Speaking at my Grandfather's Funeral, I started out by saying, "He taught us how to cut, chop, split, and stack wood..." That was lost on some, but he, like you, passed this knowledge and tradition.

    You're absolutely amazing!
I had no idea that using different size axes are the solution to my wood cutting issues.

Don't know why this hasn't more likes or comments. Very helpful video for a city girl who never had a dad teach her how. First thing.... I definitely need more axes. I have a hatchet and that's not going to work for the log splitting, now I know. I feel so dumb just saying that. So thank you for the education Graeme. This is my go to channel for learning about bushcraft and the tools I need.

Graeme! I've been doing a collage course on all this kind of stuff and the correct name for the tool at 7:05 is a Bill hook.

The hook-bladed 'axe' at 7.06 & 11.00, is not an axe, or a hatchet, but in-fact a billhook = hook-blade. This is a traditional British tool used for green woodwork, hedge-laying, branch trimming, coppicing, and scrub-clearance & etc. There are many different types (I think there were different styles for each county, plus different ones for each use).

I used to use a bill hook to cut kindling for my dad's fire place and take a axe down the cycle path and come back with a wheel barrow full of logs every day. hard work but I miss doing it for him (he was disabled so he couldn't do it anymore)

21:09 What do you end up doing with big pieces of wood with knots in them? Anyone?

So at the end I would like to know where to get free logs from ? :)

If it's legal (you gotta ask the landowner) you can get free deadwood out of the forest. I'm in the States and some places don't even allow you to clear out the deadwood. Which is dumb because it's just wildfire fuel.
