    Marcus is just incredible. He plays the bass in a way most players would never even think they could approach it much less play it. He's refreshingly melodic as well as being able to do lead runs as well as the best GUITAR players out there much less bass players. His style offers a little something for everyone in every genre. His Miles tribute at the end was absolutely beautiful.

    To all those making negative comments you have a lot to learn about the universal
    language which is music, It is as with all things a matter of your taste however there is no right our wrong or good or bad at this level only what is your taste in what you like to listen to.If your mind is closed your ears will never hear and your eyes will never see, Peace

    The respect for Miles is evident in everything he says, to me that's what makes Marcus such a phenomenal influence in music.

    For people trying to find the studio recording of what he playes at the end; It's called ''Mr Pastorius'' which is included on Marcus' cd called; The Sun Don't Lie.
    Thumbs up so more YT-ers can find it.

    Man......Marcus loved Miles. I think it's because of the language that they spoke.....no one else would understand that language except for them two and only them two. It's said but Marcus is just amazing man. 5 stars

    very well put,that what sets him apart from any other bass player,aside from his all around versatility on the bass Marcus has an uncanny ability to groove in pocket or soloing and he gets better and better with age, so many bass players young and old try to clone his tone and style but clones are never as good the original, bottom line Marcus is definitely a master in the art of the groove

    Why, because Marcus Miller was born, raised and trained in the birthplace of jazz, soul, funk and R&B, from an early age he was surrounded by the undisputed innovators of these styles of music and his career is evidence of this. His music is everywhere, you can buy a Status KingBass for a premium or a Fender Jazz Marcus Miller for a fraction of the price and they're in almost every decent music shop. I've seen guys on TV in indie bands playing FJMM's - Marcus Miller's influence is much wider!

    I played his bass at guitar center. It felt and sounded sooooo good! Best bass I have ever played! If I could have any bass, it would be the Marcus Miller Jazz bass! I liked it even more than the musicman! I also found that I actually kinda like the P-bass. I dont know why, but I always thought that I would hate it.

    Marcus is the greatest. Since the bass isnt amplified, you hear the note in the front of the tap and in the back of the tap, thus the dissonance. This "crap solo" is "Mr Pastorius" by Miles. Marcus recorded it also. He is the only electric bass soloist bandleader that makes me FEEL. He is the only one to really pull it off. Please since you are an expert on great soloing, you post a solo. Marcus is the Stevie wonder of the bass otherwise. He is one of the best EVER, and the greatest in my book.

    if anyone thinks I'm being negative...it is not my intention...what I am really saying is understand the history of playing the instrument not just the contemporary players...I have been a player and a listener since the sixties and it disturbs me that some folks get credit for simply having the talent to recreate (in some manner) that which was already there....jb

  • @moochincrawdad
    @moochincrawdad Před 12 lety

    @73calabrone In England maybe yeah - outside Europe he's pretty much unknown and this reflects on his current touring schedule. He didn't penetrate the US market simply because he and other British artists who tried to beat the Americans at their own game (jamiroquai included) didn't have the sound needed to succeed in that market. The successful English acts in the US were so because they played on their British identity, the Beatles, the Stones even lesser knowns like Corinne Bailey-Rae

    If Mark King and Level 42 stuck to what they were amazing at - writing and performing good tunes with good and sometimes deep, meaningful lyrics they would certainly get my vote but they killed it completely with what I can only describe as AWFUL attempts to ride the pop charts. As for bass playing, King's and Miller's styles are unique and are equally as valid as each other, they both have their followers but for the greater influence Marcus Miller must take the crown - I'll explain why...

  • @somnambu2

    @ RangerMoose7 he's talking about the gig miles davis played at the isle of wight.
    @ yoitscayman word, but unfortunaltley he himself got caught up in playing the same music since 20 or 30 years. i'd wish he'd get the energy to get out of his own clishees and do somethig as real and important as he used to...
