    Ben & Rebecca took the normal track for those looking to get on the road. They began in a traditional RV and moved over to something that better suites their lifestyle. How many of you are considering the overseas tiny house travel? I know if it was something I was into, this rig would be it!

      Kombi Life Hey Ben and Leah! Glad to see you guys making the most of things in Europe. We are at home in Alaska in a temporary holding pattern to see what happens in this ever changing world.
      Are you guys interested in doing a collaboration? I working on a video about what overlanding is. Interestingly the interpretation of overlanding here in the states is that it’s a weekend hardcore off roading trip in a 4x4 truck with a rooftop tent...
      We both know, overlanding is not at all about the vehicle or off roading as it can be done by foot, on a Vespa, in a VW bus, Sprinter van, expedition vehicle, etc..
      I’m collecting 1-3 minute clips from real overlanders about what it means to you.
      Shoot us a message on IG or FB if you guys are interested and available.
      Cheers,
      Ben and Rebecca.

    Your channel just pope up so I watched it I am 65, disabled, but as a younger single mom I had a 19 ft travel trailer and took my 6 kids and a different male song for safety reasons the boys slept outside in a 6 man tent the girls slept inside the trailer. We went camping 3 weeks every august as that was when I got my vacation time. I loved every minute of it. But the camper finally died after 20yrs of use. I still have the truck I towed it with. The kids are all grown and gone so I'm alone, retired, and bored outta my mind! I like having a home base but wish I could still travel, but I don't dare go alone. So I sit here wand watch other which helps pass the time. Much love from So.Cal.💟

    very cool build!...reminds me of my ford e350 box van tiny home build (but i like mine even more!).
    personally, i'd replace that cassette toilet with a composting toilet. also, diesel trucks require a lot of regular maintenance, and it can be EXTREMELY difficult to find a good diesel mechanic, and they are usually very busy.

    • @outliersoverland
      @outliersoverland Před 3 lety

      Thanks. We are strongly considering a composting toilet before heading abroad.

      @@outliersoverland go for it, they are AMAZING! i built mine out of a home depot bucket, some plywood, a computer fan, and i got a urine diverter off etsy...whole thing cost like $30 and i like it better than "regular" flush toilets because they are actually cleaner (i have to sit down to pee, so no more misses). peace

    I like his words of wisdom at the end. Also I dont agree with her saying thats the wrong question to ask. Ppl want to know how so many ppl are making this lifestyle look easy. Nonetheless the question was answered.

    I have a 2001 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 (1 ton will give more highway stability) .. with a large aluminum Army Ambulance box on the back .. it's my tool box .. but there's a place to sleep too. We pulled a 39' Jayco Bumper pull camper behind it and lived in it for four years while traveling around the US. If I could do it over again .. IMO it would be a better option to get a cargo trailer of appropriate size and set it up with the options you might need. After pulling new RVs out of Indiana for two years .. you realize there is a lot of "glitz & glam" built into those overpriced and quick to depreciate RVs. A cargo van is a versatile and good basic platform to build on .. with great resale value.

    One change I'm sure you thought about, is:
    Move the Refrigirator to the Kitchen Counter
    ..and the Freezer under the Dinette Seat
    Also, you should have a pass-thru to the Cab
    That empty space between the Cab and the Camper, you probably can use for more storage
    Nice Camper 👍

    I borrowed ideas from your rig while building out my npr which is nearing completion. How often have you needed the 4x4 in Alaska? I'd love to visit Alaska but don't want to get in over my head, my rig is only 2 wheel drive but I carry tire chains just in case.

    • @MerwinARTist
      @MerwinARTist Před 4 lety +1

      There are a lot of "fears/concerns" about whether a 4x4 is worth the expense .. but once you find yourself stuck in a simple spot .. tires slipping etc. and that can happen in the strangest of places .. you just slip it into 4x4 mode and out you go .. instead of hoping to find a good tree to hook onto .. with a winch or come-along or wondering how much the tow truck is going to cost you!!! My advice is stay away from electronic systems to switch gears .. stay with manual.

    You don’t travelling? Covid 19 or Money?!!!

    • @outliersoverland
      @outliersoverland Před 3 lety +1

      It’s both. International land travel is more complicated than ever and covid has seriously impacted our income streams. We Airbnb rooms of our house in Alaska and this year’s tourist season was a disaster. So that’s $40k that we depend on to live and travel.
      Our big dream is to ship overseas to Asia or Europe but at this point we can only afford Central America, so when it reopens that’s where we are heading.
      If you are doing things better than us please share.
