LOL, I love how excited he gets talking about Tacozilla. I get winded too, when I get excited like that. Shows true passion! And, TEAK! Seriously. Pure class!!!
I love it. Saw it at SEMA myself and was impressed. Probably needs a turbo and some air bags in the back. The springs looked maxed out. But amazing rig for sure. Toyota would make a killing if they made these again. They would need a good partner because toyota doesn't make RVs. They just provide the base truck.
Man, if this was a double cab and with the long bed version for more room for the living spaces, this would definitely be on my list!! Love this conversion!! A tiny apartment with Toyota’s reliability, this is a win-win!! Marty, you’re the best!!! Tacozilla for the Win!
All Tacoma are he same length. A double cab would cut short the space in the back. Only reason I don't have a Taco. Only a access cab with 5'ft bed would fit in my garage.
They should make it automatic for the people who don't want to own a house but want to live off grid. They should definitely manufacture more models of this.
I would be SO happy to see Toyota start making Class C campers again! I absolutely loved my '89 Toyota Dolphin! Building in a receiver hitch and tow package would be awesome! My primary issue with my Dolphin was that I had no way to bring my motorcycle!
Nice! I dig the 1980's Taco Bell aesthetic and access to the camper from inside the vehicle. I don't see myself as a Van Life or RV type of person, but I could easily see myself getting one of these when I retire.
I love my 2014 Toyota Tacoma Pre Runner crew cab! I bought her new & she has about 112,000. She still looks brand new & I will never sell her. She has never had any issues & has taken us on many road trips & brought us home safely. Again, NEVER SELLING HER! 🥰👊🏽❤️
Is that the same Marty Schwerter that won all of the Baja races with Ivan Stewart? He is a legend in Mexico! I remember one year in Mexico, the crowds were yelling his name as he drove his Tacoma chase truck thru Ensenada. Viva Martini, Viva Martini. Congratulations on scoring this interview. We hope he comes back to visit someday. He is missed by the people of Baja!
The "Tacozilla" is in a class of its own. Not for everyone. For the serious andeventurer; not intimidated by a manual transmission! 😎 I love the idea..Alaska, British Columbia, off road knows no bounds kind of vehicle!
It's awesome!, good to see Toyota bring back, he said chinook but, more like the Sunrader. He's right it's perfect for a couple to get away in, it is very nice. For me, it's too nice, if there is such thing, I fall into that category. However, is not an overlander, it's more of an overroader. Nonetheless it is very nice.
Man this is beautiful. I mean if it's less than the cost of a new home.. like the man said.it would be great for just getting out of town. Love the idea behind the manual. In Alaska I think snowboarders would love it too. I hope we will see this soon.
Please do it Toyota!!!!! this thing catches the eye so well, and think of how many people out there live in campers!!! Imagine if this thing could tow a RV, it would be a hotel on wheels!!!!
Thoughts? If you build it, they will come! I am so tired of other countries having the campers and RV's that I want that are so much better than ours! Also, of anything here worth buying there are year long waiting lists! Build it already!
Awesome!! I wouldn’t buy it because the price tag on it would be super expensive. Guaranteed it won’t be less than 80-90k, more than likely if they ever mass produced this, it would run 150k. It is awesome!! But I am sticking to my Skoolie build and keeping my Taco on track to becoming a weekend overlander.
Nice. Hopefully see these in a few years.Good desert ,beach and dirt road rig.Would put a pull out cover on that skylight to reduce daytime heat.Put duallies on it for stability and more sand flotation.Needs a front locker.Would cost around $130,000.
I’ve owned four Toyota trucks over the last 30 years and they have all been rock solid. I currently own a 2014 Tundra and unless Toyota comes out with a 1 ton this will be my last pickup. I’d never sell the Tundra but I would definitely buy this thing. But it’s been a couple of years and if they don’t get this into production soon I’m going to retire and probably won’t be able to afford this. Really nice nonetheless
I'll test it. I go into the Sierras every year since I was a kid. I owned a 1st generation and on my second generation yota now. Love to try this thing, I'd pay to try this thing.
If it was available, I think it would sell out with a waiting list for it Wish they could do something like this on the new Tundra 4x4 & I would definitely buy. Price consideration : Price of the Tacoma + $40-50K.
We were thinking of getting a Tacoma for our second vehicle, given we already have a Tundra. But the Tacozilla, would be a game changer for us and we would buy it in a heartbeat. Please start manufacturing this most awesome camper.
This prototype needs to be shown at RV shows not just auto shows. RV'rs / campers are your target market and will give you feedback on needed features. Most people at an auto show don't have a clue what they are looking at.
Of course produce it. Pricing.... ooofh that's where it would get ugly. All of the finishings definitely look luxury. Such a sweet build. Just needs a hitch on the back for a motorbike 🤙🏼
I would definite buy. Just need some additional features. For example Solar Panels for any electronics you bring, when truck is turned off. I would like to know where is the Propane tank stored for the stove?
I love outdoors this Tacozilla is a beast. I have owned a 2008 Tacoma sports trd and this truck has 280,000 miles on it still drive like the day I brought it new.
You should definitely manufacture this. I so badly want to get away. I'm retired now and I want to see the world. I have a truck this size and I don't want to add a camper shell to it. My truck already has to many miles on it already. I want an all-in-one vehicle. PLEASE I NEED THIS!!!
What an amazing overland rig ! always great to see some tucks nice video ! I myself just went to rigs and coffee meet and saw some cool trucks and builds was very fun I am not pro but also tried to record a video lol and do an interview )
The beauty of slide in campers is that they can be removed keeping the truck as a daily driver. This would be great for a retired person that wants to hit the road and keeps moving to where Air Conditioning isn't needed. A pop-top like the Chinook would be better for off roading.
Toyota needs to manufacture this. Its a no brainer, its the best in its class already. No competition luxury off road market. Look at Polaris and its market cap growth in the last 5 years. Off road market is here to stay.
Marty, thank you for creating this great camper, but you are wrong about one thing.(around 3'50") Not all overlanders are macho guys who are into cars and love manual transmission. I have been searching for an off-road camper vehicle that is absolutely reliable and provides great maneuverability and security with decent amenities. Because I don't know much about cars (I'm not apologetic about not being a "driver who knows the car"), and the last thing I wish to happen in the middle of nowhere is my car getting stalled due to a mechanical breakdown or the vehicle being incapable of handling the road condition. Being a female photographer/solo camper, having access to the hard-walled cabin without getting out of the vehicle is one of the must-haves for me. The kitchen, toilet, and shower are also must-have items. I was looking for a sprinter type of van, but I realized these vans can't get me where I want to be. TacoZilla's concept actually fits better for non-"driver" people like me. Many photographers traveling solo to the wilderness would feel the same. The naming made me think of Taco food truck, and the outdated color may need to be changed as the younger generation doesn't know about CHINOOK and has no nostalgic thoughts about it. As I can't afford 325K TruckHouse's BCT, I hope TOYOTA will manufacture automatic "TacoZilla" (under a new name and stylish color) with a solar option.
offer the option on a Tundra with a V8 so you can actually tow toys, either quads or small boat/pwc...this is great...Love Toyota but I'd deff want the dually concept like (the 89 Dolphin) the old classic ones still floating around...
OK, I am a grannie and want something with a bathroom and a bed, that I can drive and handle myself. I would prefer an automatic because I'm not going off road. I don't some big camper thing I have to hook up and wrangle hoses. This is really cool and I like the idea around $75k - It would not have to have teak floors, but a microwave would be great. Maybe a very secure back door and definitely a turbo because they get better gas mileage and power. I also have to be able to climb into it - so it can't be way above ground. This is very thought proving and tempting. Great engineering. Love it!!
@@tacomabeast Replacing the tires is the easy part, but for the tires to clear at full lock and compression with no rubbing is the more challenging part.

Looks cool, but I'd want a powerful solar system on it. I'd also like it to have a microwave and a chest freezer. I assume that the Tacoma is a smaller platform compared to an F-150 or F-350? I think I've seen some interesting builds that had the items I wanted. I'd also like it to have a Separett Toilet. It's a similar situation to a compost toilet w/o the compost. It just has to be vented out and have a fan and a vent w/ a grill to prevent critters climbing in. It's a nice build for sure. I'm trying to save money to buy something like that. I plan on being a nomad so being able to go for up to 6 days into the wilderness and do one day in civilization is my plan. I can grin and bear one shower a week so I'd probably use the shower in an emergency only, but I like having it. An outside shower would also be cool so that one can clean things off before getting in. Hope these items give you guys some ideas. Will this have an Onan generator for power from the gas tank? It's cool to have multiple sources of power just in case. Thanks!

I would guess this thing would be out of my price range but it would probably retail somewhere between $90-$120 K given what some of the "POS" sprinter vans are going for this would be a "steal" for that price
So sweet! The only criticism I have is that shower is taking up a ton of space and with a 9 gallon grey water tank, you had better shower quick. That’s maybe 2 very quick showers unless you dump your grey where you aren’t supposed to. A 40 gallon fresh and 20 gallon grey would have been sweet
