Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

Families have a huge role in this issue.
Parents should know where their children are going and who their friends are.
But in most parts of large cities, the traditional, nuclear family is gone.
A family needs a strong father and mother figure with some kind of a moral code. Sadly, this is lacking in the inner cities today and will continue.
Too often children are left with a single working mom or a tired grandmother.
My goodness, hearing this sort of drivel gets tiring. Yes, a good family is nice. But the broken family is a consequence of poor politics itself. It's not the primary cause of these problems at all. And focusing on that is going to lead to an increase in these problems. The basis for all of these issues is poor libertarian-like nonsense and the destruction of a functional government. But even suggesting that will get you a truckload of hate, because "government always bad ooga booga". The USA needs education investments, healthcare reform, an end to the war on drugs, etc, etc, etc. And those are investments that will pay themselves back.
Yeah, and no one will NEVER EVER understand this unless you've been there (addiction). It's hard for them to understand how you could live that way....

It's brutally hard for the kids in the neighborhood. They can't go to the corner store or park. Needles and excrement everywhere.

It's not just an addiction issue at play here, though. I understand people want to want help. But, one of the main problems is that the police and local government officials are doing NOTHING to try and find a solution to the ongoing homelessness and drug crisis going on in your cities. And this is across the country in almost ALL major cities.

11 million kids in America are living in poverty and some are even homeless, that's a sad indictment for a wealthy country like America. These are children, they have no say in the matter and any good/decent society would take care of those children. The govt can giveaway billions in cash and weaponry for killing, yet can't look out for and make the effort to look after these poor children, what a disgrace, I'd go as far as to say it is criminal negligence. Billions to a foreign country that really has nothing to do with the US (except some high level corruption with the top leadership of the US and at least one son that we know of) while their own people live on the street, disgusting

Americas shame surely the local authorities and government should put every effort into halting the flow of drugs into the country and spend whatever it takes to help as many of these poor people that can be helped, I know some can’t be but many could be saved from this living nightmare if enough resources was put in the right direction

I work with this community every day. This is not a choice. No one wants to be there. They are my friends, what they have been through most people could not fathom, and they deserve dignity and love. They are human beings. Human beings that did not agree to be in this video and exploited or put down. Be part of the solution instead of sitting idley by and criticizing the hardships of others 💜

Those who live on the streets in DEUTSCHland don't want it any other way. There is a comprehensive social network here that catches everyone. Since 2015, many immigrants from Africa have come here because of the social network, and they are all taken care of. Maybe other rich industrialized countries should take DEUTSCHland as an example?

I grew up in Harrowgate and it is amazing to see how much that has changed and how much stays the same. The environment does not lend to a sense of wellbeing and mental stability, and I wish there was an answer to this crisis.
If you grew up in Harrowgate are you aware that Fishtown is fine? More than fine. Port Richmond is okay...well the parts I've been to.

Curious how all of the thumbnails for this channels videos and most of the footage include young female addict in skimpy clothing. I guess the idea is to make these videos somehow "sexy" and dropping "documentary" in the title also helps to get more clicks. There are hundreds of youtube channels trying to exploit human tragedy in this way.

I've watched three of this SBC videos and the narrator just repeats himself and so I am put off on watching any more of his videos.
Also, You can Not alleviate or use Raising Minimum Wage as a part of the solution to this problem. Because in time six months to a Year all prices for food, rent etc etc will go up as inflation the never-ending cycle of evil to keep low-income individuals poor or ruined and then were right back to where we were when it was suggested to raise the minimum wage.
We need to lower the cost of doing business for everything we do or need. That is a start instead for rent, as an example, greedy landlords keep raising rent every new lease cycle... idiot landlords, Rent Control is needed. I don't know it's all f'kd up!!?!

I'm Asian. My parents instilled in me and my brothers and sisters a sense of moral character. Even when I went away for college, 99% of my classmates were into drugs, so even though I was around it alot, never did I have the urge to experiment into trying any type of drugs... not even pot.
East indians and asians are brought up differently.They have a work ethic and pride.

No savety net seems to be the biggest issue here of course people have made errors but come on you lose your job for whatever reason get mopped by collegues or the boss you cant sleep good enough or whatever maybee didnt get new job so easy landlord is kicking you out maybee you are only behind a week but he wanted to have his appartment empty anyways doesnt have much todo with you this comes in handy cause he wants to sell or other reasons and very fast you have to pay for moving and no job anymore and so you are out of course many people on street are a mess but also "normal" people can it happen very fast

This is the fault of law enforcement. Open drug dealing and drug use without fear. The dealers are easy to spot. Hammer them and keep hammering until you get results. However here in this situation it is clearly obvious the cops are getting kickbacks from dealers and cartels.

Or they could have come from another part of the state where drugs are more expensive. Alot of them come to Kensington to buy drugs... then they do some of the drugs that they bought... then they bring it back to where they live and sell the rest for a profit so they can go back to Kensington and continue the cycle all over again. Selling is how they make their money to pay for their drug habit.

A lot of these people are young. They could have jobs but have been drug addicted since their teens. It a drug problem, not a cost of living problem. If some are not on drugs and just homeless…show them.

The USA have entered a decadent phase, where anything and everything revolves around money. A country where among other wonders someone is not taken care of in case of health issues when they have no money is not better than the worst third world countries. How can one boast about the so called "greatest democracy in the world", when for instance $130 billions+ were recently rerouted from basical needs of society towards Ukraine, for purely imperialistic gain and/or the benefit of two or three majors in armament industry. You all should be ashamed of that situation which theses appalling images are a direct illustration. Again among many others. The narrator spends the entire video blaming government and society for the problems of homelessness and drug addiction with no mention at all of personal choice and responsibility. Clearly there is a correlation between mental illness and being homeless but these Kensington Ave folks are an exception. Most of them just want to get high at the exclusion of everything else, including figuring out how to house themselves.

Thats why its called an addiction. You are willing to put aside any and all aspects of life to fulfill your addiction. It is priority over all things including your own health and well-being. Law enforcement/ the United States Congress/Sententor's🇺🇸 have to work harder to stop the flow of drugs into our homes. These are children and there parents are looking for them!!
