  • This EV road trip takes us from the Nürburgring in Germany all the way to Oslo, Norway! We take the 2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo on a road trip heading up from Germany through Denmark and Sweden where we finally end in Norway. An absolute adventure trying out different charging providers from ENBV to Ionity and seeing some great cities along the way.

      This only is true for Alpitronic chargers or Ionity.
      Alpitronic always works, Ionity works because they repair them very very often.
      A typical Tesla driver or driver of another EV knows this and simply doesn't go to stations with e.g. Efacec or ABB hardware (as the first stop) as they are always broken. :P
      He was just lucky to always choose the right ones.

    Yeah it can charge quick but what you did was practically toasting the battery. Charging at such speeds and temperature is a killer combo to make sure this battery doesn’t live long. It’s important to mention that. Heat kills batteries, be it an iPhone one or a Porsche Taycan one

  • @abraxastulammo9940

    1:27:40 270 kW, finally captured on display! 😁
    4-72 % in 18 min. and 64.2 kWh delivered means an average charging speed of 214 kW - insane it can keep it over 200 kW!

    • @reneh.8817
      @reneh.8817 Před 2 lety

      It's really awesome! But, the 64 kWh include charging losses. Since Taycan can only charge max. 85 kWh into its battery under this conditions, 68% SOC means roughly around 58 kWh charged (taking into account that OCV curve is not linear). So, probably around 190-195 kW average which is still top notch.

    Kyle, would you recommend optioning the passenger display in a CT? I'm often finding that I wish I could have a map open while also having another screen showing audio or whatever, or even one map showing a 50-mile/km field and another map showing only about a couple hundred meters/yards (so you can read all the road names that you're passing). I'm wondering what is missing from the passenger display (vs. the center display), and whether it is fully functional if there is no passenger in the front seat. (I don't like the map display in the instrument panel.)

    Just for info if someone is going up north and thinking about taking ferry or not. Its just 45 min journey over Fehmarn sound from Puttgarden Germany to Rodby Denmark. Ferries leave every 30 mins except during very early hours of the night when they leave once an hour. When driving ICE car its the route to take since it provides good rest time between 600km+ fillups. There is currently tunnel being build under sea so in about ten years time its even faster connection. Already now its 135km's shorter route.

  • @ronb4633
    @ronb4633 Před 2 lety +1

    Kyle, you cannot stop charging by hitting button on car unless car is unlocked 1:23:20 Also that may have been your problem with opening the charge port. The swipe to open only works if the car is unlocked. That’s also true for the manual port. I also kept the manual port on my Taycan so that I could leave it open to let others plug in my car at a level two station where we have shared charging at my workplace.
    Great road trip video Alyssa and Kyle.

      For best cooling Kyle likes to put the car in sport+ mode, but is it this really neccessary?
      I always thought it is the other way round and the car would heat up the battery for best performance... 🤔

    • @ronb4633
      @ronb4633 Před 2 lety +1

      @@abraxastulammo9940 I was always told about the heating of the battery in sport plus mode as well, but I think sport plus mode does both heating or cooling in extreme measure to attempt to keep the battery at a optimal driving temperature which I believe is the same as a optimal charging temperature so Kyle may very well be correct that it would cool the battery if it were too hot in a more aggressive fashion. I personally have seldom used it as routing to a charger does an excellent job of preparing the battery for optimal Charging.

    Hypercharger HYC300 by Alphitronic. 300 is max speed ( 2 units 150 ). You have 150 ( 2x75).
    Now recently HYC400 = so 2 x 200 kw and max out 400. Fastned is using all these chargers ( recent locations ).
    But many more OPC do. So stalls with that screen and build are always alphitronic chargers.

    25:06 The next Ionity station was just 6 km north. ; )
    Sometimes I don't know what the point of the Porsche route calculation is. The Ionity charger is at the next parking lot just 6 km from there and right next to the Autobahn, so why does the navigation want you to exit the Autobahn and go to Aral Pulse? Not only is it inconvenient and time consuming to unnecessarily exit the Autobahn, but Ionity is even cheaper for Porsche drivers since Porsche is one of the Ionity owners.
    Has any Tesla driver ever experienced that a Tesla wants you to go to a non-Tesla fastcharger if the next Supercharger is within range and next to the route? That Porsche system definitly needs to be improved.

    CZcamsr Nico Pliquett also "tested" this charger with Taycan, but he has the tendency to show/demonstrate what is not working outside the Tesla world...
    This efacec charger would need a second power cabinet to increase the provided power from 175 to 350 kW.

      I think that we're looking at such a new computer system that it's not unlike situation surrounding the iPhone OS back around 2008-2009 in terms of early stages... Porsche had one of the most ancient infotainment screens/systems until 2018, when they started adding in a much-improved system. I suspect that their BEV OS system (which is very different from what's in Porsche ICEVs in 2021 models) will be much improved in a couple of years (like 2023-2024)... Porsche has always focused more on driving dynamics than on their computer screens...

    Love the Taycan but not too sure about the Cross Turismo - not as good looking. P.S. Two Mustang Mach-E's in Western Sweden - wow!

    I thought one of the Taycan's strengths compared to the Model S is supposed to be the quiet cabin. So I was a bit dismayed to hear all the road/wind noise when the car was traveling at speed on the Autobahn.

      At 220+, the noise and vibration is insane and pretty scary on normal cars. I thought it was pretty quiet in the Taycan.

    What’s the difference built in China vs other place for Tesla? Seems like you wanted to emphasize that point. Cheers

      I wouldn’t buy a Chinese Tesla or an American built Mercedes

    Next time you're in the EU park your car in the parking spot, not with a wheel on the road.
