I wish you would have gotten it during chapter 2 or 3, but since pretty much all the shotguns would have been obtainable at that rate since you could find the pump during Javier's robbery mission, and the semi-auto in the grandma's shack, it just wouldn't make sense. I do think though they should have replaced the semi-auto shotgun with the lever action shotgun in grandma's house.
The Repeating Shotgun has the highest ammo capacity and it's damage is higher than the Semi Auto but lower than the Pump, Also a slightly faster fire rate than the Pump but lower than the Semi Auto. IMO it's the most balanced shotgun
Actually person named captain Balrick looked the in game damage numbers and found that the semi does 14.52 per pellet, pump and lever does 15.07 per pellet, double barrel does 18.8 per pellet, lemat 18.84 per pellet, and saws off 18.9 per pellet, with 10 pellets in every shotgun shell
Another fun fact the Evan repeater does 53.25 damage per shot and the Lancaster does 55.35 damage per shot with the litchfield only doing 58.55 per shot, and at 60 in game steps or more the Evan’s does the most damage out of all the repeaters.

It honestly doesn’t make sense to me that some of the guns were released only in chapter 6. Like theoretically, you should get the repeating shotgun before the pump shotgun or automatic shotgun as it’s an older weapon. Of course I have the same gripes about getting the Lancaster repeater before the Litchfield repeater. If they were dead set on locking the ability to purchase certain weapons directly from the gun shop until certain chapters of the game, the least they could’ve done is had every single gun available from the get-go by letting you find them naturally through your open world exploring. Without that being the case, lots of times you’ve already developed a favorite gun by the end of the second or third chapter because you can get almost everything from the word go, and what little time you have with the few guns that are only unlocked in chapter 6 makes them kind of forgettable.
Idk how many weapons you can find early by exploring, but you can get the automatic shotgun ok chapter 2 from an old lady on a cabin, just never come back to said cabin or you'll get a surprise 😂
My favourite is still going to be the Lever-action/"Repeating Shotgun". I hate to admit that the Pump-action is likely the best statistically speaking (to say nothing of the fact that you can also get it pretty much right away), but I'm a lever-action man at heart. The pump is likely the "strongest", but you can't flip-cock a pump action and flip-cocking is what makes a cowboy a cowman.
Sawed off is better than the double barrel, simply because its a sidearm, the double barrel is far worse than the repeating, pump and semi auto, while the same is true for the sawed off, it is a sidearm which is a huge upside IMO.
His listing is all wack. The repeating shotgun is great due to its incresed capacity and tight spread, while the sawn off is extremely useful as a sidearm, which was wayyyyy overlooked.

@yesseru I have tested this EXTENSIVELY, trust me when I say the repeating shotgun is WAY more accurate. It does less damage per pellet but when you're accurate with your shots that damage doesn't make a difference. What does make a difference is the stupidly long barrel the Repeating shotgun gets, plus slugs of any type, you'll be a menace. Hip firing the repeating shotgun is also faster for what it's worth

The repeating shotgun is the best shotgun in the game. It has the fastest fire rate especially when fired from the hip, it has the most ammo (6 compared to 5 from the Pump and Semi-auto) and the longest range, the only thing it doesn't have is the damage numbers, but that damage doesn't matter though when you realize that it's damage per pellet and not overall damage for the shot. Repeating shotgun, best shotgun without any shadow of a doubt. If more people used it I know that the general conciseness would be "I only use this gun" Plus if you're into the online at all, it's a lot of fun when people think they're about to have an easy kill on you only to have their head get ripped off over and over again because while you're reloading I still have one more shot in my shotgun

Me personally for pvp I’ve learnt that the lever action and the pump are the best the pump is more fit for slugs and is very accurate with them and is more accurate than the lever action but the lever action is really great for buckshot or incendiary buckshot due to its tight but sorta lose spread and somewhat quick speed when dumping
Sawed off is honestly underrated. It is better than DB for some reason, and considering the fact this game REALLY likes to remove your longarm weapons when you dismount your horse, then this gun has to be atleast 2nd place.
I tried the semi auto and it was by far the worst shotgun in the game. It has less range than the sawed off and the lowest damage. The repeater is probably the best imo but you get it so late into the game that it barely matters at that point
In my experience, playing no-hud, no-crosshair, no aim-assist, and using the first-person aim-down-sights, the best gun in the game, by far, is the semi-auto shotgun. Sure its range and damage is lower than the pump and the lever action, but being able to dump all 5 rounds in the general direction of an enemy avoids the cant-really-aim issue that makes the bolt action and repeaters incredibly difficult
Sawed off is my favorite, she (yeah, is a she) save me from a lot of situations, mostly because I'm trying a no dead eye challenge, especially against wolfs and pumas. So I'm not gonna let you speak bad to my little princess>:(
The lever action shotgun not only has more rounds than the pump and semi auto shotgun. The pump and semi hold 5 the lever action holds six. I also believe the lever action is more accurate if only slightly than the other two. Especially when using slugs through it.
In rdo the sawn offs are actually pretty goated, with damage builds you can consistently decimate players before they even know what hit them, of course range is still an issue though.
Dual sawed-offs have the best close range performance of all shotguns, and that's important because that's the range one actually uses a shotgun in this game. The people who argue "but bad range!!!!1!11!!1" have probably never played PVP in this game, especially at a higher level. Once you get up there in terms of skill and overall level, you realize pretty much anything outperforms a shotgun at mid to long range and your loadout absolutely needs something for mid range besides a shotgun to stay competitive. Common go-tos were dual navies, Mausers, or even sometimes Lemats, and if not that then typically a bow, Lancaster, Evan's, or bolt-action. The especially skilled would only rock a Carcano for mid to long, and those were the ones you had to watch out for. If you doubt what I'm saying, I dare you to load into a Showdown and try to use a shotgun at mid range. You'll be headshotted before you even get the thing raised.
Fun fact! If go into dead eye, shoot only one round and then go back in and out of deadeye you can turn the double barrel shotgun into a semi auto shotgun with an unlimited magazine since going into deadeye reloads your gun automatically
They all have a place as they are a tool no different than in real life. Obviously with buck and birdshot this is for closer range but a shotgun with a longer barrel and slugs can reach out a bit further. The sawed off double barrels while having two are just nasty for up close work. The semi, pump and repeater for well for short-medium range stuff especially with the slugs but any of them with the fire rounds or exploding rounds are just devastating. My favorites is either the semi or the pump
I once completed an entire playthrough around the idea of Arthur being a wilderness explorer/survivalist with dual sawed-off shotguns and a raccoon hat. Honestly one of my favorite playthroughs xD
Dual sawed offs also work for a pirate Arthur lol (Captain Morgan!). You can get the tricorne hat on the island across from the Clemens Cove camp, and a machete from the fence as a sword. I think there is a broken pirate sword west of St Denis.
Gotta disagree on the double barrel beating the sawed off, using one of your main slots for the double barreled is a travesty, but a little boom boom in your pocket is 10/10
I never used the sawed off shotgun. It’s just not worth it to replace your revolver for it and once you get two holsters it’s better to dual wield revolvers.
I don’t know why, but in RDO I’ve had better experience with the Repeating Shotgun than the pump-action. I really love the PA but it just never hit with me in Online
I think that instead of locking weapons, they should’ve kept better weapons in eastern towns like Saint Denis and annesburg. What I was thinking was the towns have heavier security in those chapters, but if you can get past the law you can buy whatever you can afford.
If you got the repeating shot gun earlier in the game it would be more memorable. For me, the pump action shot gun is always my go to because you can get it as soon as you start chapter 2 and will have it for the rest of the game

Sawed off is my favorite, she (yeah, is a she) save me from a lot of situations, mostly because I'm trying a no dead eye challenge, especially against wolfs and pumas.

The lever action shotgun not only has more rounds than the pump and semi auto shotgun. The pump and semi hold 5 the lever action holds six. I also believe the lever action is more accurate if only slightly than the other two. Especially when using slugs through it.
In rdo the sawn offs are actually pretty goated, with damage builds you can consistently decimate players before they even know what hit them, of course range is still an issue though.

Dual sawed-offs have the best close range performance of all shotguns, and that's important because that's the range one actually uses a shotgun in this game.
The people who argue "but bad range!!!!1!11!!1" have probably never played PVP in this game, especially at a higher level. Once you get up there in terms of skill and overall level, you realize pretty much anything outperforms a shotgun at mid to long range and your loadout absolutely needs something for mid range besides a shotgun to stay competitive.
Common go-tos were dual navies, Mausers, or even sometimes Lemats, and if not that then typically a bow, Lancaster, Evan's, or bolt-action. The especially skilled would only rock a Carcano for mid to long, and those were the ones you had to watch out for.
If you doubt what I'm saying, I dare you to load into a Showdown and try to use a shotgun at mid range. You'll be headshotted before you even get the thing raised.
Fun fact! If go into dead eye, shoot only one round and then go back in and out of deadeye you can turn the double barrel shotgun into a semi auto shotgun with an unlimited magazine since going into deadeye reloads your gun automatically

They all have a place as they are a tool no different than in real life. Obviously with buck and birdshot this is for closer range but a shotgun with a longer barrel and slugs can reach out a bit further. The sawed off double barrels while having two are just nasty for up close work. The semi, pump and repeater for well for short-medium range stuff especially with the slugs but any of them with the fire rounds or exploding rounds are just devastating. My favorites is either the semi or the pump

I always go with the semi auto with slugs. It has less ammo capacity but do quick work of cleaning a place, one shot one kill everytime

I once completed an entire playthrough around the idea of Arthur being a wilderness explorer/survivalist with dual sawed-off shotguns and a raccoon hat. Honestly one of my favorite playthroughs xD

Dual sawed offs also work for a pirate Arthur lol (Captain Morgan!). You can get the tricorne hat on the island across from the Clemens Cove camp, and a machete from the fence as a sword. I think there is a broken pirate sword west of St Denis.

I never used the sawed off shotgun. It’s just not worth it to replace your revolver for it and once you get two holsters it’s better to dual wield revolvers.

I started playing a few days ago and found a double barrel in a house in one mission, best gun for hunting bears, I killed it in 5 shots.
I think that instead of locking weapons, they should’ve kept better weapons in eastern towns like Saint Denis and annesburg. What I was thinking was the towns have heavier security in those chapters, but if you can get past the law you can buy whatever you can afford.

If you got the repeating shot gun earlier in the game it would be more memorable. For me, the pump action shot gun is always my go to because you can get it as soon as you start chapter 2 and will have it for the rest of the game
