    Failures make us stronger. They are lessons in life and we need to understand them. They never stop coming. Keep on moving forward. I appreciate your honesty and the video. Thank you.

      I agree completely! I always come out a better gardener after a loss or “fail.”

    Gardening taught me to embrace failure and start again… and that mindset has trickled into many areas of my life… and I am so grateful for that

    I’m living through your garden.💚 Right now I’m in 19 degrees. This is a warmer day for Alaska. In December, January, and February it’s usually in the single digits to-15. I’ve been here most of my life but the cold has gotten to be more drastic over the years so we are going to be moving somewhere I can grow year round in the next month or two.
    I have to stay open and pray in these times. I have just expected that plans change. Lol
    Thank you so much for taking the time to make videos and do CZcams to teach. I know it would be so much easier to move on and not do the video. But it’s a life lesson for us all. 💚 I just want you to know your much appreciated. 😇 God bless you and your family.

    Thank you for being so vulnerable! I think it takes a lot of courage to talk about what doesn’t always go well on the homestead. I have faith you will still get flowers this spring!

    I hope the ranunculus continue to recover! It's been really warm in my area too. Usually we get a few feet of snow, but we've only had a few inches that have quickly melted away so far.

      It’s been a wild Winter season! They are still growing. Just anxiously waiting to see if they’ll have enough time to flower before it gets too hot.

    I say this knowing you know this...no such things as failure or loses only learning opportunities to make you a better Farmer. I personally like a little humbling failure to keep me grounded. As you said you have plenty of time to plant more starts and going forward you now understand your climate and what a tunnel can and cannot support weather wise.

    • @BerkeleyFarms
      @BerkeleyFarms  Před 2 lety +1

      Absolutely! I’ve had many “humbling” experiences when it comes to gardening/farming 😉 but I always learn so much more from those experiences

      Yep, not fun to talk about the flops but we all have them! Sean from Mindful Farmer Arkansas built it for me. He custom builds them.

    Hi Lauren I really enjoy your videos. I love that you keep it honest and show when things don't go as planned. I am a fairly new gardener so it's nice to know I am not the only one with failures lol!!! What kind of compost do you use? Do you have it delivered in bulk? I have a fairly large garden and I am finding buying by the bag is not ideal. I am just not sure what I am looking for if I buy it in bulk. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @BerkeleyFarms
      @BerkeleyFarms  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey, Sondra! We buy our compost in bulk. Sometimes we will have it delivered by the dump truck load and sometimes we’ll rent a dump trailer and haul it ourselves. Just depends on what is most feasible for us at the time. Compost is tricky-it’s hard to find a decent source around here. My best advice is to actually take a look at the compost your buying and make sure it doesn’t have a lot of trash in it. The first year we bought in bulk, we sent a dump truck to pick it up and when it was delivered it was littered with plastic, glass, fabric pieces, etc. Ask what the compost is made of. Some places will sell compost with biosolids. Also want to make sure it’s not too hot when you buy it.

    Thank you for this encouragement. I think the frost you’re talking about took out all of my brassicas too 😣 but like you said you learn so much from these setbacks. Thanks for sharing! 💚🌱

    Consider lost crops cover crops building soil for future plantings and feeding organisms in the soil. There’s always a silver lining!
