I literally need the whole list of brands by categories that are Shelbi approved
I second this! She could do a blog post with all of them and just update them with series! I’d love that , I hope she sees this
She had a list with her discount codes on her website
me toooooooo
I've only seen her 100 good girlfriends
Could you do Levi’s? Because they are advertising their sustainable denim etc and I would love to know how good it really is!!
As a brand their not sustainable I think
I don’t know if you’ve already seen it but she did upload another video to this series where she reviews Levi’s!
@@audsadventures6272 yes I saw it but still thank you for responding :))
Tentree, United by blue, seavees (sea change), looptworks, rareform, converse renew, alternative apparel, Pela case, prana, saola
Would love to hear you talk about these brands!
Seconded! Especially tentree, united by blue, and prana!
@@GraceMuncey Thirded! 🤣 I have purchased clothes from Prana and United by Blue quite frequently. It would be interesting to see what she says about them!
If tentree isn’t “almost perfect” or better, their whole brand is a lie. Most importantly their name. I know Shelbi has purchased from them before, so I assume she already did research on them in the past.
i agree about Tentree, United By Blue & Converse Renew
*i assume she is a supporter of Pela Case, she uses their products & has an exclusive phone case with them
ana Luisa or brush'd (recyclable toothbrush heads supposedly)
second Ana Luisa
The blush pink color looks so good on you Professor Shelbi. Thank you for the hard work you put in your videos to educate us!
Right?? She looks great!
Agreed! So lucky to have Shelbi do all the work for us!
Lmao I read that as bluish pink and I was like what the heck does that meeean
I'm constantly in awe of Shelbi and everything she gives us in terms of information and resources. I've learned so much from watching her channel ❤️
Outfit is giving me Elle Woods vibes 💖💖💖
Can you talk about Unilever? I tried explaining to my family (who care somewhat about the planet but only when its easy) why they shouldn't buy Seventh Generation, and they claim that the reason other companies are more sustainable is because "they're small so no one has gone into depth about them, they haven't been investigated yet" which I'm not sure exactly what that means. But a video would be helpful.
In her last video of ranking brands she talks a little bit about Unilever (and I think seventh generation, too).
I want more info too, I see the logo everywhere and I know it's not good but it's hard to find stuff out! X
@@robynmcalear8277 it’s not that great, go with method like she said if your shopping at target! She literally put that in the last tier I think lol
Unilever is not cruelty free, sells in China and still carries out animal testing so would never ever use and would recommend nobody would especially with the plethora of sustainable cruelty free options available now incl making your own. Baking soda, vinegar and soda crystals all easily available and relatively cheap. I use soda crystals for alot of my cleaning being honest
@@sineadfolan9473 too bad none of those things actually disinfect anything. They might work to wipe off surfaces, but you definitely aren’t cleaning much with vinegar and water
Also, Dr. Bronner's is a eco staple! Body wash, laundry soap, dish washing liquid, general cleaner, what can't they do! haha
I LOVE Dr. Bronner! That was my first brand that I used in my attempts to use natural body care. Love them and their ingredients so much!
Does it dry out anyone else's skin? I've tried multiple scents. It's really harsh.
@@kalo0806 It can be a little drying. It helps to use their bar soap or their sugar soap. Their bar soaps are my favorite, and completely plastic free! They smell the BEST, but you already know about that if you've tried any of their soap.
I'd like to know how Vermont Soap compares to Dr. Bronner's / if it is Shelbie approved!
It makes your hair feel awful, and it honestly doesn't clean very well. Maybe you don't do anything to get dirty though, idk.
Can you cover Tom's of Maine? :)
Dr. Bronner's sal suds is probably the best household cleaner I've ever used. I use it as dish soap, as all purpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, mop solution. It gets everything sparkling.
I plan on buying this and using it for everything! I heard it can even be used as laundry detergent! Anything I shouldn't use that on!?
I've been looking for an eco-friendly toilet cleaner, and never though of Dr. Bronner's - it should have been obvious, I already have a bottle of Sal Suds that I use to mop with. Thanks for the tip!
I use it for all those things as well! I love it.
Can you do a ranking of sustainable pet products?
I really appreciate your research into these companies. This has helped me so much.
PLEASE do Monki!! I stopped buying from them because I don't support fast fashion anymore, but I've seen lots of people class them as a sustainable brand so now I'm just confused :((
i second this!
Yea!
Monki are owned by the H&M group who is known for green washing. They have started using organic materials but overall I’m thinking not good or awful in terms of Shelbi's ratings. I personally don’t buy from them anymore.
Shelbie hope you see this! This is actually related to a video you did a few months back about sustainable makeup items. Can you explain to us how to dispose of the eco tools biodegradable sponge? Do biodegradable and compostable items ever break down in landfills?! Please help!
Edit: there’s just so much green washing these days and consumers are misled or confused about where their “eco friendly” makeup items end up. Thank you!!
So compostable things that go into the landfill just create methane gas and that's a problem.
Hi! biodegradable & compostable are not the same thing. Biodegradable is not a defined term & different brands define it differently. Nothing breaks down in a landfill including compostable materials like food & therefore, a compostable sponge will not either. Those items need water, oxygen, and sunlight to break down properly which they do not receive in a landfill. Now, that doesn't mean that an "eco-sponge" is then not a good option. If the brand is using plant based and/or recycled materials it is better (in my opinion) than buying any ole sponge & throwing it out when you're done. I know I've explained it somewhere before, I would assume in the video you're referring to but there is a huge lack of brands doing sustainable beauty and so I just do the best I can. I've used the sponge I have from eco-tools for way too long but I think a brush would last much longer & therefore be a more zero waste option if that is your main concern. But I'm personally shifting my focus from only looking at the end of a products lifecycle & thinking about the entire lifecycle. AKA, if it made from plant based materials & recycled materials (which the eco-sponges are). But still, they are not compostable, at least not the ones I've seen. Hope that helps!
@@Shelbizleee You are so helpful! I would love to see a video on biodegradable vs compostable.
I was looking forward to seeing what you said about Lucy and Yak when I spotted their logo in your last video. From what I can tell they're a great company, so I'd still love to hear from you about them in a future video maybe?
yes, clicked on the last (and this) bc i wanted to hear about lucy & yak
Can you do meow meow tweet? I've heard so many people recommend them but I'm not sure how good they actually are
Yes!
shes recommended their chapsticks before! If you go to some of her more recent beauty related vids she might discuss their brand as a whole when she recommended the chapstick
I’d love to know about Full Circle? I often see their products at TJ Maxx
agreed! i’ve purchased a few of their products but none have impressed me. earth hero carries them though...
They’re at my target thought it was target brand!
Grove partners with them too. They use full circle to make their dish brushes and similar cleaning items.
I'm curious about TruEarth! I purchase laundry detergent through them (can't do dropps in Canada), but their website/business model kinda turns me off from recommending it.
i use these too, but would love her opinion
She’s actually purchased them before in her laundry related videos but she prefers dropps because they’re cheaper.
I use Lazy Coconuts laundry strips. Less cost, works great.
@@cathystewart2268 only ships within US and to Singapore so not viable for many of us.
Yes would love to hear about TruEarth. I'm also in Canada.
brand ideas: love beauty and the planet, trader joes/aldi, royalty soups, and Ocean Hero
She did ethique in the previous video
Trader Joes, yes!
She hates love beauty and the planet
She’s done videos of her trying to shop zero waste and Trader Joe’s and aldis that you should check out!
I know it's not really a clothing brand but I was hoping you could do 4Ocean...
Last Object and ByHumankind both are advertised to me a lot, I would love to hear about them!
Can't wait! I just purchased a hoodie I needed from pact, after your last video, but I plan on sending them an email asking them to extend their size range so more people can access them :D
As a bigger girl, thank you for taking the time to tell them. Big hugs!
I really want to know about laundry detergent sheets! Tru Earth, Earth Breeze, Beyond, and Dropps all have sheets, and I don't know which are truly eco-friendly....
I would love to hear your opinion on Paula’s Choice! They somewhat recently started working with Teracycle! I chose to start purchasing from them again after finding this out!
I love their products so much, so I’m happy to hear they are working towards sustainability measures
I suggest Pacifica next!
freakin' love these videos from you 💕
Thank youuu 🥺
somehow i just found your channel. Can you do like a 'best of' list, best clothing companies, best cleaning, etc. maybe you have and i just couldn't find it. Nu-in looks awesome, i would never have found them. Thanks for the great work you do!
This is a great idea! Even just top 5 cleaning, top 5 clothing...etc
You can start by checking out her “top eco swaps for 2021” to see what she uses in her daily life
This is very helpful, in a future video I’d love to learn more about large furniture retailers- i.e. ikea / wayfair / article etc! ☺️
Yes!!!
What are the most sustainable underwear brands? Everything else, trying to buy 2nd hand. You are awesome, thank you!
Need this too!
Organic basics!
I think Knickey is a good option, as well as ARQ. Both are mostly organic cotton! Knickey offers a recycling program for undies/bras/socks of any brand as well.
I've been seeing/hearing a bananas amount of MeUndies ads lately and I'm curious about your take on them. I think the subscription angle they push promotes fast fashion/perceived obsolescence but what about the materials they use?
Shelbi - Can you please talk about the Texas winter storm from an environmental point of view - love your series! 🥰
Please rank meundies!
I'm in the middle of home renovations and am finding it REALLY hard to find info about sustainable home improvement products - paint, flooring, appliances, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, etc. Are there improvement brands that are sustainable? This might be a whole separate topic from this series of videos (which I love).
Habitat for Humanity is a great resource!
Method still has their b Corp “stamp” on their packaging but are no longer listed on the bcorporation website. I believe once they were bought by sc Johnson in 2017, they either stopped renewing or couldn’t get it anymore (I’m not 100% sure how the process works).
That can't be legal to put a b corp stamp on your products when you are no longer b corp. It's false advertising (if that is the case obviously).
Actually, I have a method antibac spray and I just looked and I don't see the b corp stamp, so they must not put it on there anymore.
I tried looking up their B corp certification and according to their UK website, they decided not to recertify as a B corp for whatever reason. Which is a bummer because I really like their body wash and hand soap :(
And my body wash still has the B corp stamp and I bought it not that long ago ¯\_( ツ)_/¯
@@Luthien_0 Definitely false advertising. Maybe I purchased old stock but I bought bar soap, hand soap refill, and daily shower spray in the spring/summer of 2020 and it all had the B Corp stamp. :(
Seventh generation is part of unilever and still b Corp certified
I recently purchased from Grove for the first time and I was impressed. The only plastic in the packaging was some tape to keep the method toilet cleaner closed. All the other cleaning products I bought were Grove brand and are concentrates in glass. The filler was all paper. They also included info about their plans to go plastic free/neutral. Compared to other brands I was happy with what I received.
thank you for this info! i used to buy from them a few years back and EVERY product was wrapped in plastic in the box. i definitely felt like they were greenwashing, but it seems from this video and your comment that they are moving in a better direction. i might purchase from them in the future!
I really like ordering from them, I have a membership and every box I get delivered has a little handwritten thank you on the box and it's such a small thing but it's really nice :)
nice to hear! i haven’t checked them out in a few years. it used to be almost all plastic
I buy from grove and I agree the packaging is really nice as far as sustainability. The notes written in the box are such a nice touch. And they are trying to bring in more zero waste brands and I can see that is likely a goal they want to reach in a few years. I agree it’s a great place to shop compared to big box stores. Earth hero is better but I honestly shop from both.
I wanted to get stuff from grove but I ended up not because when I signed up they added a bunch of things to my cart I didn't want with no option to remove. I'm all for supporting sustainable brands but I also don't want a box full of things I didn't specifically pick out. I understand having a minimum order to make shipping worth while but these were free and I just didn't want them... just let me opt out and give it to someone else Grove!
These are my favorite videos. I am trying to be more consumer conscious and these videos really help me out! Thank you so much for making content like this, keep up the great work
have not even pressed play yet but i am 100% obsessed with what you're wearing
Would love to see you talk about ModiBodi 😁😁
IKEA! They have a lot of sustainable practices, and really great veggie hot dogs!
So informative, thank you! I would love to see recommendations of sustainable small businesses on Etsy or similar.
I would love to see you rank pacha soap co as well as parade (which makes underwear). I also would love if you could make a video discussing why sustainable palm oil might not be sustainable
I second Pacha soap, as I recently have been trying to swap my body, hair and skincare to be more sustainable, and toxic free... I have tried their soaps, would like to know more about their practices.
I hope Pacha is good, I love their shampoo bar.
I always feel bombarded by Aveda's "mission" whenever I'm on their website. It seems loud, but not specific. I know you don't personally put a lot of store in specialized hair care products (your hair is naturally beautiful), but I'd love your opinion on the company.
Owned by Estee Lauder ELC so by default not sustainable
So glad to hear that method is a relatively good brand. I like to have a couple big box store brands on hand to recommend to people who aren't yet super into sustainability. That way they can start to have eco friendly ideas on their radar, but still get products in stores and forms they're familiar with!
Can you do a video on Ana Luisa, Sororite, and Ola Bamboo please!
Moral of the story: brands carried by big box stores are generally not that ethical/sustainable; the real ones sell online.
I transitioned to support good business like drop, bite, etc. that I learned about from you & others. However I am now transitioning into making my own laundry detergent, dish soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste etc from basic simple ingredients. I’ll see how that goes. I love these videos as they help steer us consumers who care in better directions. ❤️🌎
I was relieved to hear that you finally talked about grove!! I've been using them for a few years now and I'm thrilled with the progress they have made since
I’d love to see your thoughts on Ethique, Josie Maran, Meow Meow Tweet and Mad Hippie. Also, L’Ahmour skin and body care.
She covered Ethique in the first video. It got God tier!
Thank you so much for doing all the leg work and making it easier for us to make good decisions. I know this was a ton of work and I really appreciate it. I value your opinion and knowledge. Also, your outfit is super cute!
I've been really liking my soaps from grove, I love that their concentrates are small so I can order a lot at once and not be run over by back ups, also the little glass jars are so cute for plants 😅
I would love to hear your input on the clothing brand CHNGE. I can't tell if they're greenwashing or not!
This is a good one!!!
Yes i love there designs but ive heard bad things on their labor and environmental practices
Oh I'd love to know about this. I've considered buying from them so many times!
Could you cover The Body Shop? Even though they're BCorp certified they seem to have a dodgy past so I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on them?
Thank you Shelbi! Great video. Here’s an idea for a new one: brands that have been around forever and are big, but are now doing nice things. For example: levis strauss. They are massive, probably not as sustainable as others but they are doing really good things like launching levis secondhand or having levis tailor shops like levis haus in London where they fix, re-purpose broken denim etc. they also ise sustainable materials like hemp. I think that seeing big brands do this actually could be a good thing to increase awareness on people that are not yet environmentalists, consumeristic etc etc. they need to see that another option is possible :)
Would love your take on Norwex, especially their cleaning cloths.
I'd love for you to rank different materials i.e. steel, metal, glass, plastic, silicone, bamboo etc. I struggle with knowing which material is better to buy aside from plastic and also the environmental impact of creating the material.
Love this idea!
I would love if she had a quick guide like this on her website!! Could be the chart that she puts together (god like, almost perfect, mostly good) I’d reference that so much and also send it to friends.
Love these types of videos! Also, once Dr.Bronner’s liked my Instagram post about them and it’s one of the highlights of my life.
Thank you for covering nu-in! The only thing I didn't like about them were their limited shipping options (you can't just go to any post office for returns). Very happy to see you "approve of" the brand :)
would love to see a review of krave skincare! also omg this outfit is so good! giving me senator shelbi energy
Thank you for putting so much research and time into this! so informative and helpful :)
I've never heard of any of these over here in england haha!! SO important to know what to look out for in finding sustainable and ethical businesses, thank you! :) x
This outfit is soooo cute! Thanks for the vid, Shelbie!
I love this series! One of my faves from your channel!
These videos are so so helpful - thanks Shelbi!
On the next part to this series can u please include Lucy & yak they are a really cool clothing brand and have some really unique items.
Love your videos
Loving these videos! Thank you so much!
I would love to hear about Kotn, Mate the label, Pela, Nellie's, and Unwrapped life!
these videos are so informative and just overall so, so useful! i hope this continues as a series on your channel - i would watch every single one of these videos if that were the case. great job, shelbi!
Always here for Professor Shelbi! So good. Thank you so much
I’d love to hear about Love Beauty & Planet!
considering they are owned by Unilever, I have a feeling they would be VERY low on her tier list
I think I remember her covering this brand a long time ago in a video about looking for sustainable or zero waste products at Target! The verdict was green washing if I’m remembering correctly?
Watch Kristen Leo’s video on this brand. Shelbi has suggested her video in the past. They are green washing
@@lilianamunoz3003 yes, watch Kristen Leo’s video called something like “when a brand you hate offers you money to promote them”
@@liv5296 Thank you! Def learning more all the time!
Yay! This had so many of the brands I was curious about!
Could you do Sandcloud?
I LOVE this series!!! So so helpful. Thank you Professor Shelbi.
Love and appreciate all the hard work put into this! You are my go to for sustainability information.
Oh wow, I’m super early-I love your outfit 🥺. Can't wait to watch this all the way through ❤️❤️
Thank you for this!! Extremely informative, I’d be interested in what brand of shampoo/conditioner bars you recommend out of: Earthling Co, HiBAR, zerowastestore, Ecoroots, and Lush
She has a video called something like “i tried every zero waste shampoo so you dont have to” that might be helpful!
@@MC-qv2zy thank you!!! I’ll check it out!
Yes to an earthling co review!
Check out Morrocco Method shampoo/conditioner bars. They are awesome and Christina Sedona (Shelbi’s friend-vlogger) approved 👍🏻
She did a whole video on lush, and lush is shelbi approved!
love this series so much!
Thank you so much for this series!! This is so helpful!
My issue with Grove is how much they push Mrs. Myers. I’m glad to know Grove itself does many things well
This is exactly why I was surprised too haha. I honestly didn't even realize they sold their own products based on ads that push Mrs. Meyers so hard.
Thanks Shelbi!! I would love to hear your thoughts on the brand Amour Vert.
Love this video! I really appreciate how in depth you go about each brand and explain things in a way that is simple and accessible.
I love this video series! Thank you for doing all this research for us 🌷❤️
Hey Shelbi, have you done a video or said anything about Knickey? I just found them. Thank you for all of your great videos!
Would love to hear her review Knickey! I am planning on recycling old undies, socks, and bras with them soon.
Not sure if there has already been a video about this but I would love to see a tier ranking or just a video exposing some of the worst brands like fast fashion brands
I love videos like this! You do so much research for all these brands and I really appreciate that! Also, your outfit is super cute!
Shelbi your outfit LITERALLY took my breath away! You look absolutely stunning 💜
Thank you for these videos. I’ve recently started using Dr. Bronners ❤️ I’m interested in seeing The Earthling Co.
Hi all! Does anyone know if sitting through the adds is beneficial to Shelbi? I really try not to engage with ads, but am happy to put up with them if it helps out our creators. thanks in advance :)
I'm interested in this, too! I, too, am willing to put up with them if it helps Shelbi!
Thank you for all of your hard work in putting these videos together! These are incredibly helpful!
love these kinds of videos. love the in depth research!
Omg! This is a great video! I didn't know Dr. Broners was so good! I stopped buying them because of the plastic. This was good to know
Got to the end! I use Dr Bronners. Maybe you and Immy can do a collb again or she can do a UK equivalent as I'm in Wales
Thank you for the heaps of work behind this video Shelbi ❤️
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!! Please keep making more in the series!!
Please review “activist skincare” and “hey humans”!
Would love to know about ECOALF and Cariuma
Ohhhhhgmygawd, I'm so excited for Part 2 of this series!!! Also, yes Shelbi, this look is *chef's kiss* PERFECTION!
I LOVE these videos. Thank you so much for the effort and work you put into these videos. So incredibly helpful!
Thank you! Embarking on making better and informed purchasing. I do have a question. What about vinegar? I use it to clean, but what is it? How is it made? Is there a company that offers vinegar in earth friendly packaging? Any downsides? You explain everything so well and you're honest. Love you so much!
I looked into plastic free vinegar before, but it’s not possible because it’s corrosive to metal and having a huge glass jar would be too heavy
@@xpraisethekingx Thank you!
Thank you for this! How about Young Living? The Thieves line, specifically.
I’m interested too! Please, Shelbi, look into it😉
Love these videos!! You save me so much time and I always learn new things. Please make more videos reviewing sustainable brands!
The middle part looks soooo amazing on you 😭💗
