  • In this video we explain how to care for your Hawaiian umbrella Bonsai tree, also known as the Schefflera arboricola Bonsai. Watering, pruning, fertilizing - all these topics are discussed. Keeping a Hawaiian Umbrella tree alive is not a difficult task, but there are a few things you should be aware of. For more information, also check:
    www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-spe...
    Bonsai trees are planted in small pots with minimal space for water and nutrient reserves. That means you need to water and fertilize your tree regularly. Make sure your Bonsai gets plenty of light, water, and fertilize when needed and your tree is sure to thrive!
    If you are not entirely sure about your tree species, you can use this guide to ID your Bonsai:

    Not sure I understand “A new shoot will point in the same direction as the leaf immediately below the cut.”
    By “leaf” do you mean the “bud”? So you can do a hard prune on a long branch, and can choose the direction of the next stem by locating a bud (yes?) in the direction you want, and then pruning like ¼” or 1 cm above that?
    Thanks!

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Thats correct, its about the bud. Make sure to cut a few mm away from the bud so it doesnt die back - and only prune back hard if the bud looks strong enough. I usually dont cut back too hard.

    Thanks for the info. I just got a dwarf umbrella plant for next to my desk where it gets no natural light. I have set up a LBW Grow Light which has adjustable brightness and a 4/6/8 hour timer. How long should I have the light on it and at what power level? If possible I would like to have it on 8 hours just so I can look at it (i have a bunch of crystals in the pot too and like the way the glint in the light. Do you have any advice? There is a video on my channel of me planting it and where it is placed. Thanks!

    HELP A BEGINNER!!!!
    I acquired 4 wild trees from the very hot and dry west Texas climate. They were junipers and pinyon or ponderosa pines. I don’t have any specialty bonsai stores around me here so I made my own bonsai soil using some potting soil we had left over, sphagnum moss, and some perlite for drainage. I’ve got them in bowls with good drainage and have been watering them at least every 2 days if not every day. The summer temperature where I’m at ranges from 26c-40c (80f-105f) and all of my plants on in direct sunlight. I’ve noticed some needles starting to brown on a couple of them and I would hate for them to die. If you have any information to help PLEASE send it my way

      It likes light, but perhaps not full sun at midday - partial shade around noon til 4pm would be ideal.
