  • Yep... like all cyclist I finally stumbled my way into the "too good to be true" deals of AliExpress... Picking up a Cane Creek EeSilk Suspension Stem for anything less than $200 is a deal and I got this one shipped to me for $50! I'm hoping a suspension stem will help with the numbness in my hands on long rides and this deal was just too good to pass up!

    So weird the way mainstream bikes have evolved, with super stiff tapered headtubes and 31.8mm bars, to then have to put a flexible stem on there to reverse all that engineered-in stiffness. I wonder how much the flex from an old school 1" stem and 26mm bar contributes to rider comfort. That stem looks good on your bike in any case, having one polished focal point on a black build is really cool.

      interesting take away! I have noticed when riding older steel frames how much smoother they feel... May have to build one up to compare. Thanks for watching!

      @@evelkestriegel A steel frame makes a significant difference compared to aluminum (unless it's shitty hi-tensile or carbon steel, which is somehow even harsher than aluminum), but my hands still get numb riding around the pock-marked roads of the local hoods on a Reynolds touring frame, thick cork handlebar tape, gel-padded gloves, etc. There's still a need for suspension stems and seatposts even when you do away with all the problems of modern road bike design.

      @@Pellagrah obviously this is just internet guessing but maybe you just have a fit issue or something, i've definitely had the same problem on my flexy steel audax bike. Changing the bars and stem fixed the problem and now it's very comfy.

    Pros closet just had the EEsilk seat posts on sale for $50 (alloy) and $80 (carbon) and I went ahead and bought both! I’d be willing to bet that stem is legit just seeing how cheap that stuff has been going for from US distributors, the factories they get it made from in Taiwan probably just have TONS of overstock like the rest of the world these days.

    So I bought the same stem off aliexpress and this thing is SO squishy. Honestly doesn't seem to be manufactured that poorly but the lockout switch doesn't do anything on mine and every elastomer is the same density no matter what marking it has. It is crazy soft. I will be buying some official CC elastomers just or giggles but yeah, it looks the part but doesn't function like the real thing whatsoever.

    Update us after a few months of use. A friend got the same clone EeSilk stem from AliExpress and the "chrome finish" started delaminating after a few months.

    I got a “nuke proof” one the other day. Looks great. One hole, hell I don’t even know what’s up with it. It’s on an angle and something causes the thread to bind. Anyway paid for one from Anvl instead.
    Ali is a pretty mixed bag. I have a couple of sets of pedals that have been great. Something JT-01. Would buy again but a couple of years now and just usual wear.

      @@evelkestriegel I got some Deity Black Kats for $$$ and the Ali ones are holding up better, seals haven't perished. I did throw a bit of my own grease in them when they arrived due to trust issues but they probably would have been fine.

    Just dissasembled mine and I'm sure its just a ver well made clone 😢. The front plate threads do not match what I've seen in pictures. The axle is two piece, the real one is one piece, bushings are black on mine and white in the original, just by taking out the axle I could insert back with my fingers so... It may get loose while riding? Still I bought the extra firm elastomer from cane creek and will try the stem for a while

    Original? Unlikely. Pretty cool though. Suspension stems been around since the Girvin Flexstem in the early 90's (no doubt there were others before it too.)

    The Chinese bike market is way more advanced than we want to believe. Maybe the USA brand copied it from the overseas company. The only major innovation we've done in the bike industry lately is branding and marketing. Only to fool the riders here in North America.

    • @evelkestriegel
      @evelkestriegel  Před 4 měsíci

      There is for sure certain parts that are marked up and rebranded for the US and Western Markets. I've always been of the understanding that Cane Creek in particular manufactures all their parts in North Carolina, USA

    Weird that this popped up on my feed because I almost bought one of these stems a while back and it’s still sitting in my hopping cart. I have no doubt it’s a knock off but if it’s good build quality I may have to pull the trigger myself.

    • @evelkestriegel
      @evelkestriegel  Před 4 měsíci

      The build quality is certainly top notch! Not sure if the rubber dampeners offer any difference but I may order the real ones from Can Creek and see if they fit.

    I got sent a PRO-FLEX Animal full suspension bike back in the 90s to demo..... it had a Girvin Elastomer Sus fork and then I put a Girvin Flex-Stem on it for more travel.... it was totally retarded..... even though the whole front end didn't have that much travel by today's standards.... when the fork moved up 2.5 inches, your handlebar dropped like 2 inches.... the steering was so fucked up..... hahaha!!
