      Hi Sir,
      I'm a us citizen now. I got some question sir:
      since I'm still a Filipino according to RA 9225... I continued my contribution to Philippine SSS until 10 years while working here in the US
      1) can i still collect my Philippine SSS benefits even I don't get a dual citizenship? My husband (American) and I plan to retire in the Philippines in a few years.
      2) I have a property from my parents still in my name. Can I build a house there without problem? And can I buy a another property?
      I just want to know if I still have these rights.
      Thank you for your kind attention.
      God bless!
      NB: I might have another inquiry in the future.

    All these policies are formulated to milk natural Filipinos who acquired other citizenship. A natural born could never lose a citizenship by the law of nature, nature is the absolute power. Only the Philippines immigration laws does that. The Swiss government offers and encourages citizens of Swiss origins who were born abroad even 500 years ago. Doesn't matter if they possess 2 or more citizenships. Why giving Filipinos a hard time with a passport that is nothing worse anyway.

    Thank you for posting this very informative video regarding dual citizenship, however, I fall into a segment of the population of foreign raised Filipinos who do not speak or understand Tagalog. While I admire your command of the English language as you easily transitioned between the two languages, I unfortunately was not able to absorb half of the material.
    No worries, for I intend to interpret it eventually.
    If I may respectfully ask, with regards to your future videos geared towards those who only understand English, is if you can please speak English throughout the majority of the video. It would have been most beneficial with this video in particular because it seems it was directed towards English speaking countries because of the flags which were displayed during the beginning of said video.
    I did enjoy watching it and appreciate the content you’re producing….please continue making more!

      Yes, if you go to Philippine embassy in D. C. , you have to stay in Hotel very close to the 1600 Massachusetts Avenue, DC and your documents that you needed to bring must be complete xerox and original documents and make sure your marriage certificate if you got marr in the Philippines came from PSA Philippine Statistic Agency. because I got experience already when I came there , and the person who pro my documents did not honor my marriage certificate that was stamped and sealed by NSO and besides from that I am already a widow showing/ presented tge original and xerox copies of death certificate of my husband. So if I were you my advice when you go on vacation in the Philippines just get it there and bring all the required documents and it will be process there properly. Thank you and take care. 🙏

      If you are a former natural-born Filipino citizen who lost your Philippine citizenship by naturalization in Canada or US, you may apply for retention or re-acquisition of your Philippine citizenship. In so doing, you don’t have to renounce your Canadian or US citizenship. But if you are not a former natural born Filipino citizen, you may apply for naturalization in the Philippines.

    Clarification: All income of a US citizen, whether from inside or from outside of the US, are taxable by the US government. However, a person can invoke the benefits from the tax treaty that the US has with another country, such as the Philippines, by availing of tax exemption or preferential tax rate. And this is subject to the rule that the US government may impose on the matter. That is why all income must first be declared before one can apply for tax privileges. Please seek a professional advice from a lawyer, accountant or tax professional in your country of residence.
    The Convention between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the United States of America with Respect to Taxes on Income was signed in Manila on October 1, 1976. It entered into force on October 16, 1982, the thirtieth day following the exchange of the relevant instruments of ratification in Washington, United States on September 16, 1982. Its provisions on taxes apply on income derived or which accrued beginning January 1, 1983.
    The way it works is like this:
    “2. Most dual citizens of the U.S. and Canada do not end up owing U.S. taxes because of the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion and the Foreign Tax Credit
    Just because you have a U.S. tax obligation doesn’t mean you’ll end up owing anything at the end of the tax year - there are a few tools the U.S. provides to citizens abroad to ease its tax burden, including the Foreign Tax Credit and the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.
    The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion for U.S./Canada dual citizens
    The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE) is the most commonly used tool to lower U.S. taxes. It excludes your foreign earned income from U.S. income tax, therefore lowering (or eliminating) your U.S. tax liability. If you qualify, you’re able to exclude up to $107,600 of foreign earned income in 2020. You qualify if you live and work outside the U.S. and pass either the Bona Fide Residency test or the Physical Presence Test.
    For example, say you’re a dual citizen who was born in the U.S., now lives and works in Toronto, and has a salary of $105,000. You would be able to exclude all that income from your U.S. taxes, lowing your U.S. tax obligation to $0.”

My NSO marriage certificate was not honored by the person processing my documents, even though I also presented the death certificate of my husband , I only got the certified fir my Philippine citizenship but I was not able to get the Philippine passport. Pls continue what you are doing because this people here in DC who processed documents don't know that NSO was the previous name before PSA and they don't honor NSO certificate. Tks. The copy of my birth certificate with me was also issued by the then NSO when i applied for a permanent resident prior to becoming a naturalized US citizen. It's one reason why i'm hesitant to file my dual citizenship here particularly in Washington D.C. They might not accept it as a legit document since the required doc should come from PSA, (formerly NSO) which they are not aware of.

    • @YourLawyer
      @YourLawyer  Před rokem

      Ireland allows dual citizenship, which means that you can become an Irish citizen and remain a citizen of another country.
      Some countries do not allow dual citizenship and you should check the citizenship rules of your country of nationality if you are considering applying for Irish citizenship.
      If you are a dual citizen, you can apply to have your non-Irish passport stamped with a Without Condition Endorsement (also called Stamp 6). This stamp says that you have a right to live in Ireland without any time conditions.

    I was born in the United States, so I have an American birth certificate; however my mother was not officially a naturalized citizen of the US when I was born. So would I still need to bring my American birth certificate and proof that my mother was not yet naturalized when I was born to my appointment?

    • @YourLawyer
      @YourLawyer  Před rokem +1

      If you were born after the 1973/1981 Philippine Constitution and your mother was still a Filipino citizen, you are considered a Filipino citizen by birth, applying the principle of jus sanguinis. Under the principle of jus sanguinis, children born of Filipino parent/s are considered as citizens of the Philippines. You must therefore be a dual citizen by birth. RA 9225 does not apply to you. All that you need is to be recognized as a Filipino citizen.

    Good morning, thanki you for a very informative video. I want to become a dual citizen and retire in the Philippines. However, I lost two important documents- my Phil. passport and naturalization document, you mentioned a citizenship ID that could replace this document. Would my state ID be this citizenship ID? Thank you.

      Can you not apply for a reprint of your naturalization certificate? Do you have an equivalent of the PSA (Phil Statistics Authority, formerly NSO) there? For your lost PH passport, you can make an Affidavit of Loss.

      As a dual citizen, you can stay for as long as you want (or forever) in PH. If you're also a US citizen, then you can enter the US freely as long as your US passport is valid.

    Hello! I had a question regarding who is eligible to become a dual citizen of the Philippines and the US. Can a person(born in the US) become a dual citizen if their parents (born in the Philippines, Naturalized US citizens) recently became dual citizens ?

    • @YourLawyer
      @YourLawyer  Před rokem

      If that person was born at the time when his/her parents were foreigners (by virtue of their naturalization), he/she cannot be considered as a former natural-born Filipino citizen. But if he/she was born when his/her parents were not yet naturalized, then he/she must acquired their Philippine citizenship under the principle of just sanguinis. In that case, he/she is a dual citizen by birth.
      Regardless, if he/she is a minor child at the time when the parents re-acquire their Philippine citizenship, he/she can benefit from the principle of derivative citizenship under RA 9225:
      “Section 4. Derivative Citizenship - The unmarried child, whether legitimate, illegitimate or adopted, below eighteen (18) years of age, of those who re-acquire Philippine citizenship upon effectivity of this Act shall be deemed citizens of the Philippines.”
