- This is a play-through using the "character" Marionette in the PS1 version of Darkstalkers 3. Read on below for more information...
Marionette is a "mirror character", which means she mirrors the opponent. Therefore when you select Marionette, you will be the same character as your opponent for each match. Marionette becomes your opponent every time a match starts.
===== Additional Information =====
---- After winning a match, on the winning screen her quote is ".........", and a black silhouette image of the next opponent appears.
---- She has her own sprite which appears on the character select screen, route screen and the start of matches.
---- She has her own unique winning music theme. (I think)
---- When you complete the game with Marionette, you'll get the special credits where it shows each character's portrait image in sepia colours.
---- If you get on the High Score rankings list with her, she will be listed as a '?' question mark.
---- The game is known as Vampire Savior EX Edition in Japan.
===== About Marionette =====
In story-line terms, apparently she is under the control of Shadow, who is another secret character in the game.
===== About PS1 Darkstalkers 3 =====
Due to the PS1's hardware limitations, a LOT of character animation frames had to be cut... if you're used to the Arcade/Saturn versions of the game, you'll definitely notice it. The game features all the characters from the Darkstalkers series. So yes, Phobos, Pyron and Donovan are in.
However despite the animation cuts, the PS1 version of Darkstalkers 3 is actually quite special, as it is basically a 'collection' of Vampire Savior, Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 all rolled into one single game. If you unlock the Ex Options, you can get to select the system mode of the above three games... so for example if you select Vampire Hunter 2, you'll get the VH2 BGMS, endings and system (such as Pyron replacing Jedah as the game's main boss). It's good stuff and it's a good port of the arcade game.

Marionette and the shadow should've been their own characters instead of possessing others. God I wish Capcom would open their eyes and make a continuation of Darkstalkers with the classic and brand new characters, plus putting the shadow and Marionette fighting as their former selves with no possession.
speaking of Shadow and Marionette, those 2 are the only Darkstalkers that the youtuber "Nostalgia gamer" has not done a Character Profile on. Both Shadow and Marionette are base off wicked monsters that were created by the vengeful spirits of people who were tragically traumatised to death in one way or another.
Personally I would like at least Marionette to be a straight up hero, even albeit accidentally. There is only one otmr two heroes in that world. The rest are either anti-villains or villains.
It's simple, they didn't intend to make another character. Rather she is just a well done feature.

Its incredible to see that there weren't that many sales, for the resurrection title; I would think there is actually a lot of Darkstalkers fans myself included that would immediately buy or pre-order a new Darkstalkers game, heck I would even give money if Capcom were to make a Kickstarter for a new game.

Also I actually see a pattern, the pattern is that whoever the next opponent is, he/she will copy them, take Q-bee for example, if you win the match your next opponent will be shown by the black shadow
The music when Marionette possess someone sounds like a cradle song.
I like so after her victory the misterious music & the character who appears in black, as if it wants you to guess who's next.
I main Marionette just to spite my brother who hates the character
Wait, so if Marionette mirrors the opponent, what if Marionette was put up against Marionette? Would the game crash, or just default to another character in the roster?

Shame that Marionette wasn't a legit character. If so, she would've had some good puppet based moves. What would you guys think?

I thought Capcom gave both her and the Shadow thier own trading card in a spinoff. So Capcom has acknowledged these characters before, its more of a question of when they will be back.

I'd just like to see some backstory for her.
She doesn't necessarily need to be independently playable, since she's a copy character, but having a couple unique moves would be nice.

Interesting concept for a character when I think about it. Creates an excuse for having mirror matches. If I'm not mistaken, SFIII New Generation had mirror matches during arcade mode which seems stupid. I had forgotten that the PS port of Darkstalkers 3 was probably the best culmination despite the frame drops. Even Vampire Collection on the PS2 felt frustrating with having to switch games to use certain characters.
Not if you knew the code to unlock the other characters for all 3 versions of Vampire Savior. Then you wouldn't have to switch games. O and start at the same time are your friends. Same code that allows you to acess Hyper SF Alpha and SF 3 Upper in SF Alpha Anthology's Japanese version, though in the western versions it's start and X.
Marionette might be the remaining 1/3rd of Morrigan.

In either Arcade mode or Original Character (1P Battle - Normal) mode, on the character select screen, highlight the Random (?) box. Now press the [SELECT] button 7 times and then press any attack button to select her.

The ps1 that could do 3d polygons has problems with animation frames of 2d chars?
Two completely different things. The sprites from Darkstalkers are fairly large and detailed as it is and animation frames tend to eat up space pretty quickly. These sprites were originally made for a system board and processing power that's far above what the PSX can do. This is why "arcade-perfect" ports were such a big thing back in the day. The Sega Saturn was much stronger than the Playstation, so it got all the near perfect arcade ports of Capcom fighters
