I'm much older than you guys and these were new on the road when I was a young man. The big, big problem these had were transmission troubles. At best it is really a car transmission. Heat (like any Auto trans) is its enemy! Go to the junk yard and find a AC condenser with fans that will fit in front of your cooling units and make that your trans cooler or... get a super big trans cooler with a fan. A trans temp gauge is probably not a bad idea either. Happy camping! Love the videos.
Man that purchase of the totaled camper ended up being the score of the century !
so far it's like a lottery win without the added taxes stealing everything...
I never would have thought of doing that. Brilliant.
Refrigerator magnets problem solved
Great idea!!!
Travel magnets our home fridge is filled with them and there are no dings
They should have enough from rock auto purchases to cover the whole fridge lol
@@BudgetBuildzgreat video...also bold move painting those doors outside... knowing that every insect from Owensburg to the Cumberland Gap was coming....😆
Yep, agree with magnets. Get yourself a nice size Budget Buildz magnet created and pop her over the dents!
This is my favorite series by far. The fact that you get to do it with your dad makes it even better! Looks amazing!
Please take the time and grab your dad and give him a hug and tell him you love him. I promise you and him will never forget it.and will always remember it before you lose the chance in life thanks for all the great content.
Amen to that sentiment my friend. I lost my Dad when I was 22 and he was 52. I am now 77 and have missed that man every day since.
Such an honorable thing to say !!! ❤ DEFINITELY DO THAT !!! This life is not really a promised amount of time, so you just gotta value EVERY SINGLE MINUTE YOU HAVE !!!!
Looks like Pop stopped aging in his mid-30s. LOL. :D
When you go outside of your normal comfort zone and find success, it shows how important your work is to you. I think the motor coach is looking better than when it came of the factory.
Precision cuts…expect nothing less from a machinist. Your Dad is the man. Not including the Porsche, most impressive transformation yet. Excellent job gentlemen.
Have zero interest in doing an rv restoration, but you and dad do such great work i dont want to stop watching. Great job you two!!
There are window films that are way better at blocking heat than others. Research your window film before you choose a tinter. They will help that AC unit a lot.
That's an excellent suggestion ✌️🇬🇧
HVAC tech here. I think your unit is undersized for your application. Its a much larger space than the trailer it came off, and the heat gain from all those windows has an effect as well.
Another option would be to add an inverter style mini split, or an additional roof top ( I've seen two units on many motorhomes and travel tralers)
Im not sure of the price differance because I work commercial mostly. I think its better to have more cooling capacity for those really hot days. Love the build...Cheers!
I might also investigate modern glass coatings to reduce the heat gain.
I agree. There was one of these roof-top coolers being offered up for free and I thought about taking it for my RV until I pulled up the specs and saw the suggested cubic meter space that it was rated for. The numbers were small and it just wouldn't have had much effect. In addition it was heat pump for cooling and electrical resistance for heating which is really inefficient. I decided to go with an inverter mini-split which gave me a much higher BTU to suit the larger space as well as reverse-cycle heating.
You and Dad are doing an absolutely AMAZING job restoring that beauty. Great job guys
That dad of yours is what made you who you are, much respect for you and your dad. You're doing a great job on that rig. Thank you for the great videos.
The pocket hole Jig is a simple but must have tool for strong joints. Michael a tip for next time...For a more finished look on the inside of the doors and drawers, you could have shoved pieces of wood dowels in the screw holes that are the same size as your pocket drill bit afterwards, then glue and then cut them off with a flush cut saw to make the screw holes disappear. When the dowels are cut flush they look like fancy oval inlays when using wood stain but become invisible if they're painted.
Awesome job you two guys did, I love this series.
Michael, you made the comment that you and your Dad weren't professional carpenters, but I must say that the quality of the work that you've both done so far to refurbish this tired and run down motorhome is in my opinion, Very Professional and is turning out beautifully!!! Can't wait to see it when it's finally finished!!!!
plywood in the kitchen vent ? cook a few times and the grease will make it into the plywood and get foul. I would recommend to cover the whole air vent to the outside...
One of the best build series on CZcams
Camper looking amazeballs! I'm always so surprised how young your dad looks. He looks like an older brother to you.
Anyone that follows you both on this project, will appreciate what an amazing transformation you have achieved, you should be immensely proud of the work you do, don’t seek perfection, as you will never reach it, just glory in the job done well 👍❤️
Man, this thing is looking so good absolutely stunning motorhome
Your dad is doing a fantastic job, the collaboration between the two of you is nice to see, the camper will be a beautiful restoration that you will enjoy for years to come, greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪
You and your Dad have done a fantastic job on that camper.
You and your dad have done such a beautiful job on restoring this 1973 GMC travel trailer! Wow! I hope you are able to take it on a trip before summer sneaks past you. Hats off to you on this fun build.
It's looking good. I think the white really helps with the sense of space and it looks clean and modern. Top tip: if you're feeling hot on a hot day ... take your hat off.
Guys you are doing a great job. When I was a kid, I went camping with my parents in Cornwall, England. Your kids are going to have a blast. It's part of their growing up that they will never forget. I'm having a German beer at the moment and I say cheers to you and your Dad.
That camper is looking absolutely amazing!! For lads who aren’t carpenters, you are doing a fantastic job. It’s a joy to watch.
🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
i love this build so much. father and son team. You are both master craftsman. i am so jealous of your beautiful camper. The transformation is senastaional. Peace and love from Norfolk, United Kingdom. Your family will enjoy this so much. It is worth all the time you have spent transforming it.
Can't wait for Episode 13 - love this restoration!!!
Man you guys are skilled with making everything that you put in that RV! Wow. No wonder your dad doesn't have gray hair, he is chill as can be!! lol
I couldn’t wait for the next RV episode! I love Budget Buildz! ❤
You had a beautiful canvas, you are a very lucky man being able to work with your dad
Love the clock! It all looks great! Waiting for the shakedown cruise.
Motorhome is looking awesome nice to see the older ones back on the road 🇨🇦👍🏻💪🏻
Makes me feel good watching you and your dad work on this wonderful project! Keep on keeping on.
Whilst I was watching it...I thought...they must have carpentry experience. Then you said...None. OMG. Buying the damaged camper was a great idea. You saved heaps. You guys rock. I love the kitchen. Keep up the good work. Rob, Cairns, Australia
"You and your dad are absolutely nailing this RV restoration! I love watching you two work together-what a fantastic team you make! It’s exciting to see the progress, but it’s a bit of a downer knowing it’ll be done soon. Here’s hoping you’ll keep the updates coming. You’ve got a fan in San Francisco!"
For the fridge door, my immediate thought was body filler and then wrap it. This is looking absolutely superb. Well done!
Only here for the motorhome. That GMC is an icon, worth the effort and modernising it with a totalled trailer genius. Well done!
That thing will start so much nice conversations on the camping sites. It is an amazing project!
I totally agree about the big windows, would be a shame to block them.
Just saw this and glad to see the project is up and going again!
We got to get it done!! 😬😃
Amazing update.
Orange and blue are complimentary colors and definitely gives a retro vibe.
Yes!! Orange and blue are perfect!
Anime fans call this color combo "Naruto colors".
Burnt Orange!
Car guys call this color combo Gulf colors
You guys are a great team, and you are so blessed to have your dad as your team mate. My dad’s been gone a long time and wish I could be doing this with him - he knew so much about everything.❤🙏🏼
Loving the camper rebuild--we'd love an update! Can't wait to see your family get to camp with it!
You guys rock . Love the way you and your dad work together. This has been an awesome camper revival series. Cant wait to see you taking it on the road with your family for the first time . Keep them coming and thank you for all the great content over the years .
Great build. A couple of suggestions for the dented freezer door. Obviously you can go decorative or functional. If you just go for decoration, then find something that covers it. My preference is to go functional or multi functional. You can get large sections of Velcro, that you can cut to size and secure the "hook" side to the door with adhesive. Now you have a panel that can be used to fix moral patches, a small white board or anything else you can think of. If you go with a white board, you can add Velcro backed pen loops to hold the dry erase pens and add some Velcro, "loop" to a dry eraser as well. And as the board is removeable, you can quickly take it down and put it on the counter to write on.
Can't wait for the next episode!
You two knock my socks off with ability to do work turning the motor home around.
That bottle opener needs one of those neodymium magnets mounted a few inches below to catch the caps as they fall... they sell them with a hole through for a screw. Else, you know they'll wind up on the floor!
use fridge magnets, thick custom made, to cover dents!
Good idea!!! 😃
@@BudgetBuildzyeah. Little arrows that point them out hahahah. Perfectly good used crashed fridge is allowed to own a few dents. I say, look away hahaha
That's why you get souvenir magnets from all your adventures!
@@stevestogsdill5791 good one!
Magnets on stainless steel?
I had this as a Barbie camper when i was a kid. Loved it!
You & your Dad are A MAZING😊
Wow!! It's coming together so nicely, as if you have a blueprint..and, you guys appear to be professional as your work reflects! It's so good to see how well you work together!!
love all your projects, but this one is my favorite. so cool what you guys are getting done. great work and ingenuity!
Man you guys make this stuff look easy! I'm only 9:42 into the video and so looking forward to watching to the end of this video and to the very end of the build. Thank you and your Dad.
dad will not shut up amiright? you guys are so blessed to be able to work on this together. love it.
Lol get out the duct tape
Lol
Really. Can't get a word in edgewise. What a chatterbox! 😁 Thanks for the videos! 👍👍
This journey you guys have taken with this motorhome is incredible! I have enjoyed every minute & I have said before is how you & your dad work together is wonderful! 💜😊
You and your dad, are doing a fine job on that camper... Keep it up, can't wait for final of this rebuild.
I missed a few episodes. That unit looks great! Camper seems such a homely term for it. It looks completely up to date.
Ace job chaps. Just one word of warning about orange interiors. When the tangerine paint hit the UK markets in the 70's I decided to paint my large kitchen with it. With every brush stroke I put on the room got smaller until it seemed like a cupboard. My wife threw a fit and made me cover it with white again but it took 4 coats as the tangerine was practically luminescent.
Do not do yourselves down for one second. You guys are doing an amazing job on this build. Not only on the carpentry but on the filming, editing and also your commentary, just enough being said without going overboard (unlike some CZcamsrs) who don’t seem to know when to stop talking. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the next instalment.
Best wishes from the land down under 🇦🇺
I wish I could have had that good of a relationship with my dad when I was younger. I envy you so much! I love to watch how well you and your dad work together as a team on your projects.
I watched all episodes in 24 hrs. Amazing work gents! Create your logo in a thin metal plaque and put over the fridge dents. 😊
I really enjoy the style of the clock you found for the kitchen… it’s really 70´s !🤩👌
Man, the first video randomly popped up on my home page and I’m so glad it did!
Best series on CZcams!
I feel like I am watching the Bob Ross's of RV rebuilds here. Amazing work!
Nice work! Fix the fridge like a ca dent. Bondo and spray it Silver or black 😊
Best card trick I've seen!!! I will use that! Thank you!!!
You guys don't know just how much I LOVE this version of your show. I know you do a lot of other stuff but I live for this because I always wanted to get one of these and paint it all appliance white and black out tint all the windows just too cool.
Be bold and go orange!! 😁
Yay!!! 😁😁
You keep saying far from perfect but I think you're cutting yourselves short, you guys have done an amazing job
Was just telling someone about this camper project yesterday! Love this project! God bless.
Father and son, what a TEAM. Umbelievable nice work, and uncredible father's skills for measurements! Once again, thank you for your site and congratulations. (my father was a carpenter) Ty from Belgium.
When you get done with the motorhome, you need to do an episode of you and your dad camping.
I dig the orange. You could always find an orange graphic to put on the blue outside to tie it all together. Great job guys!
Love this series. I could watch it all day. Way better than rusted cars that have been in a fire. 😄
Don't diss Pole Barn Garage like that, fool
Man, I have really been enjoying watching this build come together! Seeing you and your dad do this together is really awesome too. It’s inspired me to try and talk my dad into a project. 😏
You'll be surprised how well the modern one way automotive window tint will reduce the interior temps.....ask " Sleeperdude" !
You and your dad really make a great team - the motorhome looks wonderful! Well done!!!! Can't wait to see it finished !
Get a bunch of State Park magnets to cover the dents on the fridge! Retro!
Good idea!!!! 😃
@@BudgetBuildzgo for it👍👍✌️🇬🇧
Awesome update! Love the camper series
Thank you!!! Really glad you’re enjoying! 😊
Wow, you guys have done a huge amount of work on this R.V. . It's looking better and better as you go along.
Great build. That RV is going to be nice!!!!! You all are doing amazing work. Just a FYI, let the ladies pick out the upholstery colors, seems like the good Lord blessed them with a better eye for color than us men. You guys take care and enjoy those "cream sodas"😅
I’m blown away with how this is turning out. It looks perfect
The best advice I can give you is don't select upholstery colors until you talk to your wife.
I was already wondering if he got permission to hang that camping banner LOL
@derekwalters6132
Same here! I was like, mmmmm, not sure the missus is gonna like that one! Too much man cave energy there! 😂
Why would a white Christian husband and father ask his wife for permission to do anything or do a repair project of his. His wife's happiness comes from her making her husband happy. An obedient Christian wife is a happy Christian wife.
@@russellweber4334 probably because it’s not 1824 Ezekiel, and if you notice the LOL at the end of my comment, that means laughing out loud. When that gets put into a comment that usually denotes someone is kidding around, having fun, joking.
@russellweber4334 i hope you get back to reality soon....
Budget Buildz, this never gets tiring watching this Rv Motorhome refurbishment being done by Father & Son team. Out of all my CZcams subscriptions this is my #1 go to channel, you and Dad are fantastic at what you do. Thank you Budget Buildz for your video content and commentary. Keep up the great work.
Love the camper series! And are you sure it's your paps? He could be your twin brother! In a positive manner ❤
Looking good guys. I love working with my son. We are restoring a 1977 C J 5 jeep. It's been a lot of fun.
The orange clock a tribute to its checkered past is just fine...Its looking epic TBH...🤔😳😏😀🇬🇧
That is one IMPRESSIVE make-over! Does NOT matter what you both do - it always seems to be done very well and with great craftsmanship. I thought that gentleman was your brother! Dad looks younger with that beard - keep it!
was your dad like 10 when he had you?you look more like brothers

I’m as invested in this build as I was with the Porsche, you fellas have done an amazing job refurbishing this motor home. 👊
It looks amazing! You and your Dad are a great team and the results are fantastic! Look forward to the finished product.
I'm really enjoying this build! You and your Dad are creating an interior that's far better in materials, craftsmanship and features(!) than the original. I say go for the orange: it's OK for interiors and exteriors to have completely different vibes. And it's yours - make it how you want it, and enjoy it!
That rig is gonna be so rad when you're done
Great progress! I've really enjoyed watching you bring this beast back from the horror it was when you got it. I hope it gives your family memories that last a lifetime and takes you everywhere you want to go.
It’s coming along really well, you should both be proud of what you’ve done. I’d go orange but I ain’t no fashion guru!
I have been with you two guys since before the Porsche was found in a scrap yard and that build was pretty epic. But in its own way this GMC rebuild is pretty epic as well.
As always its great to see Dad and Son spending quality time together and having fun. Value these days ....
I like all the things you do but I LOVE the GMC Motorhome series!! Great work! This will be something you can enjoy for many years and your kids will always remember.
Wow it’s looking so amazing now much much more cleaner inside and out awesome work you guys are doing dad n son build ,
Orange and Blue combos are fantabulous!
Love all the work that you and your dad have put into this, and how it is coming along! Loving all of it!
Makes me jealous I cannot find something similar and start my own rebuild RV project!
Love this Campervan build. I repaired a few fridge doors by filling the dents then applying stainless steel look vinyl wrap. Comes out great. So many different styles of vinyl wrap out there now.
Blue and orange is ABSOLUTELY the right thing to do! And don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Good job guys, it's coming along very, very nicely. 👌❤
