    As a geologist I love it when you bring such terminology as Mohs hardness scale, graywacke, quartz and feldspar, etc. into your conversation. Some basic knowledge of geology can be very useful when one goes into survival mode. It is extremely useful in assessing the best materials for stone tool making.

    I typically laugh at the 24 hour “survival” challenges, since with the exception of avoiding hypothermia, you can survive without pretty much anything for 24 hours. You, however, have shown some really cool creativity, and made this a fun video to watch.

    Hey! Nasturtiums also have AMAZING antibiotic properties. You eat the leaves. Not too big because they're too peppery and fibrous. Not too small. About medium. Eat them - whenever you get the chance. Wash them first - dogs pee on them. You don't want hepatitis/biliary. Since I started eating these leaves I've never had an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection.

      Lol "plain ole supermarket workers" bring food to our tables on the daily. Hope you can join me sometime. In the meantime I am sure there are tons of foraging opportunities to be found in Missouri! A good place to start in your area might be a Perterson Field Guide book to local plants and a micological society or hiking club with an emphesis on plants and trees of your area. Eulle Gibbons' Stalking the Wild Asparagus might also help. I bet there are some good fishing opportunities out your way as well. Just be sure to get a fishing license and look up your local fishing regulations. Take a look at Google Maps and look for green color in your area. This will also help you hone in on local public lands to start your adventure. Thanks for watching!

      @@k4x4map46 It is just as Megan said above. I will get into it in more detail (and how to get around it) in a future limpet-specific video. But the main thing is they have eyes, so if they see you coming (and even if they are not looking but if their shell get's bumped), they use their damp "foot" like a suction cup and clamp down. Once clamped, they are tremendously difficult to get off the rock without a pry bar. Unfortunately, using a pry bar tends to cut them and since they are hemophiliacs they will bleed out, so it is illegal in CA to use them for this species.

    most people definitely eat the guts on the limpets in Hawaii.
    i spent a month camping on the big island earlier this year, and foraged and fished for the majority of my food, and i was only able to do it because of all the things i learned from some locals i met. they showed me which limpets and snails to go for, different ways of preparing and eating them, and all sorts of things that made it possible to survive on almost nothing while i was there. i seriously spend about $300 while on the island for a month, and almost $200 of that was gas money for rides to a couple of really hard to reach spots, and a ride to town at the last minute because i mixed up the date of my return flight and almost missed my flight lol
    but i have tried both with and without the guts, and i prefer with the guts, unless im eating a lot. like if im filling up on just limpets all day, i will definitely squeeze out the guts on most of them because it becomes too much after like 50 or so in a day lol

    • @susanp.collins7834
      @susanp.collins7834 Před 11 měsíci +1

      The guts probably increase the vitamin content.

    • @PKAdventures
      @PKAdventures Před 11 měsíci

      @@susanp.collins7834 absolutely! they mostly eat algae and seaweed, which is packed full of good nutrients, and it tastes pretty good too. but like i said, after a bunch of them i start getting rid of the guts because it becomes too much, and it can even cause a bit of discomfort in your stomach, but it takes maybe 40 or 50 medium sized ones in a day to get to that point, at least for me.
      but fortunately the guts are an amazing attractant for fish, so if you're fishing and using artificial baits you just scrape the guts off and rube them on your lure, then you eat the meat of the limpet. or just use the limpet as bait and make sure you pop the gut sack while hooking it.
      sorry if it's a bit gross, but surviving can definitely be more than a little bit gross lol
