  • Sophia Smith's second half goal gave the United States Olympic Women’s Soccer Team a win over regional rivals Mexico in a pre-Olympic friendly at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J..
    The Americans carried the play and outshot the visitors, 17-3, but had to wait for the breakthrough until almost 20 minutes elapsed in the second half. Once earned, however, that advantage was never threatened as the USA eased to its third victory in three games under coach Emma Hayes.

    • @jashuasmith9361
      @jashuasmith9361 Před 27 dny

      Horans my favorite player. She dont f up. She anticipates and makes sensible plays and anticipates danger in always being a factor in contributing. She played for Hayes in chelsea during the champions league, If she sucked , then she wouldnt be picked. I don’t ever see her f up to cost the game. Incredibly discipline and organized. She’s in the center. Speeds not needed. I can’t stand a horrible fast player. Football is a lot more than speed. The only way it is a factor is if you’re just incredibly fast and fit , but you have to be able to finish in a accurate pass or a shot. A person a little bit slower than you would always be able to just be fast enough to be effective to disrupt your play, unless your very fast agile and athletic. Salma athleticism is a factor. She is a professional 400 m hurdler. She’d run you to death. She literally gases out everyone around her. First comes having sense, next is skill , then comes speed. The reason aitana is the best player is because she reads the game better than most. She anticipates plays and danger before it happens. I don’t like watching fast idiots on the ball. Unless they’re so fast and so athletic and agile to the point, they are impressive and effective. Killian dont have to be that skilled. Just fast and accurate. One or two touches and he’s infront of the keeper, taking a shot on goal.

    Great game ... HORRIBLE event. Red Bull Stadium seems like a nice facility ... but we were in traffic outside an hour before kickoff and STILL missed the start because of the utter lack of parking; we had to park over a mile away and walk. Then multiple concession stands out of water on a KNOWN heat advisory day, with zero supplemental cooling stations provided. The shockingly empty stands after the half are due to the absolute crush of people still in the concourse trying to find some relief from the heat. If the stadium wants to host events like this, they better damn well prepare for them.

      I don’t know how you missed the start if you were in front of the stadium an hour before the start of game. I got off the exit about 230 and was in my seat at about 3. I had no issue finding parking. It was right in front of the stadium. My wife just had her knee replaced so she was moving like a snail. I never had any issues purchasing beer or water. I purchased water even after the game. I agree the game should have been played at night. Getting in and out of most stadiums are generally a shit show.

      @@mtadams2009 I guess you were lucky - the police closed the bridge towards the stadium and were allowing no cars over. I gather the sole parking lot there was full. We were shunted to a parking lot several blocks away - through barely-moving traffic - and had to walk back (1.4 miles each way per Google Maps as we were at the Seton Hall Law School). As we walked there were plenty of cars going the same way full of fans ... looking for parking that didn't exist. I did find water at one stand, but others at halftime were completely out.

    To see US playing in a US-pro crowd in Harrison New Jersey in contrast to the pro-Mexico crowd in LA has not been more sweeter. Barely winning 1-0 vs Mexico was intense but Sophia Smith had several chances in the game to make it at least 3-0 shows me and the other US fans that USWNT have to capitalize on their scoring and need to work more on putting more bodies on the box. They have depth but for me relying too much on the kids and new players with almost no veterans means not having the leadership and expereince they need on the field, I'm not asking to put 11 32 year old plus players but at least a captain who is hard working and can transition quickly and pass the ball great. I'm not sure what you all think about Lindsey Horan if she deserves to be call up.....
