I "grew up" as a newbie biker back in Cambridge during the early 1990's. Some of my friends and cohorts were VERY active parts of the "Locomotive MCC" down Mill Rd! I found your face on Henry Cole's little show, but had one of those "I know that face from somewhere?" moments! MAYBE we have crossed paths somewhere? We spoke at the NEC a few years ago, but I was really distracted by your CB1100 creations! It was only after that that I realised WHERE you came from! (2+2=?)
Those casings look good Guy, I use K2 silver brake calliper paint, it's near identical to the original colour and finish and is heat resistant too.. And yes it really is essential to copper-grease Honda engine casing fasteners, whether stainless or plated.. Last year it took me three weekends to remove the original plated Honda fasteners from both side casings on a Honda CB 125 K3 engine.. To be fair they probably haven't been moved since 1971 when the engine was built but most weren't even rusted in, they just wouldn't move without heat and/or an impact driver with some hammer action !
How come you are so enthusiastic about the Honda Benley? My Dad owned one in the 80’s and used it for work as it was a vary basic commuter bike with the fully enclosed chain and 4 speed gearbox but was very reliable as I recall 😊
You got more on the shelf then Triumph Dealers , Great vid I bought a little 250 trophy TR25W needs some work , but it was the first bike i had at 15 I have got x t120 but like you I fancy going round again ? I am now 68 /great show .
Hi Guy. Is all silver / chrome coloured paint fuel proof? The reason I ask is that years ago I built a balsa wood control line P47 Thunderbolt and painted it with Humbrol silver enamel model makers paint and as soon as it got engine fuel on it which was ethanol based, the silver paint ‘melted’ and I had to strip it off and repaint the aircraft in another colour. I was told at the time by an uncle who was a very experienced model aircraft maker that no silver paint was ‘fuel proof’. Now I don’t know if he just meant that no silver paint was ethanol proof or if he meant any fuel would melt any silver paint. This was back in the 70s and my uncle is long gone so can’t ask him what he meant by fuel proof. However, modern petrol now contains around 10% ethanol so wondered if the paint you used on the casing could be affected is fuel was accidentally spilt on it? Hopefully, paint technology has moved on in 40 years and so not a problem today. What are your thoughts / experiences of using modern silver paint? Have you found it quite safe to use?
Sorry to be picky, but no mention of adjusting the points gap or where and how you fixed the meter leads and how they related to the points gaps opening...or did I miss something? I want to thank you though for a commonsense approach to every day sensible motorcycling useability. Cheap and reliable transport from the very unfashionable end of the biking scale. By the way., could you give a link to the nut and bolt source you use in Bedford?
The hammerite super smooth looked pretty decent to be fair , just wondering how well it will hold up to many many gear changes & foot being rubbed up near it. the timing. i always used the bulb & power method.....mulitmetre just as good ,
I love using what is on the shelf, why buy the perfect match when there is a half a tin of ‘near as damn it’ on the shelf, also late at night in the garage if always looks a perfect match anyway

Hi Mark, the honest answer is I’m not too sure. Luckily I use Esso E5 petrol and that doesn’t have any ethanol in it.
