- The Colorado Avalanche found themselves down again to the Dallas Stars. This time by a score of 4-0, which proved to be too much this time. The Avs comeback was successful is Game 1, in Game 2 the had to put all their comeback eggs in the 3rd period basket, and they just ran out of time.
That is the good part of the game, but there are also some aspects to it the Avs would like to forget.
Then there's Jamie Benn and his hit on Devon Toews. Should it have been penalized? We discuss.

Just scrap that one and move on. If you’re gonna have a stinker, game two on the road when you’ve already guaranteed the split is the game to do it. Bednar strongly called out the top line in his presser and I expect a really strong effort in game three tomorrow night.
Not overwhelmingly upset because i figured dallas would win one at home. But its the way the avs lost that bugs me.
I just didn't see the effort from the team infront of georgiev at times in the 1st and all through the 2nd period. You cant just let them cruise into your zone that easily.
Offense was non-existant,
And a piece of paper could've played better defensively. Why? Because it cant take a penalty. until the 3rd came around then the team got going.
Cut the penalties and they probably could've won this game. And if they fix that then i can see avs in 6. But If not, dallas in 6.
And the Toews hit. I'll be honest i thought it should've been a minor penalty. Benn brings his shoulder up and braces for the hit. Not down. UP. I doubt he doesn't know the possibe outcomes of doing that. Incidental contact my boot.
But if the avs fix their problems and mix it with all the advantages they'll have at home in games 3 and 4. Those should be a slam dunk. Because dallas is still letting 3 by like it ain't no big deal.
In short Avs just have to make sure to win every game at home and they'll be fine.
Not a great start and it proved a hill too steep to climb
Georgie had a good game, and the Defense sure didn't help him out for the 1st two periods. The penalties were god awful and really buried us. Back to Denver and let's get some revenge in games 3 and 4! #GoAvsGo!

The penalties, lack of response to Ben's hit, the passes all were not present. I'm glad they found their legs in the third to almost comeback from 4-0. Can't imagine having much energy after killing 10 mins of penalties. Let's get them back and Ben game 3
It was a lethargic effort
This is the best response I’ve read yet! Complaining about everything is a losers mentality, great perspective! Lots of hockey left.
Nothing from MacKinnon and Rantanen. These guys have to produce. MacKinnon's half-hearted attempts at winning face offs infuriates me. Stupid penalties continue. Who, on the Avalanche is going respond to that hit on Toews? Benn is a dirty player. Remember his takedown on Mark Stone a year ago.
People don't seem to realize how 1) winning faceoffs is so important and 2) how bad MacKinnon is at winning faceoffs. I feel your pain on this one bro. Grrrr,,,,
I expect a valiant response
It's weird how MacKinnon is so good at practically everything but he absolutely stinks at faceoffs. You'd think they could have him work on that...
Let’s stop talking about Nathan MacKinnon like he’s Auston Matthews. The guy has 111 playoff points in his career. He’s going to produce, it’s what he does. You cannot expect him and Rantanen to score every game in a series. The rest of the team has to pull their weight, too.
Agree with the goalie comments. Georgiev made a lot of great saves but our defense was terrible. Cross ice passes that go through three Avs defenders...not much G can do. Looked like a brutal hit on Toews but the refs reviewed it and called it OK. Ugly hit but within the rules apparently.
Passing was not ideal. It allowed for bad rushes
The way those penalties were stacking up, I can imagine Bednar telling the boys to resist beating the living [censored] out of that [censored] Benn for that [censored] hit on Toews. Would have just made for yet another PK.
Still. Wanted Ice Justice for that. Images from the movie "Slap Shot" danced through my head the rest of the night. Put the Hanson brothers on the ice, coach!
Georgiev played a fine game; some of those saves looked *supernatural*.
It’s mental lapses for sure
If the hit was reversed Avs fans would say it’s clean and Stars fans would be saying dirty hit. At the end of the day it was a hockey play and a hard hit. The bigger take away is the lack of respond from the Avs. We’ll see how they respond sayurday
When benn hit towes my first thought was manson better get his ass. Also we were so poor in the first 2 periods and im really disappointed in how mack and mikko are playing right now.
Coasting
Clean hit, not clean - does not matter. In hockey, there are hits that you buy the guy a beer in the bar afterwards for and hits that demand retribution, payback, eye for an eye. That's it. What happened last night demands a response, not a beer. When payback is given is a little more tricky, it may have to wait, but to everyone losing their minds that it was a "clean hit" yeah borderline at best, and that's just hockey. But you know what else is just hockey? Payback for hits like that.
Avs just need to not shoot themselves in the foot. Get a lead in games 3 and 4 and we can take this series up 3-1. Game reminded me a ton of losing to the blues in game 2 in 2022. Series was also tied 1-1 after two games.
This series was never going to be easy, a split on the road is good and i expected a letdown against a desperate Dallas team that absolutely could not go down 2-0 again. The next 2 will be a better barometer of the rest of the series
The Avs didn't help themselves last night, definitely a self inflicted loss. There were a couple of screenshots floating around twitter, but one I found interesting was the too many men call on the Avs also showed 6 Dallas skaters on the ice at the same time. Such a judgment call by officials, which seemed to go against the Avs last night. But it's encouraging to see the fight in their third period. If they can channel that energy to start a game and take a lead I don't see how Dallas can stop them!
Teows played 21min, it wasn’t a head shot. Playoff hockey’s for big boys, ask Marner. The mavs are in the playoffs and we had a concert @ the AAC on Mon and the ice does suck, but both teams have to play on it. You can put a cup on and hunker down or go watch ⚽️.
I've never understood the narrative that not liking a hit or how a play ends up, immediately makes you not a "big boy". Like we can just go around doing whatever we want to other players simply because its the playoffs.

@@CA-sl2xw you're right I don't like it. I'm amazed that we've moved on from the severity of concussions and what hits like that can do to the head and brain. Not sure why it has to call into question one's manliness. 50 hits in the game. I have a problem with one and suddenly I'm someone who's never played the game. Quite the opposite. I've grown with the game, and don't have archaic ways of looking at it.

I might be screaming at the clouds a bit, but it kills me to hear all the whining when it was looked at over and over again. My wheelhouse was late 70’s through the 80’s playing against some great players, Joel Otto, Dineen bros, P Zezel (RIP) and others. It was a diff game back then. We didn’t grow up with stop signs on our backs.
As much fun as these games have been I’d really appreciate if the boys didn’t spot the best regular season team in the west a 3 goal lead every night… how many times is it now this season vs Dallas? 4? I know we keep coming back but fucks sake boys…
At the end of the game I was kind of chuckling and not nearly as angry as I thought I'd be. Dallas didn't beat them, they beat themselves. FOUR penalties for such nonsensical garbage as delay of game and too many men? Come on. Hard to score when you are constantly on the penalty kill. And they still damn near tied it up. How sad that the shorthanded goal ended up being the difference maker. Had they showed up on defense tonight (and not wasted a great performance from Georgie), they win this one too. This one is not on Georgiev.
Observation: when the Avs are down, the opposition relaxes. In the 3rd when Dallas thought they had it in the bag, the Avs doubled their shots and took it to them. Maybe coming from behind can become a strategy instead of an annoyance, lol. It was amusing to see the fear of God in their faces when they got the second one, and the way the crowd got very quiet.
Pretty sure Makar got suspended for a similar hit last year, so how that's not a penalty is a bit of a mystery. Toews is an iron man, I didn't expect to see him back. I guess he's this year's Cogliano - he's taken a beating in this playoffs. Jamie Benn is a scumbag and I hope Manson cleans his clock at some point, but I understood them not wanting to take yet another penalty to address it last night.

The Avs played a bad game but if I’m the Stars I’d be pooping my pants right now! They came within a whisker of the 4th goal going inside the left post! PS the Benn hit was a head shot , he left his feet and extended his elbow! He’s lucky Landy wasn’t playing cause he would of dropped Benn on the spot,,, Manson will do something before the end of the series,,, I wouldn’t go after Benn I’d go after their 2 young guys,,, for a 2nd game in a row the ice was terrible, that’s by design!

pretty facking terrible , georgie had a game and everyone else forgot there was one seems like jesus from a crapp pp and pk , to the amount of odd man rushes nm the ones on the pp and lets not forget the 3 breakaways smh yay for the comeback but that was probly one of the worst games all year defensively top 5 for sure , left georgie out to dry big time he played phenomenal, the rest of the team was hot garbage ,disjointed as hell and only more evident we were from the dumb to many mens we too , like smh just wtf , hopfully thye wanna play 60 mins next game not just 10 mons , think half way threw the 2nd too we had 13 shots smh embarrassing

I’m getting really tired of the Avs showing up when they feel like it. Falling behind Dallas every game is not a recipe for success. When is this team going to play a full 3 periods? It’s been an issue for most of the last few years, even when they won the Cup.

Intent to hurt and intent to injure are two different things. Every hit is an intent to hurt. I don't think he was looking to injure, though. He's a big, aggressive, physical player (and that can be dangerous) but you have to be a real POS to purposefully try and injure somebody and I just don't buy that. All that said, I didn't like it because it was so high, legal contact or not. Should have been a penalty simply on the merit of getting those high hits out of the game, because if he had hit his head squarely, even if unintentional, Toews would have been fk'd. Hoping he dodged a bullet and doesn't develop any symptoms over the next couple days.
Oh so just call a penalty because it looked bad? Come on man. This is playoff hockey and the most brutal and physical sport there is especially in the postseason. They gave it a long review and it was deemed clean. You don't call penalties based on it being "close to illegal" for any team. If that were the case every game would literally be played on special teams and no one wants that.
@@larrybrown9883 Let me clarify. I think high hits like that should be penalties because of how dangerous they are, regardless of the outcome. In this particular case, I don't think they made the wrong call based on the current rules since it was predominantly shoulder to shoulder initial contact, but that was about as close as it gets. I'm just saying, if you allow players to walk that tight rope, it's going to go the other way half the time and hits like that are going to cause real damage.
Hoping the boys crash the net more Choo Choo has led by example as great as Ottenger is nothing a goalie can do outnumbered down in the slot and paint.

Just stop with the Benn hit already. First of all the replay proved it was a clean hit to the shoulder even if it was a bit high. It wasn't an attempt to injure him and he's just fine and wont miss any time. Secondly, its the playoffs and it's a physical sport where you better suit up with your big boy pants.
So are we having a different conversation if it is a couple inches higher and is a direct hit to the head? Because he got lucky by inches we are having the thought process of "buck up kiddo". It doesn't take away the ferociousness of it. Yes, it's a physical sport, it doesn't mean all bets are off and we just have to accept everything that happens on the ice, just throw up our hands and say "playoff hockey!". And if you don't think Benn wasn't trying to injure him, I have to assume you aren't familiar with Jamie Benn's game.

What a beautiful day !!!!! The definition of a comeback is trailing in a game and at least tying the game. When did the AVS tie the game 4-4???? I see this team losing because neither Mackinnon nor Rantanen nor Makar scored a goal after each having 3 shots on goal for Game 2. It is okay to be selfish . As seen so many times during the regular season by these three players. Excellent lost I say.
