it is a better choice to did not betray the king, that is why i execute loghain in my playthough

    I actually loved both Inquisition and Origins but, I didn't actually have an opinion in what's better because the two games have completely different theme, making them pretty hard to compare for me. Dragon age origins, I love the dark gritty tone, I love the characters, I love the politics and world building, I love the tactics of the game, the roleyplay and backstories of each class and races. Dragon age inquisition it has generic fantasy theme but made use of it well showing the beauty Thedas, I love the Orlesian politics, the mage politics and the Orlesian Mages, a new way to see tevinter through Dorian and to see it as an actual normal nation not a cliche bad guy kingdom, I love the characters as well, and the combat animations, I love how its like in Origins where conversation changes depending on your race and class (unlike mass effect where shepard keeps forgetting that he/she is an biotic). Both have different themes and made well.use of them, the only thing I hated about the two games are: For origins, the combat does get boring later on. Inquisition, it took me days to finish side quests for one map, it's too tedious.
    I replayed Origins more than inquisition, not because I liked it more, but I don't have to play for days to finish side quests. I hope they change that in inquisition (I doubt it) or have a mod that can allow me to skip side quests.

    • @irishpatriotv2575
      @irishpatriotv2575 Před rokem +3

      Inquisition is awful, gameplay is a snore fest thanks to all those grindy/repetitive side quests and how empty the world is, armour and clothing design is terrible, the combat makes fighting in DA2 look good, half of the companions are intolerable and Corpyheus is probably the weakest villain in the entirety of DA, which is especially sad when you consider that the Archdemon of Origins doesn't even talk or really have a motive.

    • @cyfertea8707
      @cyfertea8707 Před rokem +2

      @@irishpatriotv2575 I'd agree with the open world (which I think is forced, if the game is a linear rpg like the older Dragon age, I think it would have been way better). The armor system is a bit subjective, since the fan base is divided on that one. Personally tho I prefer the old stat distribution system of DA Origins. I'd disagree with the companions tho, the companions are well written "almost" all the characters are well written for me as well except probably Corypheus. I'd agree with Corypheus tho, personally I'd rather just have the story about the Templar-Mage war than to fight another arch demon. I mean ngl, even tho DA origins archdemon is cool, the thedas politics and history are actually very interesting (at least for me). Heck I'm more interested in the Orlesian civil war, and the templar mages war than the war against Corypheus. It's just Corypheus and the Venatori failed to be a threat. The only real threat the Venatory and Corypheus did is actually their attack on Haven, and the future shown during the mages quest, and after that the Venatory has been outmaneuvered by the Inquisition almost every time. I mean I can't really blame the Venatori, Venatory is filled with zealot cultist or unimportant politicians who just wants some power and some rejected generals who are too unstable to he a proper generals. Now compete that to the Inquisition who has support of the entire Orlesian empire and the Ferelden kingdoms, talented generals and commanders, Political prodigies and even the Queen of Orlais, probably one of the best spymasters in thedas, retired generals who returned to service, and an army trained by Ex templars? Yeah Venatory isn't really going to win that one and that's the problem, they aren't a threat. The final battle is basically the Inquisition mopping out the Venatori with ease, now compare that to (I know this is an unfair comparison) the battle for earth in Mass effect, that was brutal, you can see your own med dying left and right, the desperation of the battle and shows that despite the combined army of the Milky way, they're barely denting the Reaper army, now that is a Threat. Corypheus isn't that, he's just a maker wannabe mage who thinks he's important even tho he's nothing more but a forgotten relic of the past.

Its raining...a horde of orcs, and reluctant and afraid soldiers. The developers had a clear inspiration that borders almost piracy. But, its still fantastic. It felt grounded and real. And gives the players a tangible feel of how large the darkspawn horde is, verses the combined might of the Ferelden armies. Its, just...well fantastic.

    After the years I sorta lean towards Loghains decision. If his legion were to attack instead of retreat they all would of been slain and Ferelden would of been in a worst shape than what it already was.Not to mention the on going problems with Demons and Bandits running around but throwing the Wardens under the bus was unacceptable.

    I know everyone cries AUTISMO DETECTED whenever anyone starts talking about realistic tactics in fantasy stuff, but I do think it would make for a much more interesting atmosphere. Imagine a pike line holding against these things, the bodies stacking up as swordsmen dart underneath the forest of spears to hack at the vulnerable legs of darkspawn getting pincushioned on a thousand razor sharp points.
    Imagine how brutal and grungy these kinds of fantasy battles would be if they showed the grittier, hardcore, metal as fuck parts of medieval combat. I'm just saying, it may at least be a little less goofy than sending hundreds of disorganized bozos sprinting dick first into a horde of monsters much more ferocious and generally better at merciless melee grinds.
    I don't know why everyone always thinks showing the more practical, realistic solutions of medieval battles would make them more boring. Practicality is tailor-made for grand scale slaughter, if you can't make a realistic battle extremely interesting then that's on you and your team lol.
    Then again, with engine limitations and such it's probably easier to just have everyone swinging swords at each other, the more tactics and disciplined formations you try to include, the more specific animations and detail that is for the director and animators to try to work in.

      There are such games, if a bit rare. I would recommend warhammer series for starter, but yeah... Standing in line and poking with a spike, or standing on the side of a tower and sending arrows into the distance not even knowing if you hit anything for half an hour doesn't sound well... fun in RPG-type of games. In more strategic orientations like total war, it is very different.

      4:14 That smirk at the end always betrayed his explanation that he abandoned Cailan for the good of Fereldan. It proved that Loghain planned for this betrayal as part of a coup and was reinforced by the fact that he immediately ran back to Denerim, had is daughter Anora pronounced de facto Queen, had himself instated as Regent of Fereldan and supported Arl Howe in _his_ bloody murdering and usurping of Teyrn Cousland and his family. Guy wasted zero time in doing this.
      In fact, that was the whole reason that Howe stopped over at Bryce Cousland's castle in the first place under the guise of riding out together but he had all of his men with him in hiding and waiting for the castle to fall asleep to strike like the coward that he was even though all of his men were already supposed to have made it to Ostagar to reinforce the King. Loghain knew Bryce Cousland would oppose him after he betrayed Cailan and Bryce had the power to rally the Fereldan nobility against him so in exchange for the slaughter, Loghain had already agreed to give Arl Howe Bryce's title and lands. This was all set up well before Loghain called the retreat that got Cailan killed.
      Even all the way into Inquisition, Loghain is still trying to excuse what he did as his duty to protect all of Fereldan, refusing to admit the truth that he simply wanted to betray the Theirin line and install the Mac Tir line in it's stead, betraying the very King (Maric) that elevated him from peasant farmer to Teyrn and friend. He hated Cailan for aligning with the Wardens, even though the Wardens are non-political, Loghain saw it as a betrayal as their HQ was based out of Orlais. Having fought in the war against Orlais with King Maric, Loghain was incapable of relinquishing his hate for anything he deemed Orlesian and, in his madness, saw the Wardens as the first step of an invasion and blamed Cailan for letting them in. This gave rise to the belief that his line was more worthy of claiming the throne of Fereldan than Maric's. The man proved he was a lunatic. Even after witnessing the darkspawn horde that proved the existence of an upcoming blight, he still went through with his plan to desert Cailan and steal his throne.

    It's shame to know that Dreadwolf will be no near to Origins... Dragon Age Origins is one of the best RPG game's but it's predecessors couldnt manage to be like that and i also believe Dreadwolf will be like Inquistion. I swear if Bioware would've followed Origins path and produce 2 more Dragon Age game like Origins they would ve worth more then CD Project today and their sitiuation wouldn't be like that. Because Dragon Age has a great universe with lots of stories, builds a better world then Witcher universe, lots of things to theorize, fascinating history and fascinating culture's. It's shame to see such a great universe turns to a woke project's like ''Dragon Age Absolution''. I hope that one day Dragon Age universe will gets the place it deserved. I hope series would not end with Dreadwolf...

Origins in itself had everything you could wish for I i believe they squeezed everything they could out of it. It's the same with diablo 2 , cs 1.6. Since those were that good the next one just cannot live to the expectations. Inquasition story was as boring as the rest of the games but at least they had beautiful world.

      Well, Tyrn Loghain was correct in his belief that King Cailan was an idiot.
      Archers should be on the ramparts or at least well behind the shield wall formations. Heavy soldiers should have stayed in-between the palisades to protect their flanks, or not be outside the fortress at all. The Marbari warhounds should have been used to flank the darkspawn, not be sent into an useless frontal assault. The Ash warrior in the camp gave you this big speech about how they fight "side by side" with their hounds, so why send them alone? And where were the mages??? There were about 10 mages in the camp, not even counting Wynn or the tranquil. Some AOE casts like Blizzard and Firestorm would have made the first darkspawn assault wave crumble immediately. At worst some Ogres would have gone through. And why did Duncan, who was always a matter-of-fact dude, suddenly give in to anger and attacked the Ogre instead of retreating after Cailan's death?
      I would have won at Ostagar if I was the commander.

      @@raphaelforkel7759 It was a trap with small contingent of soldiers as a bait, that's why they waited outside Ostagar and charged into the enemy, expecting the main army to strike from the rear and flanks... But, unfortunately, it did not happen!

    • @Shagon89
      @Shagon89 Před rokem +3

      Anyway, Ostagar was doomed from the start - It was not a simple raid, as they thought, but a full scale Darkspawn Invasion/Blight, led by an Archdemon. Loghain probably realized it and pulled out the army to save them, sacrificing a smaller group. A dick move, I agree, but still it was probably the best choice to retreat and regroup as well as to get more intel on the Enemy.
