      People use offensive line as an excuse. Is Tom Brady not the GOAT because he threw to Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman? Is Jerry Rice not the GOAT because Joe Montana was his quarterback? Is Ed Reed not the GOAT because Ray Lewis was in the middle of the field? Is Larry Allen not the GOAT because of Erik Williams, Ray Donaldson, Nate Newton, and Mark Tuinei? Please Emmitt Smith made that line not the other way around, as soon as they had someone to block for they were the best unit in football. Best Offensive line and best running back.
      Emmitt Smith is the GOAT and it’s not close. Nobody is saying the line doesn’t deserve credit but not ALL the credit for his success.

    Im not a Cowboys fan but the disrespect Emmitt gets is beyond criminal. People always talk about that line but most people can only name one guy on that line (Larry Allen, but Emmitt was already a 2 time champ by the time he came to Dallas), and most of that same line was on that 89 team that lost 15 games. No one shits on Jerry Rice for catches passes from 2 HoF qbs as well as another who was a league MVP.

    • @bigred9991
      @bigred9991 Před 8 měsíci +4

      That's been my argument for years as well. Emmitt is the only player in the history of the NFL that gets shit on for playing on a good team.
      Rice played with 2 hall of fame QB's and in an offensive system that was designed to get the #1 receiver the ball early and often. He played for a lot longer than Emmitt as well. Plus Emmitt only had that great line for about 4 years l. After that injuries and drugs took their toll and Aikman had to retire early because of the hits he was taking. Emmitt is #1 in my opinion because he had the stats and rings to back that up. Barry literally had a playoff game with 13 carries for negative 1 rushing yards. Emmitt would never allow that.

Yes he might've beat Emmitt's record if he had a better line but then again maybe he wouldn'tve. Plain n simple people, he quit. I dont think Emmitt has the word quit in his vocabulary n that is why he is #1 n will probably never be dethroned. Remember this, you can never be the best if you quit. Let's not forget Emmitt also won Dancing WTS. Do you know why? Because he is a Winner!!!
    Watch videos of both of them. Barry ran with finesse. Emmitt ran with heart n determination. You can see it clear as day. Heart n determination will beat finesse everytime. I can just about guarantee you that if Barry had a separated shoulder he wouldn't come back into a game n play like Emmitt did against the Giants. I tell people this all the time. Curvin Richards got cut the next day after beating the Bears, because he fumbled the ball like three times trying to run behind that (soon to be) Super Bowl winning OLine. Derick Lassic started the first two games after winning the Super Bowl with that "great" OLine, and he couldn't run behind that line, either. Give the ball to Emmitt and watch things happen! Emmitt was quick, agile, tough, hard-nosed, finesse, make you miss, run you over, catch the ball, block for the passer, do everything kind of back. The best to strap'em up!

    I loved watching Emmitt. You see, some running backs are really good. Others are great, but Emmitt was exceptional. He just found holes and went into warp. The man was epic. His tenacity, both as a running back and a team player, is what defined him. He can definitely run, but he can take down players three times his size in order to make things happen. I remember one game in which it appeared he was stopped. I mean there must've been like a dozen guys around him and than all of the sudden he exploded out of the melee and went over 50 yards for a touch down. That was Emmitt. He just kept going and going and going until every guy on defense, knew for sure he was completely down.
    Privately, Emmitt is a super nice guy. Very intelligent and a great friend to all. I know there have been allot of good or great running backs, but Emmitt, in my personal opinion, was the most exceptional running back in NFL history. Certainly his stats bare that out. Even in high school, he could run. Then as a NCAA player. Once the Cowboys got ahold of him, the rest was history. The big three......
    Aikman
    Emmitt
    Irvin
    They were by no means the whole team, but most people would agree, during the years these three played, the Dallas Cowboys were on top consistently and constantly.

    Emmitt Smith - the one guy that doesn't have to be fast to make people miss.

      Acceleration and top speed are two different things. Emmitt could accelerate and change direction with the best of them.

    • @jehushaphat
      @jehushaphat Před 3 lety

      @@zorro149 I am not so sure about the acceleration part. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with regards to time, which suggests that he has a quicker "burst" than most other running backs. For me, watching him play, it didn't seem like he could change his velocity any faster than the average running back; I could be wrong...maybe I need to go back and watch him more carefully. I definitely agree with you on the changing directions-- I think it helped that he had an incredible balance, probably one of the best ever, even more than Barry Sanders, which is saying a lot. I will not be surprised to find out that he took ballet for some time.

      @@jehushaphat You may be right. People keep talking about how "slow" Emmitt was, yet he ran by a lot of people. I can't go along with the narrative that Emmitt was an average runner with a great offensive line. Whatever it was, there was something special about Emmitt.

      @@zorro149 I agree. Emmitt was definitely special...it wasn't just about the offensive line. You could tell there was a difference when he wasn't playing.

    Sans Walter Payton, no RB in history holds a candle to Emmitt Smith as a complete football player. Smith is not only the NFL's all-time leading rusher, he was a terrific receiver, a monster in the red zone, and a stud in picking up the blitz. Sans Franco Harris, Smith is also the greatest post-season running back in history.

      Agreed. He was just such a complete football player just as Payton was. I'd say the closest to those two as far as being a complete running back is Ladanlian Tomlinson, who like Emmit, tried to model his game after Walter Payton.

    Emmitt is the best back in my eyes because he wasn't the most talented RB or even close to it. So he did more, alot more than anyone in the history of the NFL with less talent.
