This "war" between men and women is horrible. I am a 53 -year old man. I met my wife when we were young and poor university students and we have been married 25 years. Seven years ago, my wife was diagnosed an aggressive breast cancer. Her both breasts were removed, she lost her hair and gained weight due to heavy medical treatments. I think you women can feel the overwhelming anxiety she had...
Her worst fear was that I would leave her because she was no longer as beautiful as before. It took years for her to believe that I am not going anywhere. In some point, she gave me permission to leave and she would understand it. I told her many times, that I am not with you because of your breasts or hair, I am here because who you are! My wife is still with me and doing better.
Yestarday she asked: "Honey, are you hungry, I will make you a sandwich". The way she talks to me, smiles to me and touches me, every day I know that I am loved and respected.
My point is that if you seek love, respect and trust, it takes years and years hard work to build a strong relationship, there are no shortcuts. And love, respect and your character are measured when life hits you to the ground.

The “reframing” of saying i deserve a man who treats me well and that now is the amazing time for running into one, is not in conflict with the statement that “all men are (or could be) trash”. I think thats a bit confusing in ur argumentation structure.
The idea isn’t that the the two ideas are incompatible. Like any other woman, I see how terrible this world (and men) are to us. The idea is that it doesn’t help us to repeat the phrase “men are trash”. We instead need to repeat something that is closer to the truth and extends more empathy to men (e.g. “now is the best time in history to meet a partner who meets my standards”). This way, we won’t fall into the trap of harmfully mislabeling guys, and we also set the bar higher for what we expect out of the men in our life.

I also think men should be more open about their emotions as to not only prevent harming others but prevent harming themselves.

It amazes me how the phrase "men are trash" which started out as a response to women in South Africa being all-too-commonly murdered by their partners, accosted in public spaces, raped, and generally treated with violence and disrespect somehow turned into "men are trash cause my boyfriend cheated on me" or "not ALL men". The hashtag #menaretrash was a direct response to the violence: A message that women have been oppressed and are angry. It's such a shame that a movement for such an important cause was diluted and ridiculed by many people simply because they never really looked into what it was about and focused on nitpicking the phrase. I'm from South Asia and a few years ago during the peak of the movement it opened up great discussions within our community which has some deep misogynistic roots. Too bad it couldn't last longer. People really just took the wrong meaning and ran with it.
