To all the people saying they should have used a MotoGP bike. The only difference it would have made would have been the F1 car winning by a slightly smaller margin. Here's why:
Silverstone 2016 - British F1 GP and British MotoGP - exactly the same circuit layout...
    MotoGP Lap Record - 2' 01.941" (or 121.941 seconds) x 3 laps = 365.823 seconds.
    Fastest Ever MotoGP Lap - 2' 00.234" (or 120.234 seconds) x 3 laps = 360.702 seconds.
    Fastest 2016 Lap (Marquez in FP3) - 2' 00.994" (or 120.994 seconds) x 3 laps = 362.982 seconds.
    F1 Qualifying Pole - 1' 29.243" (or 89.243 seconds) x 4 laps = 356.972 seconds.
*The MotoGP fastest time was from Free Practice as Qualifying was wet.* The figures are taken from the official MotoGP and Formula 1 websites.
So by the above figures if Lewis Hamilton did 4 pole laps in a row and Marc Marquez did 3 lap records in a row, the F1 car would still overtake the bike and win the challenge by 3.73 seconds; or if the bike only repeated the 2016 best lap 3 times in a row the F1 would win by 6.01 seconds.
Yes an F1 car can do 4 laps of Silverstone faster than a MotoGP bike can do 3 laps!
Oh and on the subject of top speeds, the highest MotoGP top speed at Silverstone this year was 324.9 kph / 201.88 mph. The highest top speed in the F1 race was 334.2 kph / 207.66 mph.
The highest top speed in F1 so far this season was at the European GP at Baku where the fastest was Valteri Bottas (Williams) with 378 kph / 234.87 mph.
Monza also produced high speeds as usual with several cars getting close to 360 kph / 224 mph!

I watch both Races on a regular basis. I have been watching for the past 10 years and know both technical regulations, weather conditions, tires, wind speed, track temperature and other elements. On the track, nothing beats an F1 car, not even a MotoGP bike with 260Hp. I have watched both races live. I like the speed of a MotoGP bike in the straight. But the F1 car is just crazy fast under braking and cornering. Lap times at silver stone 2017 F1.
    Silverstone Circuit
    "Home of British Motor Racing"
    Length 5.891 km (3.661 mi)

    Lat time for MotoGP
POS RIDER TEAM BIKE TIME GAP
1 Marc Marquez Honda Honda 1m59.941s

Do not know why people are complaining that they used a production oriented bike. Even with a MotoGP bike, the fastest time is still 30 seconds slower than the F1 car. The sheer grip added from downforce means entry, mid, and exit speeds in corners is much higher. Braking and acceleration can be much more aggressive because of no fear of flipping. I love bikes, and for the money, not much can beat them, but against F1, nothing really stands a chance on a racetrack, other than another F1 car, and maybe Indy setup with high downforce.

wolverhampton biker It easily goes with all the rest of the bickering back and forth too. Can easily say throw the GP or TT on a Finnish or Sweden rally with a Group B or Group A car. Oh the drag strip with a top bike? pro mod, pro stock, alcohol classes will match it easy, funny and top fuel destroy it. In the end, with normal prices not a free car, the bike will be faster than a car dollar for dollar. But until much stickier tires, more lean angle, and somehow a dynamic downforce system that can be used in straights and turns are added to a bike, good luck.

But is like comparing David and Goliath, what the 1000cc two wheel bike manages is phenomenal in comparison and is no where near the expense and cost of an F1 car. Also takes a braver man to ride the bike at these speeds as not protected by a big sissy cage. Top speed difference is just 10mph, is the corners car beats bike, 4 very large wide wheels, 4 sets of brakes with the bike having half this. Under these circumstances the bike is simply fecking awesome!!

  • @MrSteeJans
    @MrSteeJans Před 4 lety +1

Great video! I enjoyed the attitudes of the competitors. It was entertaining and in good fun.
The comparison is simply based on three major factors:
    1) power to weight ratio - this is why the bike can take off from the starting line faster, but that's the only time that makes a difference
    2) two tires braking power versus four: double the coefficient of friction. This was clearly demonstrated in the final pass.
    3) most significantly - the centrifugal force in the turns: the relativity of the mass of the human against the centre of mass of the vehicle.
On the bike the mass of the human is both a significantly higher % of the total mass, and that mass is also outside the centre of gravity of the vehicle - hence the need for the human to move his mass to counter the centrifugal force in the corners. If the bike could theoretically lay right down on it's side then the bike could go through the turns just as fast. The mass of the driver of the car is located very close to the centre of gravity of the car, which alone makes for the most significant reason why the car does not roll over. The added two wheels and down draft from the fins are also significant factors, but to a lesser extent. You could take the fins right off the car, and it would still soundly defeat the bike. It might not be by as much margin, but the bike still stands no chance because of the physics of the centrifugal force and two wheels versus four being able to counteract that force.

The car would still win of course as there is no way the bike can put the power down in the corners compared to the savage corner speed of the f1 car but a much better comparison with a same version in the bike world to the car..??

+Francis def Why don't you put a road bike, with their normal racing tyres into the swedish rally championship round. That's pretty much the same comparison

Lol. The rally cars are almost as sketchy as the bikes. Can't remember the dude's name, but the guy who runs an STi every year has had some massive moments on the TT course

Who of us can truly say they’ve had the privilage of racing against a world championship winning F1 car in anger on a super bike? Very very few indeed. Awesome moment in time captured gentlemen👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻

Two gentlemen of racing right here. If there's a sweeter sound than an F1 or a superbike, I've never heard it.

It's funny, this f1 driver acts like he's the king while he pilots a vehicle with full protection and safety wrapped around him yet Guy will fly 175 miles an hour thru narrow city streets with curbs, people, trees, buildings, etc. right up the the side of the road with no margin for error.. yeah, I go with Guy for the king..(thats not to say that f1 cars aren't the baddest and fastest fkn land vehicles..)

KMurdock1974 not much safety in an F1 car look at all the F1 deaths and them look at GP deaths even recently with the new cars like Bianchi, and I'm only talking about track racing on a bike so before you come back with a isle of Mann comment I know that's some crazy ass shit and anyone that races that race either has a deathwish or is just plain insane like Guy lol.

      @callumpenman5992 Před 6 lety +6

KMurdock1974 you’re so fucking deluded it’s unreal, do you know why the cars have so much safety? Because going back 40 years drivers were dying every week, they’re experiencing 5gs which require more training than an astronaut and almost the same as a fighter pilot to experience without passing out and his car can do 100-150mph around an almost right angle bend, f1 is the pinnacle of a racing drivers career, every sport gets compared to it no matter whether people think it’s shit or not, not saying it takes more bravery than the Isle of Man but you’re acting as if it’s child’s play

What a bunch of fatso car drivers here pretending they are "experts on motorcycle racing", such stupid moronic hollow statements, the stuff little children shout at one another in the infants playground.

most of the f1 drivers are so arrogant! just watch the iom tt interviews, just normal blokes riding a highly dangerous race at a fraction of what f1 drivers earn.f1 car racing is strictly for girlies!
