Fantastic video! It highlights the importance of meticulous inspection, especially when dealing with replacement panels. Always test factory replacement panels with thinners before painting. I've encountered cases where these panels weren't even coated with E Coat. This is real-life knowledge that isn't typically taught in trade school. Great video as always!
Absolutely correct first time I've seen this on a brand new oem part👊👊
Great video, the rear door was crazy after you painted it.
I think as a home painter i would have been totally thrown by that ,thanks for the knowledge.
Love the videos, love your passion for the craft and your willingness to share your many years of painting cars.
Yes, people don’t realize that some things are out of the painter’s control. I think many will feel like every day it’s perfect, and it’s not. Not every day it’s a hobby.
LOVE THE FACT YOU SHOW THE UP'S AND DOWN'S OF PAINTING . GIVE THE BOSS A OSCAR FOR THAT ACTING MAD .
👍👍
Hey Kandy Man. Interesting video. Never realized paint thickness was so important for a sensor to work properly. Thanks for your time annd effort putting great content together. Have a great weekend dude.
You bet!
Glad I’m not the only one this happened to. Had a 2022 equinox and the new hood came in shiny like that but I prepped it out like always. And it had the same effect with the metallics. But none the other parts did so had to redo it. The parts supplier paid for the extra time and materials luckily. My boss told me to spray it anyway so it wasn’t on me lol
Kandy man back at it again. Keep doing your thing. God bless you.🙏🏽😊😊👍🏽🚙🛻
Glad to see I’m not the only one that has issues. That absolutely sucks brother.
👊👊
😂😂😂great video Kandy Man keep them coming! Appreciate your work and time, dedication you make to come up with these videos. Hard work pays brother and you're a typical example of a hard working man.
I appreciate it!
Great video Kandy Man, I've never seen an ecoat react like that before so I found that very interesting I always scuff the ecoat before I paint with sealer even though the TDS says you don't need to.
I was hoping to learn a bit more about the paint thickness gauge as mine looks like yours but it reads in microns where yours is mills so I'm still not sure what the numbers should be on my gauge but my SLK reads around 120 microns, I'll have to check mine to see if I can change it to mills.
Thanks for sharing👌🙏👍John UK
Glad you have an understanding boss! Sometimes things happen
Yeah I do
"Now I'm in trouble with the boss " 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Funny skit dude 😂
All seriousness thanks for the education. Buddy of mine just went through the same thing
👊👊
It’s the Quality of the resins. Great video.
This is what I love about your channel bro, you keep it real and work thru any issues like the pro you are! I like your boss, bosses like that keep you on your toes! (;
I appreciate that
Your boss was peeved. He called the sheriff on you!
Hands down your my favorite painter and I just followed you about 5 days ago
Thank you
Looks like we gotta solvent test every panel these days.. just like bumpers.. take it off and treat it like a raw panel
First time I've had bad ecoat will be on the lookout from now on
Use one of those gauges regularly at my place of work . Big up k man explaining how and why used 😊😊😊😊
👊👊
WOW! Glad I am retired now . Automotive painting is not a proven science! Great job showing what really happens day to day in the body shop paint department. Your boss is a good actor. Normal bosses are a little more upset when things like that happen and cars got to go!
some parts get repaired with a 1k primer that may wrinkle cause of no hardner
I’ve ran into issues where someone had the panel previously they sanded it then realized it was the wrong part then they used black spray paint to make it look E-coat they send it back to the dealer then I ended up with the part not knowing then I’ve noticed when I sand the part it sands funny then I put thinner and wash it away and start from scratch if I don’t have time to wait for another part
Thank u
I've been using coat thickness gauges for 3 years now, the best in the industry are from Elcometer (parent company of Sagola). And by the way, not all of them are precise at all. You have to calibrate them first hand with their respective small square like tins with their respective thickness measurement.
You are correct
Very nice video it seems the clearcoat is in the 50 microns range
We’ve had several new panels that have had a coat of ecoat colour paint. I think they do this so the panel is good enough to sell. Very annoying. But that would explain what happened on the rear door.
Looks good. The joy of having to redo something 😭
Realistically you should remove it all since that bases hand t set, it will fail eventually and peel off the. Ar repainting it won’t solve the issue now just make it look better
👍
Aloha Kandy man. When you first saw something going funny with that new rear door could you just prep it and lay down some 2 k primer and spray over that??? Or should I just strip it to be 100% safe? Just weighing my options 🤙🏽
Must be 100 percent Stripped
What do you recommend for a non professional paint gauge?
Check description in video
Kandy man i have a 2 questions. i am doing a full corvette 1970 and i want all my parts to be as close as they can be, i learned from you that pressure and distance and coats and tempeture can make a difference i can not really control a whole lot but its not that bad you think i will be ok. and you did a corvette put epoxy and slick sand can i use 2k primer to to seal it or it has to be epoxy and can i spray base coat after slick sand or do i have to prime over slick sand. ?
Yes
I don’t know if you have any car rental accounts, but we do, and you will for sure run into that problem if you are working on a rental Tesla.
I hear that
You mention a paint thickness gauge to use on the non metallic parts, which one of them do you use or recommend?
Check out electrometercompany sagola
Looked like epoxy, base, clear from bare metal correct?
That is correct
My guess is 2.35 mils.. 🤷🏻♂️. Nope I was way off haha
Whats the product number for the epoxy sealer you used?
Dp90lf
My film gauge only does metal. I've been wanting to get one that does plastic? Any idea of one that's affordable?
They are not cheap for sure
@@kandyman5315 Yeah, I believe the one's I saw were expensive
You say you painted epoxy sealer on the same day don’t they recommend almost a week for epoxy to dry
Epoxy used as a wet on wet sealer application
Surely you're talking microns as 5mm is a lot off paint?
👍
Im confused is it microns or mills
Both I'm talking mills
@kandyman5315 thanks for letting me know, brilliant content
Thank you
Hahaha dude stopped that big boy talk real quick
🤣
