People really expect it to be an adult movie when it’s based on a childish game. I feel like some of the people in this reply section read my comment wrong.Just to clarify I don’t fully know what the expectations were, I just know some people had high expectations for a movie made by Illumination.
Don’t over exaggerate man! Hollywood don’t always cast Chris Pratt as everybody for everything. A lot of people hate Pratt just for being cast as Mario, but he was pretty decent in this movie NGL. It’s not his fault Hollywood makes these decisions to cast celebs to be animated characters instead of actual voice actors.
Honestly, the movie went so fast, and there were no breaks. Mario went through a pipe and met toad, and immediately went to peaches castle, and then immediately went training.

The actual reason they replaced the voice of Mario for the movie is because Mario doesn’t really talk that much, his voice works in the game because even though it’s a very exaggerated voice, you only hear it occasionally. Watching a full 90 minute movie with that exaggerated voice could any man go insane. I’m just giving a reason. They still wanted to honor Charles Martinet, so they gave him a cameo.
Also the fact that cris sounds a lot like the average big U.S citizen. Mario sounds like a real person of new york, brooklyn etc. And as we see in the movie he starts getting a little more like games mario. Maybe if there is a sequel we will get a little goofier versionof his voice with more "WAHOOO!" Yknow?

My only problem with Peach was that she felt too much like Daisy, which makes me worried we won't get her in a sequel film. If I hated the movie I wouldn't care about Peach basically being Daisy, but I loved the movie and would love to see a trilogy, really hope they make Daisy over the top to balance them out.

I think what made the final battle so good. Was Mario wasn’t rescuing Peach, he cared about his brother but he still “saves Peach” since Bowser technically does kidnap her like in the games but they didn’t reduce Peach to a “damsel in distress” she surrendered to protect the toads

Charles pulled off a full sentence with the Mario voice but I think because he is older and stuff I don't think he can hold the voice for the entirety of the movie.
I also thought Peach was the best character, or at least up there with Donkey Kong and Jack Black's Bowser. I was pleasantly surprised by Peach. People were making it sound like she would be the only competent character and she would constantly dunk on Mario or something, but the movie doesn't do that. It just portrays her as a mix of Princess Peach and playable character Peach. She can do anything Mario can do and probably better, since she lived in the Mushroom Kingdom all her life, but she still recognizes when something is out of her league and tries to go about things the smart way. We also got to see exactly why she's always getting kidnapped, and I had a feeling even before watching the movies that this is probably why: She can handle herself, but there's nothing she can do except negotiate whenever King Koopa marches up with his whole army and threatens destruction.
