Especially the directing. You know when the camera was showing the old protagonists to look at each other and th3 scene was showing the younger version of themselves. It shows that you never get old. And that your inner self stays alive.

I loved it. The ending was hopeful but still showed the devastation of these types of laws and how it negatively effects everyone not just those in the LGBTA community. But mostly I just loved it as beautiful if sad love story.

Yeah, being gay was illegal since at least Middle Ages till 20th century in all of the Christian countries. There were some exceptions that decriminalised it earlier (like France in 1791 and then Belgium, Netherlands, Italy et. that took over the Napoleonic Code) but in UK it wasn't officially legalized till 1967.

Gay sex wasn’t decriminalized in England until 1967 (but only in a private residence between men over the age of 21 - the age of consent for hetero sex was 18)
