You make Bullet Train sound amazing! Definitely on my TBR for this summer. Kotaro Isaka is coming out with another thriller on August 9th called Three Assassins that also sounds SO GOOD. Gonna have to binge both books back to back! Thanks for the recs!
Have read three of these Penance by Kanae Minato is great too And the book Out is a great thriller too. Also there is an Indian movie Dhrishyam inspired by The devotion of Suspect X and it's great
Hi kate , so i picked Devotion of suspect x after watching this video. I started reading this yesterday and after a couple of pages i was like idk why this feels familiar than i thought what if he kills someone else in the end i was having flashback of a movie , i was so disappointed in the end that i was right . So i realised i did watch an adaptation in around 2017 😂 i have no words .But i enjoyed reading it anyway.
Nice list. Some I’ve read and some are on my TBR. I’m skeptical about the upcoming movie but Bullet Train was so good; it read like a superb Hitchcock film-action suspense (and humor) with some philosophical depth. It was my favorite book of 2021.
Great list!! Confessions is a favorite, it has an adaptation but I can't find it to watch. Have you read OUT by Natsuo Kirino? Its a throwback favorite of mine!
Can you please recommend books from japenese literature.... like with Russian literature one can suggest the Karamazov Brothers, crime and punishment, war and peace, anna karrenina etc.... If you can recommend some japenese books like these classics it wud be of great help...
OUT BY NATSUO KARINO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE LIST I JUST FORGOT TO ADD IT BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE IT PHYSICALLY.

Out by Natsuo Kirino is probably one of my favourite thrillers ever and kicked off my love of Japanese lit. I still think about it 17 years later
The way this book was legit on this list but I don't have a physical copy so completely forgot to mention it 😭😭

There are a handful of classic Japanese writers-my favorite is Natsume Soseki. You should start with one of his novels.
