My tips for collecting in 2024 and beyond:
-Buy damaged label games
-Buy bulk lots of games and sell the duplicates
-Buy loose carts and print your own box art + use custom game cases
-Don’t do it if it isn’t fun!
We gotta make some vids man! Genie power
Cool collection man wow!
Thanks!
For me the glory days where in the early to mid 2000s then you could pick up NES games for about 25 cents at yard sales. ATARI 2600 by the box full for under a dollar and sometimes free just because people where moving and needed space. I feel that many prices are a rip off today. I have to consider this: if it costs $299.00 for the Xbox series S why should I pay that for a game in a sealed case I'm never gonna play? Why pay $70.00 for paper Mario when I no longer have a GameCube when I could get the newest Madden instead for that price on the PS5 which I actually own? I have an NES from my childhood it sits in a closet and I rarely ever play it. I'm glad I got it for collectors sake and childhood nostalgia and all but I can't justify buying too many NES games as they will just lay around. There are plenty of retro collections around for $20-29.00 where I can play many retro games for much less. ATARI Flashback is a perfect example: buying all 150 games would be about a few thousand dollars I could play them all for 40 tops. And I only need 1 disc or one digital download as opposed to 120 carts in my room and 30 arcades. And I have a small apartment so space is a concern too.
Would you believe I lost my entire retro collection due to a hurricane hitting my parents place when I moved out? Oh man it still haunts me. All your concerns and points are completely valid. Appreciate the well thought out comment.
@@COIFISHGAMING I'm sorry to hear that man. When I moved I lost a lot of my comic book collection it hurts
@@mattmc5069 That sucks Matt, It really wasn't until COVID that I started getting stuff back. Talk about a horrible and costly time to do so heh. I am very happy now though got almost everything on my list.
Awesome 🥰💓
I have that same Toshiba TV. I also have a larger 20 inch one. Early 2000's Toshiba's are the bomb.
They are absolute gems, I love this TV
The prices are crazy man , get what you can while you can , as cheap as you can.
It's not the end, but we can see it from here......
The problem is a lot of people didn’t get into collecting until they realized games were valuable. So basically the last 4-6 years an influx of new “collectors” and resellers emerged driving up prices.
Having collected for roughly 15 years, I am happy to say most of the games people complain about today in terms of pricing, I already own. I have over 4,000 games (none of which are modern) and over 150 different variations of consoles and handhelds and I still don’t collect for value. Sure my collection is worth an astronomical number, but that’s just a side effect and bonus of being a collector for so long.
Good for you man, I love to hear this kinda stuff. Alot of the points I noted really drove up the prices for sure. The glory days may be over for deals however there is alot of lust for nostalgia.
Wow your collection is awesome 👌🏿 thank God for stuff like the fpga mister and everdrives I agree with you here
Thanks man! Everdrives and FPGAs are the future for preservation for sure!
@COIFISHGAMING yes sir like you said I support everyone decisions it's definitely not easy to collect anymore I also stopped myself
@@biggworm2002 Its hard man.. It's a money racket now
Enjoyed that, loving your collection
@@COIFISHGAMING exactly 💯 👏🏿
prices leveled off like 4 years ago.
I would say we saw a peak, however over time it will inflate with supply and demand as more thing break and discs rot.
When do u go live again?
Friday
It may be time to sell my NIB John Madden Championship in for Sega Genesis.
Get on that haha
We're all in this together - keep yer stick on the ice!
Nice haha, heard that alot growing up as a Canadian
Woahhhh
Hey bud!
@@COIFISHGAMING wassup!
Emulation is the way to go!
Cannot beat the price!
I so want to dabble into the wonderful world of emulation, but what's stopping me is the iffy area of downloading roms as according to laws in most places, it's illegal. 😕
@@FeArBaRbWiReRaGe Not illegal to dump your own ROMs. We don't talk about where ROMs come from it's like Fight Club.
CZcamsrs destroyed it, so I decided to join them a year and some change ago. Can’t beat them, make it harder for everyone. They took my personal secret, even though it wasn’t secret(I felt like it was), so I’m doing everything I can to get these resellers to not have anything they can get game wise to resell. All goes to digital & all collectors turn into museums. I depended on goodwill not for reselling but for collecting & toys for my young kids. Now it’s on!
Now you are playing with power! Would love to hear how the heck you are pulling this off.
@@COIFISHGAMING Just grabbing what I can and slowly exposing values of games on my channel. Another thing is that nobody is really looking at current gen. You can still find a Mario 64 at a yard sale, but 30 years from now, will you be able to find a final fantasy 7 intergrade on ps5?
@@COIFISHGAMING love the video man! Good stuff
@@E-Z_Gamerz 1000 videos lots of great retro stuff
I just buy Everdrives for my systems.
Absolutely one of the best routes
Even Xbox 360 games are now pricey, it’s just insane now. No more are the days of cheap retro games I guess.
Who cares just emulate or mod your original hardware to play them the reason the prices are The way they are is because idiots are buying them
The developers of these games aren't getting any of the money it's just going into a reseller or collectors pocket
Yeah I basically have what I have now
Not gonna lie retroarch has been the backbone of my gaming life for awhile now. I fired up Nesticle and ZSNES last week for a laugh lol.
The prices have gotten this way because idiots are buying them... The majority of these systems can be easily emulated nowadays or if you're an original hardware kind of guy there's methods to mod your system with an optical drive emulator or you can buy flash cartridges to play the games on original hardware digitally there's no reason to buy the games nowadays for the current prices if you just want to play the titles
Emulation, flash carts or the Mister are ideal in today's world.
Lol, shut up. Retro collecting isn't over, it isn't ruined. It has been on the uprise, will only grow even more once modern consoles stop producing physical media.
We found the reseller ladies and gentlemen lol.
@@COIFISHGAMING I live in New Zealand, there are a little more than 5,000,000 people who live here, of that number 79% own a console. The average ownership of a console is the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One S, Xbox Series X. The percentage of people who actually collect video games is sitting at 12%. The average monthly wage here is around $2,260 USD equivalent, average rent price is half of that per month, with all the other outgoing costs it shouldn't come as any surprise that people don't have the money to spend on video games, especially as everything from gas to food costs are borderline extortionate prices. That being said, do you really think there is any market for me to be a reseller in the first place? It's not a viable source for income in this country. I watch everyone out there, people are still buying retro, I can list off 30 CZcams channels whose primary focus is only retro games, all their followers are like minded. Don't be so insular, just because you got called out.
@@CalebSmith-do9jd Did you actually watch my video? The question was simply "Is Retro Collecting Ruined?" the reality is it is not as accessible as it once was. I personally have a full time job and I can in fact save and buy the things I want. However In Canada life is extremely expensive, same stuggles as everywhere else. As for being Insular, have you ever met somebody in real life and the first words you state are "lol, shut up". I love people man, no joke and I don't have any chips in this game. My audience chose the topic and I presented it. Have a good day.
