Even as a kid, sort of got the impression that Bowie had a rare humility about him & his obvious fame. Seems like he was a very sharing musician. As a musician myself, that's the best thing in the world, playing with & sharing music with others instead of fighting against them for the spotlight. Bowie was one of a kind.

Buru Soila A couple of years later (1983, I believe), I saw Ade live @ Toad's Place in New Haven (same year Fripp did a combination seminar/Frippertronics show there). I remember hearing "Big Electric Cat", "The Lone Rhino", "Adidas In Heat", a Beatles cover, & some Crimson tune(s) Adrian wrote; "Heartbeat" was definitely one of them. Great show. He also played a show there with The Bears (guys he was in a previous band with, I think), as well as with Crimson on the "Discipline" & "Beat" promotional tours. Those KC shows were mind blowing; two shows in one night the first time (3/3/82) from about 15 feet away, with another show the following night.

Great version. I've been a Belew fan for a long, long time - back to when he played with Zappa. I got to spend quite a bit of time with him in London in the early-2000s when King Crimson were signed to the label I worked for. I was their 'label guy'. What a thrill for me and I'm happy to report he was a good-humoured gent.
Fripp (with whom I've also been obsessed since the 70s) turned up to the hotel suite where we were doing interviews and was hilarious and weird in equal measure. What a day!

Bowie always had such great musicians on his albums...Bobby Fripp plays on three that I know of...That says a lot about the respect he had in the industry...Bowie was WAY ahead of his time...He's one of the artist like Mozart et al. whose music will basically live forever and be analyzed by many generations to come.

Just that bit at the beginning .. Adrian Belew's wailing away on the guitar, the bass slowly comes in, and all Bowie can do is stand there, side stage, looking at the band and thinking to himself, "What a kick-ass band I have." Yes sir, you sure do. Thanks to RabbitEars from RP for the link. :)

I met Adrian Belew after a show at a Chicago club called Martyrs about 4-5 years ago. Super-nice guy, and a total gentleman. Had no issues posing for selfies, or answering random questions about his music or equipment. He's a real stand-up dude, and a fine human being overall. That, combined with his massive skills, may be why he got so many great gigs. Bless you, brother. Much respect.
