    We recently tested out the XVIVE U3 Wireless microphone system that also works with speakers. With its impressive low latency of less than 5ms and a decent range of up to 90ft this is definitely something to consider for event DJs playing medium-sized events. The products worked flawlessly, with one slight design issue we have highlighted in the review.

    They run on 2.4Ghz, thats the major issue. So if you have a party and say 50 people. So potentially 50 mobile phones in the same area all with 2.4Ghz Bluetooth turned on. Meaning no RF bandwith left for these devices. So they will drop out or the sound will break up. For DJ use you have to use Wireless devices with Licensed band kit. DJ Rachel has proved this in many in her videos.

    I agree this is a great product. I've been running karaoke gigs for almost twenty years. One of the things I've always struggled with is what to do about microphones. They need to be wireless. They need to have great response for singing. However, they will get abused dropped, and just mishandled. So, instead of investing in a quality Shure or Sennheiser, I always went with lesser quality and low price point 4-mic system. With dismal response and quality, I was ok with the sell-out for acceptable losses in equipment.
    This Xvive product is a game changer. I bought one and coupled it with my old trusty and rugged SM58. Great sound, with a great durable mic and less worry about catastrophic damage.

    @nicolasheinemusic Před rokem +13

    There are a few let downs on those.
    - Micro USB instead of USB-C
    - Too thick to plug 2 into your player, as you also mentioned
    - reach only 25m, as I need a lot more when playing at som wedding and the reception outside is like 80 meters far away from my spot with walls inbetween. Havent found any solution yet for that.
    - The switch can get toggled by accident inside of your bag and drain the battery, so you arrive at your gig and batteries are zero. That actually happened three times already...

    I use them as well but tend to provide power at both ends since the speaker would require power anyway. With regards to using a XLR cable from the mixer or controller, I would normally get the unit up high on a mic stand or lighting stand for best wireless practice so no need for both units to fit into the back of the controller.

    They can be charged via micro USB it seems, so you could theoretically strap a cheap power bank to each adapter or pair and get a lot of playtime from them. This might actually make sense for some outdoor events where they must reduce the amount of cables or the cable setup time as much as possible.

      I had very loud pops even when I replaced the 3 U3 for mic’s with cables.
      I also got interference on the U3 mic’s which was indicated by their flickering green light.
      Impressive idea when it works but terrible loud pops made this unusable in a quiet professional setting.

    • @alainachkar3560
      @alainachkar3560 Před rokem

      Also, there is one sentence in the manual which is terribly worded so it’s unclear if 2 transmitters should be able to transmit on the same channel, but my tests showed that this is not possible, (except when you alternate turning one on and the other off, which might seem useless at first, but I think the last one that gets turned on takes over the channel - which might be useful in some edge cases). However, multiple receivers do work on the same channel listening to only one transmitter, so this would be great if you wanted multiple speakers on the left channel and multiple speakers on the right channel

    Can anyone help me? I wanna try something different. I have the Mixstream Pro Go (it can run on battery only) so I wanna walk around the bar at my next gig while mixing but I need both speakers to receive music from the transmitter on my controller but it only comes with 1 receiver. Suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance!

    Suppose if I wanted to extend the range further, say, a speaker 180' from my board. If I ran a 100' XLR cable out of the way and then used this to cover the last 80'. Would that add to the 5MS delay? Unaware if anyone has tested in this way. Just curious...

    • @wally7856
      @wally7856 Před rokem +2

      No it will not add any significant delay. 5 ms of delay = 0.005 of a second. Speed of electricity is about C (speed of light). Time for electricity to travel 100' down the xlr is 0.0000001 seconds. So your total time is now is 0.0050001 seconds. The time for electricity to travel a length of wire is insignificant in sound.
      Another way to think of it is that 5ms is the time sound takes to travel 5 feet though air, if you stand 5 feet away from your speaker you are getting a 5ms delay. The time for electricity to travel 100 feet, sound travels 1/100 of an inch.

      @@eugeneweston3891 A bigger question would be what purpose do you want to run another speaker 180' from your board.? If it's isolated from the main speakers (can't hear them from there) you will be fine and delay doesn't matter but if you want to run a delay stack for fill and you can still hear the main speakers from that location there will be a serious delay problem between the 2 sets of speakers. Sound travels slowly, it would take the sound from the main speakers 180 ms to reach 180 feet back. 180' back you will hear that fill speaker first (as it would be closest to you) and then 180 ms later you will hear the main speakers causing massive echo's. It would sound horrible. If you ever heard (outdoors) sound bouncing off a large brick wall 100' away from you and then bouncing back to you you know what that sounds like. Those fill speakers would have to be delayed a total of 180 ms in order to line up with the sound coming from the mains as it would take 180 ms for the sound from the mains to reach 180' back, then you would want the fill speaker to fire.

    • @anchoragedj
      @anchoragedj Před rokem

      Seems like they would as long as you unracked your amps and placed them next to each speaker/s you’re amplifying
      It’s the same thing you’re doing with an active speaker, you’re running the receiver to the amplifier in the active speaker and the transmitter from the mixer/controller
      So yeah, it should be able to be done as SpeakOn cable = XLR = TRS (for the most) and all you’re sending is the line or mic level signal via wifi to the receivers
      I agree with the battery life though, five hours seems short.
      But the silly comments about 2.4GHz bandwidth cutting out or being unreliable is incorrect
      2.4GHz is bulletproof and what you want for reliability and longer range performance
      5GHz is and always has been a bad freak to use if you’re in a building and through doors, walls etc. 2.4 is perfect for this type of use and isn’t going to be goofed up by cell radios as they’re completely different bands.
      So back to passive speakers, it might look goofy but you could mount your PLX II or Crown to the back of a pair of 18’s and use this system to run the audio I/O (powering as you would an active speaker, locally or as close to as possible)
      Am I missing something?

    So basically you need active speakers which are still plugged in the wall and batteries to run the wireless transmitter and then the chance of having interference in your signal so what's the point?? Nobody that regularly gigs would not chance having your set go to shit in the middle of a performance and spend extra money for it? Just buy good cables and worry about performing

    It's all good until you get into a space with lots of radio frequency traffic. I can't tell you how many times I have had to explain to artists why their consumer grade wireless device wasn't working in a busy venue. Bottom line, there is a reason that a pro-level wireless rig costs what it does.

      Could’ve been the other electronics in the system you used
      2.4 is much more robust and travels further - through walls etc while 5GHz is limited by objects in the way etc.
      I don’t see why a 2.4GHz spectrum would be inundated at any type of event, assuming it’s not providing free wifi over the 2.4GHz band. The partygoers will be using cellular radios which don’t conflict with 2.4 at all.
      Sure 5GHz is faster but that’s irrelevant when you’re only sending a line or mic level signal or receiving it. You don’t need speed, you need fast (low) latency and a sturdy reliable connection.
      There’s a million of these now for sale on Amazon etc and most are junk. All run on the 2.4GHz freak, with few offering 5GHz because of what I mentioned.
      You should have your own small LAN setup for the I/O w/a secure connection SSID and password protection, and you should be fine
      I don’t understand why you keep talking about interference at an event - as there’s a lot more to this than just the frequency, for instance using professional Shure wireless systems as an example….
      “Digital wireless doesn't mean that it's WiFi. It refers only to the type of data being transmitted by radio.As an example, Shure's QLX-D and ULX-D systems both use UHF spectrum in the 470-790 MHz band, whereas the GLX-D system uses 2.4 GHz (2,400 MHz) WiFi.”
      The GLX-D is an amazing system that is designed for performances with tens of thousands of people, or more.
      It’s truly a matter of getting what you pay for
      Shure, Sennheiser, and other external DACs built by the third parties are now being built using their proprietary frequency fast switching technology and the 2.4GHz band
      From the ‘Broadcast Bridge’
      “However, using 2.4 GHz gear under ideal conditions with good line-of-sight can achieve over 300 feet in operating distance. With good conditions, a 2.4 GHz wireless microphone system can be a cost-effective, high-quality solution. Many 2.4 GHz systems have proven themselves worthy alternatives to the UHF problems.
      Wireless microphone systems in the 5 GHz frequency range are very new to the market. So far, most of the available 5 GHz systems use the upper part of the range, around 5.8 GHz. Fewer competing networks operate in 5 GHz and therefore microphone systems in this range are less susceptible to interference and crowding.
      One disadvantage to 5 GHz compared with 2.4 GHz is that it’s even more dependent on line-of-sight to operate optimally. Due to the shorter wavelengths, the maximum operating distance between the transmitter and receiver is much less and the ability to deal with physical obstruction is reduced. This makes 5 GHz more suitable for close-proximity interview type situations.”
      Most wireless microphones in the professional industry use UHF but it’s ever evolving and with T-Mobile’s win in the 5GHz range, it’s even more likely you’ll get interference from their 5G towers.
