2001 & The Matrix not getting nominated is absolutely criminal.
@@chesareroach for real
Absolutely great films that I had an out-of-body experience when I watched them for the first time along with the original Star Wars!
@andrewburgemeister6684 I agree 100% they are movies that have had an everlasting impact.
@@chesareroach my Dad showed me 2001 and The Matrix since they were two of his favourite movies and they blew me away!!!
Huge impacts on the cinema industry!!
@andrewburgemeister6684 Incredible! I make sure that I at least watch The Matrix once a year. The Ani-Matrix is also worth a watch, an anime companion.
Alfred Hitchcock not winning an Oscar for directing Psycho is absurd in its own right
@@johnnywhiteiii3511 yup
In 1995, we got Heat, Seven, The Usual Suspects, Casino, Before Sunrise and Toy Story and none of them were nominated for best picture.
+12 Monkeys
@@salvatoresultana4058 😡😡😡😡
Casino shocked me when I found out only Sharon could get in......
What’s screwed up about Singing in the Rain not being nominated is that the year before, An American in Paris won Best Picture starring Gene Kelly. I don’t know why they glossed over Singin in the Rain.
@@salvatoresultana4058 weird!
A lot of these are crazy but recently how did The Iron Claw get no love last year? That movie is so beautiful
@@nrrock23 great one
Omg yes! Zac Efron gave the best performance of his career and was unfortunately ignored.
Children of men make more sense today than when it came out . Completely one of the most underrated movies in the last 20 years
Mostly you have chosen examples which do not support the academy's limited criteria for what represents 'best'. With few exceptions, they don't generally like comedies, science fiction, horror, musicals, politically dangerous movies, culturally sensitive movies, non-linear stories, animation, movies in which a US accent is absent, maverick actors and auteur directors. Therefore not many are snubs, but examples that exist outside the academy's purview. I am glad that there are more reliable indicators of worldwide achievement in cinema than this
Sean Astin or Ian Mckellen not winning best supporting actors for lotr was criminal.
Brokeback Mountain is a masterpiece...absolutely haunting! Crash taking the oscar over it, is the crime of the century!
Loving the scruff guys!! I feel your content has been more diversified lately and more frequent in uploads. Keep it up! Be safe on the 4th! You should do The Patriot for this years Independence Day!!!
@@joshuanaraine thanks! 🫡
And Ian McKellen was nominated for best supporting actor for The Fellowship of the Ring. So at least 1 actor got nominated. I agree with you guys on Sean Astin. He should have gotten a nom for ROTK.
Love this episode and the podcast big time, but I must push back on 1995’s Seven. It was great, but it owed a lot to The Silence of the Lambs. Many would concur that Seven was one of the movies that tried to “copy” from TSOTL. You say that a lot of movies about serial killers were made because of Seven, but no, Silence came out in 1991 and THAT created the fever in psychological thrillers about serial killers. If anything, it was snubbed by the Academy because they had just awarded
the Big Five to Silence four years earlier.
Beast of no nation.
The academy hated netflix movies back in the day
Vertigo strangely did not do as well at the box iffice when it came out, and Hitchcok blamed Stewart is my understanding. So much so, that when he had made NORTH BY NORTHWEST he was supposed to be in it, but Hitchcock took in Carry Grant.
The most disappointing snub had to be Toni Collette in Hereditary not even getting a nomination, she’s phenomenal in that film showing raw harrowing grief and anger and carried the entire film on her shoulders. The Academy I think probably just had a thing against horror movies as viewing them as cheap entertainment but Hereditary is a whole other level reminiscent of classic horror and Collette’s performance was a big factor in that film being terrific!!
Also agree Tom Cruise should have won for Magnolia, yes his more of an action man now but he killed it in this and really went into character as Frank and made you feel repulsed but also sympathetic to his plight and his character’s history of being abandoned and trying to cope! PTA I think really gets the best performances out of the actors who have significant roles in his films!
Dafoe is always outstanding, a memorable role of his is in Mississippi Burning. Amazing movie, wonderful cast, such a forgotten movie.
@@jotade2098 Dafoe should have received a supporting actor nomination for The Lighthouse
Glad to see Thirteenth Lives get some love, fantastic and underrated movie
@@AyeGeeYT 🙌
Guys, come on.. M. Night Shyamalan DID get nominated for Best Director for The Sixth Sense.. do your homework!! 😂
@@globetrekker32able sorry 👀👀👀👀
Still so bitter about Brokeback Mountain but...the legacy and the acclaim the movie has vs. Crash being remembered just for being the movie, that stole Brokeback Mountain's Oscar.
And I rewatched The Banshees of Inisherin couple of days ago, still mad at the huge snub but especially, I've never realised just how ignored Colin Farrell was, until Cillian Murphy got the Oppenheimer Oscar and was dubbed as the first Irish best actor award winner.
@@Busha69 100%
Ok this is getting ridiculous now haha Francis Ford Coppola DID win for best Director for The Godfather Part II. He lost 2 years prior for the first Godfather to Bob Fosse.
Jake Gyllenhaal in general getting snubbed
Gwyneth Paltrow deserved her win in 1999 best actress? Any actresses from that year nomination who did much far better was snubbed!
Duncan WAS nominated for Green Mile, Hanks WASN'T. Hitchcock WAS nominated for Best Director for both Rear Window and Psycho. Moulin Rouge did not win Best Picture. Also you forgot how Russell Crowe should have won for A Beautiful Mind over Denzel Washington for Training Day. Finally, Austin Butler was WAY better than Brendan Fraser.
Central Station not winning any oscars, so sad
I think Jesse eisenberg should’ve won for the social network
Moulin Rouge is NOT a Best Picture winner!!! 😂 guys... What are you saying? What's your source?? A Beautiful Mind won that year.
Thanks for including my comment in the unsubscribes!

Hey guys whats up. Love your channel but I wanted to say that Michael Clarke Duncan wás nominated for the Green Mile for best supporting actor. Tom Hanks wasn't. ✌🏼
@@globetrekker32able thanks! Sorry this one was tough to research without mixing things up!
Does Thirteen Lives count as an Oscar snub if it didn’t get a theatrical release, and therefore wouldn’t be eligible for a nomination?
@@MulEdge it got limited release
The Matrix had no business being nominated for Best Picture. All flash and littered with subpar acting
@@loganwolfe7552 👀👀👀👀👀
It was a ground breaking movie when it was released. We have never seen any film like it. The vfx, the fight scenes, the slow motion effect, the fashion etc

I don't know if anyhone else caught this, but the gentleman above were wrong about two things with 2001. First saying 1964. That was actually when Dr Strangelove was released I beleve. ALso saying that it lost to MIDNIGHT COWBOY is incorrect. that was the following year. It lost to OLIVER, a musical based on OLIVER TWIST. The director of the film was Caroll REED, whio should have 20 years or so should have won for THIRD MAN. I am pretty old, I saw 2001 in 1968 in San FRrancisco. WHile I did not enjoy it I had to admit it was a film that I would not forget. WEhen the nomations were announced, I even as a 11 year old kid new something was not right. Stanley Kubrick did get nominated for director, and won for Special effects.
BLADE RUNNER when it came out was not well rece3ived and was not a finanncila success. Though Time Magaine aknowledge that it was a great film.

John Wayne for best actor on the Searchers
@@Story2ScreenMovieReviewPodcast 🤌
Jacob Tremblay should’ve been nominated for best actor the year Room came out. I remember it being the year Leo won, and overall I think he deservers it. BUT I think Jacob had one of the best performances ever played by a child his age and that movie wouldn’t have worked at all if he wasn’t the actor he was. I always think it was a shame he didn’t at least get nominated. The only performances I remember for that year are him and Leo in Revenant snd honestly I think my opinion is he won over Leo and Leo mostly won that one because of his reputation and not the exact performance.
