- Update: TKA Theatre Co. received a 2016 American High School Theatre Festival award for outstanding musical theater for "Jekyll & Hyde" and has been invited to produce "Les Miserables" in London's West End and Scotland during the 2017 Fringe Festival!
The King's Academy, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, recently presented the Broadway musical "Jekyll & Hyde" on its main stage. Starring TKA seniors Gregorio Umana, Noelle Leinwol, and Brittany Wallace, this performance showcased young talent that will be seen on the professional stage for years to come.
TKA has an award-winning fine arts program led by Mr. David Snyder (Artistic Director, Musical Theater), Mrs. Sonia Santiago (Vocal Arts), Mrs. Cathy Higgins (Dance- Ballet and Jazz), Mrs. Jacquie Lopez (Dance- Tap, Modern and Jazz), Mrs. Alexa Tiller (Dance- Ballet, Hip Hop and Modern), Mr. Brad Majzner (Stagecraft); and fine arts conservatory led by Mr. Eric Dunn (Band Director and Department Chair), Mr. Will Smith (Assistant Band Director), Dr. Patrick Clifford (Strings), Mr. Cameron Smith (Digital Arts), Mr. Andy Camizzi (Art), Miss Mikah Adams (Popular Music), Mr. Gene George (Elementary Band) and Mrs. Robin Phillips (Elementary Choir). They did! They did it with a new generation of students earlier this year but they brought Gregorio back to reprise his role of Jekyll - if possible, he's even better second time round

The emma sounds amazing. But I think the role should be cast with one with a more classical soprano voice (which signifies her upper class status), which contrasts with Lucy's more belty voice (which signifies her lower-class status). This dichotomy is important (as the whole musical is about the notion of dichotomy) to the musical IMO.
On a side note. The Lucy is as good, if not better (in terms of emotion) than Coleen Sexton for the DVD.
Tbf this is the only version I’ve heard where Emma doesn’t sing like a mezzo
i absolutely adore the idea of emma having a more classical sound. it fits her character so well. the girl playing emma absolutely nails it.
I thought this actress for Emma honestly sounds like a classical singer that's used to choral soprano parts trying to keep up with a very powerful soloist Broadway style singer. I think they clashes far too much but are individually extremely skilled performers.

Great job. I’m confused on costuming. Why is Lucy in a non-period ballgown? Emma’s costume is on point. It took me a while to actually figure out who was who.

This is my favorite musical. I know everyone thinks I am strange. Anyway this production was so amazing. This is such a hard musical to pull off that most highschools and even colleges shy away from it. This cast was extremely talented and I think the directors must have been awesome as well. I say that because talent alone is not enough to pull this off. Someone has to know how to utilize that talent and to bring out the best in each one. A few of the musical numbers were Broadway level in my opinion.

Tom K what you’re hearing in the other girl is vibrato. The girl in red’s voice isn’t ‘steadier’, it just has little to no vibrato.
@@itsminxy_ I think he was more referring to Emma's voice cracking a lot. I am fine with a cracking voice, but when this performers voice cracks it makes her pitch change and she goes sharp a lot.
You’re correct. The other singer sounds like she either has laryngitis or like she may have even been sick during this performance - if not her technique is definitely harming her. Her vocal folds would barely come together to vibrate on certain pitches, and she had no thick fold closure (chest voice) ...
@@itsminxy_ Definitely not just vibrato. Her voice keeps cracking and going pitchy, and she can't control her passaggio transitions at all. Still a gorgeous voice, but she definitely sounds like she was sick here.
