- RoPieee software turns a Raspberry Pi into a Roon Endpoint. The new RoPieee XL does that too but at the same time makes the Pi an Airplay and DLNA renderer, an ‘Endpoint’ for Apple devices and for instance users of Linn, Marantz, Onkyo, Naim, Panasonic, Sony and other streaming equipment.

Yet again you have created another informative, straightforward video. Excellent work and thank you so much!

Hi Hans, great stuff mate. I decided to amuse myself with playing around with Pi audio for the first time. After your recommendation of the Stack Audio link (great little unit btw) I decided to play with a more naked version of Pi Audio. Pi4 version purchased followed by the Nanosound dac 2. All fun. After playing around with volumio (i think i'm starting to hate that piece of software) I'm a Roon user and Roon doesn't see the pi as an endpoint. So I thought. lets have a look at ropieeexl (love that little piece of software)....No driver for the nanosound........no Roon support with Volumio, betwixt and between. A dilemma followed by more frustration. All the Roon hacks don't appear to be working for me. Whenever I try to update Volumio within the application (and also from putty)more error messages and aborted installs. Would love to see a plug in for Volumio written by the great Roon people or by Nanomesher or for that matter, by mister Ropieee too.
Just installed RoPieeeXL on my Pi2 Mercury v2 streamer, very nice, and free. I have Roon and Qobuz, but with the RoPieeeXL software, you really do not need either of these pay services. The sound is very very good coming out of my speakers, night and day over the Node.
Well, YOU might not need it. I would't miss Roon for the world. And I also have RopieeeXL. BTW, I hope you have sent the Ropieee maker a small fee....
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I'm in the beginning stages of deep diving into RoPieee. And yes, I will donate to the RoPieee creator, I was reading about him last night, he built a heck of an OS. And I agree with your thoughts on Roon. I am still in the free trial period, and still learning, trying to figure all of this out. I will say, it has been rock solid and deserves support.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Hello Hans, you were correct, with RoPieeeXL, after playing with it for a few hours, I see no need for Roon and another monthly payment. I have everything hardwired to the internet and to my Pi2 Mercury V2 streamer. There is simply no need for Roon.
How can i stream Music Amazon?
Hi Hans, another great video thank you! Am I right to assume that this is airplay 1 and not AirPlay 2 protocol ?
yes
The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel Thank you
Thank You again for another informative video. I have been working on getting my digital hygiene better and, almost every video has a nugget I learn from.
Hi Hans, great video. Thank you very much. It's all very clear. I have an Orchard Audio Pecan Pi as a Roon Endpoint that is currently running Ropieee. I want to be able to hear audio from my Mac 27 on my hifi and have been advised that I can upgrade from Ropieee to Ropieee XL and use Airplay, just as you have described in your video.
The creator of the Pecan Pi has in the past advised against enabling wifi on the Pecan Pi streamer in order to prevent distortion/noise. I do not know if he feels this way about Bluetooth but it is possible that the advice will be the same. I will be asking him that shortly.
My question to you is, in your experience has enabling Bluetooth on your ropieee streamers introduced unwanted noise or distortion? Have you kept with Ropieee XL and continued to use Airplay and Roon together on them?
Thank you!
It's not that the noise will distort the sound in a manner that it is nasty to listen to. But the Wi-fi might lower the quality of the music to some extend.
Good content. Wonder if this can work as a PlexAmp endpoint via DLNA.
I don't have hands on experience with Plexamp but if it is DLNA, I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
Hi, on the DigiOne Signature Player what is the Audio HAT card? thanks
That’s the interface card that is put on the Raspberry Pi
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you! On the DigiOne signature there are two cards, one that isolates the audio card, Im asking this because in the video of the RoPieeeXL software there is a part when it asks what model HAT card is being used, do the software detects the hardware automatically? sorry for my questions, I not very technologically incline but I do want to buy the DigiOne Signature Player to stream better quality into my DAC and the to my KEF wireless speakers. Thank you for you attention, you are very kind.
so here is my dilemma and I'm hoping you can help me, I keep getting asked the user name and password ... when I put user name as Pi and password as raspberry it won't accept it .... it says incorrect .. im so lost.
at www.ropieee.org/getting_started/ you find info on support.
What's the difference between RoPieee and XL version?

Does one need a Roon subscription to use Ropiee?
If you want to use it with Roon you need a Roon subscription. If want to use it with DLNA or Airplay, you don’t.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you!
Hi Hans. Informative vid. Question: I’m thinking of switching from roon to audirvana which uses DLNA. While the interface is not as slick as roon, I like the sound better when using DLNA to my BRyston BDP3 and BDA3. I’m looking at the Ropieeexl with a separate usb HaT (if approves and self powered) to hook into my BDA3, and replace the bdp3. BDP3 doesn’t do DOP or DSD over DLNA and Ropieeexl does. Wonder how it would sound vs BDP3 ?
I really can't say. With me Roon sounds better than most DLNA renderers
