- In this tutorial, I explain how to use the masks in Adobe Lightroom Classic for a more artistic way to create a high-drama Black and White. The masking techniques shown here, allow you to focus your effects for light and colour grading within your image, being selective to increase the overall dodge and burn effect for your image.

Jamie, in my opinion your the best instructor when it comes to explaining Lightroom and its potential. Once again and amazing lesson. Thank you.
Thank you Kath, that is very kind of you to say 😀 you have made my day !!
Finally I've found a channel which explains clearly how to make it done! There's tons of fancy classes out there who doesn't explain half of it, and you're giving us for free. Thanks a lot, Jamie!
You are very welcome 😀
Jamie, love, love your You Tube tutorials. Always leans so much, great teaching skills....Thank you.
thank you Mike, your kind words are very much appreciated 😀
A color photo converted into an exceptional piece of Photographic Art. Your ability to previsualize what needs to happen and know the tools to get that done, is remarkable. Thanks once more for teaching us so much.
thank you for your kind words Marlin 🙂
Only 5.26k subscribers? This guy is fantastic! Thanks jamie for the great tuition. Looking forward to seeing the channel grow.
Thanks Andy, 4.2k of my subscriptions have come in the last 60 days , once I had past the dreaded 1k level, things are going well 😀 and thank you for your support 👍
Fantastic!
Masterful tutorials. Step by step. Easy to follow. Under appreciated.
Thank you for your kind words, and your comment, it is very much appreciated 😀
I stumbled onto your channel just yesterday. Your videos and instruction are simply phenomenal. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
You are very welcome William, glad to have you on board 😀
Very informative, I like how you brought the far background buildings back into the b+w picture as they were kind of lost due to sky and blue sky reflection. Thank you!
Thank you John 😀
I like this technique, a lot. In my experience the histogram is probably your best friend when doing any form of editing so that things do not get too much out of whack/gamut for the given image profile you're working with. What looks good in sRGB may not be correct for the paper you intend to print your image on as the ICC profile (Adobe RGB profile required) are totally different. Thanks for these videos which are always informative and full of good tips.
Many thanks for a meaning full comment regarding colour and histograms usage, all very valid points, best regards 😀
Excellent! Just found your channel yesterday and you are teaching me a lot!
welcome 😀
WOW. Are you kidding me? That was absolutely fantastic! Learning so much. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. Thank you Jamie.
You are welcome :-)

thank you 😀
Love IT !!!!
Heel mooi en leerzaam!!Dankjewel.
Dank je wel voor je vriendelijke woorden en de tijd die je hebt genomen om me een reactie achter te laten, het wordt zeer gewaardeerd.
Thank you so much Jaimie! Your work is really inspiring. Avidly watching your videos I’m learning so many things, and I am also taking different pictures, thinking in advance how they can be improved in post.
Thank you for your kind words 😀 starting to think ahead is the real key to photography, you have to capture the data that you need for the final image, hence always shoot RAW and consider the high and low lights in your exposure !
Hi Jamie.
This is another wonderful B&W video.
I've never worked like that despite the fact that I always shoot B&W.
And I've tried it and I really like it.
I now get even more out of my color photo for B&W.
Thank you for this wise lesson.
So you see, you're not too old to learn.
And the way you teach is very pleasant to listen to, my friend.
I've been photographing for almost 35 years now and I still learn something new every time.
And that's the beauty of photography you never get tired of learning.
Thanks, buddy, I'll be following you for sure.
Antoine (the Netherlands)
As you say you are never too old to learn, and I do believe you can teach an old horse new tricks, I am learning every day. It is great when people give me tips, they add to the knowledge and fun of the hobby 😀
Hello Jamie, I'm just watching your 'How to use Masks artistically in Lightroom' video for a second time. My wife and I were out in Derbyshire yesterday (07 Apr 2023) at one of our favourite locations near Rowsley. There is a two arch stone bridge there, that crosses the River Wye. In the afternoon sunshine there were some great shadows across the bridge from nearby trees, and the arches were glowing with reflections from the river. I remembered your LRc masking technique to selectively specify areas that you wanted to highlight. Your technique is exactly what I'm looking for Jamie for the stone bridge as I want to bring out the water reflections under the arches. Thank you Jamie.
so happy I could be of help, I have a FB page for sharing images called 'Photography International' would love to see your final image here ! :- facebook.com/groups/460479531718802
Fantastic video Jamie. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Keep up the good work.. P.S. Has anyone told you you look like Pete Townsend ?? LOL
thanks for the comment, and yes, I have been told that I look like Pete Townsend a few times 😀
Jamie....so appreciate your step by step approach to make ordinary into extraordinary. I am learning so much watching you !!
You are very welcome William :-)

you are very welcome Jacob 😀

You are very welcome Lance 😀
Great tutorial Jamie thanks for shearing :)
Thank you for this excellent teaching video. I can see I have much to learn about lightroom. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge in such an easy to understand manner.
thank you Charles, for your kind words and comment, it is very much appreciated 😀
Another Great Tutorial *****
Great Video,thank you sir!
Nice
Nice explanation of difference between duplicating the mask and duplicating the radial mask!
thanks Cindy 😀
I am completely captivated with your channel and I have learned more than I could ever imagine. You explained the colors in the histogram arrows as Blue 90% Teal 95% on highlights and Red 90% Yellow 95% shadows. Did I understand this correctly?
Yes indeed George, you did understand it correctly 😀
Oh Man Jamie how many masks did you use i lost count 😂 great image
Your detail is over the top! Can you do an example of "Fine Art" B/W and show how to remove the horizon line?
When you say remove the horizon, do you mean to blend the sky into the landscape ? happy to demonstrate any style :-)
yes exactually
@@BobEffinger I will have a think where I can use this technique 🙂
I don't like the banding in the sky
I think it is due to the compression applied by CZcams, as the original on my machine looks perfect. When I play the video back on a different machine I can see the banding in the sky. This is all I can think it is. but, thank you for letting me know, I will keep an eye on this with other video.
