  • includHow to use a Bearing Puller Tool.
    How I easily remove the needle bearings from my VW Beetle front beam, tho relevant for wheel bearings, suspension bearings for VW Bus, Type3 suspension etc too. :)
    UPDATE 01/07/20
    Please note I have since found the bearing in my beam to be of a non standard size. While I don't think it will have any difference to how the tool works though I cannot confirm it will definitely work as per the video with a standard beam and needle bearing. I'm waiting for confirmation and will update accordingly. I've added the links below as someone asked where I got my tool.

    Thanks for the vid. Those pullers are only £10 on ebay 👍🏻. I'm just about to weld some new towers myself. Mind me asking whether you had to redo the seat for your bearings after you welded on your custom towers? I've not gone as close to the end as you, but set in about 10mm.

      Hi tx :) I didn't actually build the beam it was an ebay purchase. I've done more vids where you might be able to see what you need here etc czcams.com/video/0l0Si-s2kMc/video.html but unfortunately I can't help answer your query through experience sorry. Good luck :)

    What is the smallest bearing ID (internal diameter) that this puller would fit? The items on eBay show all the other measurements, except the diameter if the jaws that fit through the ball bearing. And contacting the sellers has not worked so far (they normally don't have the items themselves, they get shipped directly from a warehouse).

      @PeoplesCar  Před 3 lety +1

      The end of the fingers on mine measure about 12mm fat, so should be good with about 1'' / 25mm ID. They are quite rough cast items however so may vary, and I guess could be 'modified' slightly if needed. GL :)

      @@PeoplesCar Thank you for the additional info. I was not sure how to interpret the item description on eBay: it said "Range of application: 14-38mm", but also "Pull range: 50-95mm", and the statement "sleeve-type bearings with 1/2"-2" inside diameter". Apparently the tool would not fit into a 1/2 hole, then.

    • @PeoplesCar
      @PeoplesCar  Před 3 lety

      @@TheICTBob That does seem odd if it's the same puller. Are you sure it's not a smaller one?
      I'm not entirely sure the other measurements make sense either I'd have to sit down with the puller and a tape measure to try and figure those out lol. I assume it shouldn't be used to pull with just 1 finger?? as that's the only way the one I have would go through a half inch hole.

      This is just what I was preparing to ask 👍 I want to remove bearings with an inside diameter of 15mm so thought I was going to be alright either way with this but just watching the video plus your answer I think not... hmmm. The listing you link to does describe all the same specs so obviously they're inaccurate. Another question I'd like to ask. With the legs fully closed, how close can the side supports be brought together before they hit the central tripod hinge or top of the legs? I have a very narrow ledge not much wider than the outside race of the bearing itself. Looks like you can put 1 support between 2 legs and the other braced up against the third. If you could tell me that measurement I'd appreciate it. Possibly they could be angled slightly as the tension increases/ removal begins? Thank you, both.

      Just updating the description with this, please note I found the bearing to be non standard in my beam. I dont think it will make any difference to how the tool works but am slightly worried it maybe less effective with stock beam and bearings, this is information I'm trying to find out and will update accordingly, hope that helps :)
