LOL, I bought a 2011 SS recently that when I opened the trunk to look at the battery it had a bunch of minor surface rust and/or red dust (car was from TX). I was baffled on how water could get in there unless through maybe a failure of the trunk seals. Didn't see any seals bad so while I was messing around in the trunk on other stuff, I noticed this unhooked pipe on the right side (when looking at the rear head on). The light bulb went off and I hooked it back up. It seemed to be pretty snug but will probably loosen over time, so I'll do the heat shrink trick now that I've seen this excellent video. Interesting to know that its for the sun roof... The left side one seemed to be intact so maybe it's just the right one that gets loosened. Now on to fixing another common Gen5 problem with the trunk release cables getting pinched and breaking, causing the trunk release to fail :)

I will try to do a video on the pinched cables, I fixed mine as well! I’m happy this video was helpful, I’m in Oregon where it rains FREQUENTLY. And the heat shrink has held up wonderfully

awesome, it rains a lot here in KS in the spring so I'm glad I found it before it made another swimming pool in the battery compartment. You'd think GM would address that whole water and battery mixture possibility :) My Black SS appears to have been owned by a cousin of your previous owner. It was a REPO so I can't complain too much though. The inside was disgusting, never been cleaned . The body had dents in almost the exact same locations as your does on the passenger side and has a nasty gash on the passenger door so I got some body work cut out for me or a salvage door in my future.

Crazy!!! Similar stories haha, yeah mine has quite a bit of body work needed. But the LS3 is healthy and that’s all I can ask for

So I bought a 2013 2ss recently and I noticed my trunk was soaked after it was raining today and I saw that it was coming from the same spot. But mine were duck taped and idk how the previous owner thought that was a good idea 😂 anyways I just wanted to see if this was just a issue with mine or all of them. And I had the same idea with the heat gun. Thanks for making this video.

I don't have a sunroof but my trunk floods, could there be a tube there anyway? Cold the past few days, now my battery is inside a block of ice in my trunk and I can't use my car until it thaws out

@PowerStoked can we get an update on how this has worked so far? Iirc the PNW gets loads of rain so knowing this has held up would make me do this instead of other ideas. Please and thanks. 👍

I can do that happily!! It has worked PERFECTLY for me. Zero water has gotten into my trunk, also, I’m in the PNW! So I know the pain! Thank you for your comment!

I'm in the PNW with a 5th gen convertible (I know), I wasn't able to find that tube in my trunk, any advice? Thanks in advance.

@@JohnJohn8909 convertibles dont have them. Those tubes come from the sunroof drains on a hardtop.
