I'm from Cuba and my head feels like the emoji 🤯 every time I see a Cuban that wants to vote for Trump. I thought they could recognize a Dictator when they see it.
They think he’s going to hurt the right people
Most of the Cubans that came to the US were the ones who had money and privilege before Castro and company came along. So these Cubans and their offspring are very comfortable supporting someone who will help them maintain their privilege. The rest of the country isn't a real concern for them.
A lot of Cubans in the US, and you must know this, came to America after the fall of Batista. Batista was a singularly violent and corrupt dictator. Batista opened Cuba up for the American buisness and gagnsters. He took money from anyone and everyone. For the right price you could do whatever you wanted in Cuba. Some families made a lot of money under this regime but in 1959 the regime was brought down and Batista and most of the people who had profited during his dictatorship left Cuba for safer climes. Most of these people remained loyal to the right wing. This segment of the population has continued to maintain close ties with right wing beliefs. It has for the most part been an outlier in the Hispanic community. 😢
You'd think, but after all, aren't these the same Cubans who still long for the 'good old days' under Fulgencio Batista, the _former_ Dictator and longtime friend of the Mafia?
@@LowenKM I stated something similar a few days ago, but I don't see my post here. So it was held for review or deleted by the youtube algorithmic bots, I guess. The Cubans who came over were predominantly the ones who had more relative wealth and stature than the average Cuban citizen. They're not so much interested in democracy as they are in maintaining comparative financial advantage in the US like they had in Cuba under Batista. Hence, Trump is their man.
Trump must do time for Jan six, otherwise he will get away with it, like his other crimes.

To me, when choosing a President, besides any policy considerations I ask myself "if something bad happens, will this person actually care?" Will it matter to them whether I and my family and my neighbors live or die? Trump doesn't. We saw that during COVID. Biden DOES care about what happens to us, and that's why I'm voting for him.
Biden and Harris both said "I will not take that vaccine of Trump tells me to take it" though.
"Will this person actually care?"
We found the answer to that when COVID-19 hit.
One out of four of the people who died was an American!

Michael, Michael, Michael, I love you man for who you are, for you are one of the few within your party with real common sense, and who has the backbone to call a spade a spade; but I am also sure that you have caught Holy and MAGA hell for speaking the truth, in particular as a Black man.
I approve and applaud you for coming to the right and final decision to vote for Biden, and for all of the reasons you claim and gave… but my friend, you have been and still are on the wrong side of right, having remained a Republican and that you continue to espouse Republican ways, values and policies and their politics.
Michael, what you and those like you, even the remaining remembers of the Lincoln Project team who, despite having moved to the Democrat or Independent Parties, are still Republican at their core; remain on the wrong side of history and what America is really about.
My short point is this, Michael, you and yours have been brainwashed about your party from the very beginning; Stuart Stevens said it best… IT WAS ALL A LIE… because it has always been a lie from the very start. Our nation was destined to be precisely where we are right now politically speaking, at each other throats based on the projection and trajectory of GOP politics and policies; it was baked into the pie from the start. In other words, based on my analysis of the party since January 2020, the ultimate destiny of our nation would have placed us here within the next generation. Trump merely accelerated the timeline because of his bull-in-the-China shop methods and narcissistic personality, along with him being a stone-cold sociopath! But make no mistake about it, based on and because of the trajectory of Republican policies and politics, we would have wound up here sooner or later.
So, my friend, I STRONGLY suggest you re-read Mr. Stevens’ book to understand that your party has never had our country’s interest truly at heart, it has always been about perpetuating greed, power, bigotry, racism, xenophobia by any means necessary, and the above have always been their tools. Only those of us who NEVER drank the Kool-Aid can correctly, accurately, and dispassionately see the GOP for what it really is and has been to our nation… and you, in particular, were NEVER meant to be part of THEIR team! Although you have eventually come to the right conclusion about Biden and the Democrats, like all of your fellow Republicans, arrived at the same conclusion for the wrong reasons. But we do agree on one basic premise, and that is, for our nation to survive beyond 2024, this iteration of your Republican Party MUST be destroyed and annihilated.

Leigh, I too agree that the US needs universal health care. Talk to all the other countries that have it. See what works what isn't and get it together. We spend so much on insurance companies on paying CEOs. All to tell people, no you can't have that treatment.

Great episode and another great conversation. Just wanted to point out that the closing was backwards. Michael Steele was saying to focus on the R before the name, not the one behind it. Easier still, just forget about which R is which and simply vote to protect Rights even if it means not voting Republican. Politicians come and go, but rights are a hell of a lot harder to get back once they're gone.
I certainly hope that Biden will be able to deliver on his commitment to enshrine Roe-v-Wade into codified law. Given who is on the Supreme Court I'm unsure how that could be done. The other concern that I have is with the concentrated attack by the right wing on the funding of Planned Parenthood Services and the forced closing of clinics that provided healthcare to women especially women in lower economic circonstances. The struggle is not only in the courts it is also on the ground defending these very vital services focused on the overall health of women. Planned Parenthood was central in assuring that women from all walks of life had access to contraception, treatment for STDs, mammograms, as well as pre and postnatal care for babies. The right wing who focused their energy on removing the right to choice from women also destroyed a lot of programs that helped mothers and children.

When it comes to abortion, there are 3 camps, NOT 2. Its not just pro-life and pro-choice. It is 'I am pro life, therefore I will never choose abortion', then there is 'I am pro life and YOU should be too', and then there is 'I am pro-choice'.
That is how someone can be pro-life but still support other peoples rights. Just because YOU are pro-life, doesnt mean EVERYBODY else should do as you do.

It means those that are in favor of them have access. Those that don't want an abortion don't have to get one. You're third group isn't pro-life. They're pro-choice, but anti-abortion.

here's how I describe losing democracy and rule of constitution to people. Its like hiring somebody to work on your car or house with no estimate of cost or contract, no estimate of how long its going to take, or what condition its really going to be in when you get it back . and it gets worse. when the original guy(trump) is gone, somebody else will take over and get the same deal and you will have no say in it. democracy and constitution are like a work contract between the governed and the government.

Good way to put it. Maybe people will wake up when they hear losing democracy compared to something tangible in their lives. Most people are unable to imagine an authoritarian future here, having always assumed it only happens in other countries. I had ObamaCare for awhile and I didn’t see the difference between what I had with the companies I worked for and Obamacare.
