I'd like to know, what's the advantage of a pad over a keyboard? I don't get it.
Well done. Well paced, organized… If this video were cocaine my mustache would look like Christmas.
😂
I'm a bit late to this video, but I just want to say thank you. This video is exactly what I was looking for. There are so many Push videos but none cover practical chord construction like this. I'm familiar with music theory but have been using Push in the 'in key' note mode. You've helped give me the confidence to step into the scary chromatic mode and I feel I have unlocked a whole new realm of expression and flexibility.
Thanks this was extremely informative. Can't wait to play and explore on my push2.
thank you for your effort
Happy to help!
Perfect video!
Thank you!
This was great, thanks for putting in so much effort!
Appreciate the long in depth video man. Other ppl have made similar videos but they wanna speed thru like they have a time limit LOL thanks for actually taking the time to explain things
Thank you so much - this was super fun and informative
I've been waiting years for this video 🎯🙌🏾🔥🔥 Thank you!! I would love to learn music theory on the Push 2
Great video. Coming back to watch again
This is such a great video! Thanks so much 😊 Blessings
Thank you so much for making this video! It's the only thing I've found that actually lays out, clearly and methodically, the combination of basic chord theory with the strange magic of the chromatic pad layout. Just super clear and useful. Great work.
I love this instrument. I have been using it as a controller and occasionally getting lost in playing around but I’ve never made it as far as this. So rad thank you so much for this video. I liked and sub’d - MEGA
super helpful video. thank you for sharing this knowledge
Thanks mate! I learned way more than I expected at first from this vid!
Wow. Just wow. Brilliant video and content across the channel. Super helpful changing my game up massively thanks
amazing tutorial, thanks!
This is a superb video. Thanks a lot.
Bomb thanks I’m new to push 2 love he instrument you’re training was very understanding
I have been looking for the video that explains playing note on the Push. This is the only one I found useful. Thank you very much, keep up the great work !!!
I’ve had a push 2 for some time now, and I second what u said about how it teaches u about music theory, it’s helped me be an all around better musician and helped me understand what was going on in ableton. It can get hard to understand vocabulary in ableton it gets really deep and can become overwhelming. But as I’m twisting bobs or using the drum sequencer which I could never get be it on the computer without the push. It’s helped me a lot and would love to see a video on music theory. Thanks for the awesome vid!
Great video, very few people out there who have the technical know-how plus the musical ability. The isomorphic layout is great, keep it up friend 🏆
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Very very helpful thank you !!!!!!!!!
Nice video. These patterns also work with any other grid controller that has a chromatic mode by 4ths like the Linnstrument or the Launchpad. These are great for guitarists or extended range bassists like me. Patterns here also apply to the fingerboard. Great stuff!
So true! As a guitarist i'm much more drawn towards pad grids then the traditional keyboard
I've understand more about music theory, intervals and the relationship behind the chord changes/names with this video than with other videos about music theory.
Really dope video!!
Thanks so much👍. Liked and subscribed
This is the best video on chords for Ableton Push I’ve ever watched. Bravo!
great video thank u so much
Thanks for making these videos, I just recently pick up a used Push 2, just learning how it works for expanding my production, I will continue to watching and learn. These videos are a big help.
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful :)
Thank you! Really great video. Especially for a guitarist. Absolutely worth the watch!
I commented mid video and my mind is blown. It's exactly like a FRETBOARD!!!
Nice one 👊
This video helped me so much, thank you so much!!
My pleasure!
Thanks for this man ! just got one and needed this
My pleasure!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, every since i purchased my push2 the first day it went on sale have been searching up to now how to take advantage of this note scale chord matrix. Thanks tons, you definitely get your like and I am subscribing right now! ✌️👌🏆😎🔥
Heyo. It's my pleasure! I'm glad the video was valuable to you :)
Thanks !! It's very helpful for me
Happy to help!
when you moved to c minor it instantly became a Laura Palmer theme (Love) of Angelo Badalamenti. Thanks so much. So informative and easy to follow.
So happy to have found your channel! Do you ever work one on one with your subscribers? I doubt you have time for paid lessons.
Glad it was helpful! I do have a few ways I work with people directly. If you're interested shoot me an email: alexandre.joyal13@gmail.com
Thanks
Awesome man! Should have had this a few years ago!! But still great I have this now!
glad it was valuable :)
Was legit sad when this video ended. Got sooo many nuggets from this. Big thanks.
More push2 videos please im about to get one and id love to see it compared to grooveboxes and other controllers!
I'll definitely make some more push 2 videos! Thanks for the feedback :)
Thanks for this content! I have a Push 2 and an Akai Force and this helps me on both! Would love a music theory video as well!
My pleasure! Happy to help. I'll definitely cook up some more theory videos :)
@@metamindmusicofficial Did you ever cook up the Push 2 music theoy videos?
i got to the octave shapes and thought, wait a minute, this thing IS a GUITAR!!!! i bought mine before knowing that, and now i already know how to play it, just need the muscle memory now. thanks for the video!
Superb video. One of the best on Push 2 and chords! This started getting really interesting with the progressions at the end. Would you consider another video where you get into chord progressions? And look at common progressions like 2-5-1 or chord substitutions or passing chords in more depth? I would love to see this on the Push 2. Congrats again on an excellent video.
Endless thanks for the kind words! I'm glad the video was helpful. I'm 100% into making more push2 chords video for common progressions, borrowing chords, pivots chords and the like. Thanks for the feedback :)
This video really helps me a lot!appreciate this !!!!
Happy to help!
this was very helpful thanks
Glad to hear!
Cool. Many thanks!!!!
My pleasure!
still waiting on my Push 2 to get here, gonna be a newbie to the Push game in '22. but geez, thanks man, now I understand why I've seen so many comments about how the Push changed the way people looked at music theory. very cool stuff. and yes, i would love an extended theory video.
Hey Michael! Exited for you to get one, it's such an incredible tool. Thanks for the feedback I'll definitely do some more theory videos with push 2 :)
This is great info. I wish I'd stumbled on this when I first got my push. It took a lot of trial and error to trans[pose my theory knowledge to it.
Glad it was helpful :)
Yes please make music theory on push 2 videos
Here's a whole playllist! czcams.com/play/PLelxXwBl0KxdIC3AvHIW1Ken2Ivn3CCvp.html
Great video! ❤
To me it would really make sense if they'd put an extra RGB led bottom right corner under each of the 64 pads. Like that they could give every pad a small hue in the bottom right corner to indicate which note it is representing. So every note it's own color, 7/12 colors in total. Similar RGB led in the top left could indicate which octave the note is in. I think that would really make it very intuitive.
I play guitar too and for me, the piano improved my guitar skills a lot. Cuz the piano makes more sense to me and so I would make chord progressions on the piano and try them in the guitar. Great vid btw!
Very cool approach! I might have to give it a try :)
Very good music lesson 👍
Endless thanks! So glad it was useful :)
Damn. This was amazing. For some reason music theory clicks better for me in pad form rather than keys.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad it was helpful! Theory has always clicked better with a grid layout (pads, guitar, bass) for me as well.
Great video. Small tip, maybe when you record another video on the push, turn the pad LED brightness down:)
Push2 microtonal, that interests me. My standard piano style keyboard does all the standard equal temperament, but for micro tonal you have to pick a micro tonal scale and bake it in. So I was thinking with push you might be able to have something like, horizontal axis for semitone interval and vertical axis shift row below it some sub semitone interval. I don’t have the Push, so can not experiment with this idea.
“I like this guy!” Thanks for awesome vids!
My pleasure :)
Reacting to what you said in the beginning of the video, i'd personally love it if you can make vids on music theory with the push 2. It'd help me a lot, thankyou for the great informative content anyway:)
It's my pleasure! I'd be happy to do more theory videos. Is there anything particular about music theory you'd like to see?
@@metamindmusicofficial I would like to learn more about keys/chords; As in knowing which specific chords can properly play after another in a track.
Personally i'm at the very beginning of music theory so anything in-depth would be greatly appreciated!
Also i just bought a push 2 yesterday and so far i'm loving it:))
thank you
You're very welcome!
Yes talk about music theory using push2
Working on one right now!
Music theory!!!! FTW
Such beautiful presentation. Thank you so much. I'm a guitarist and I'm Longin so bad to play my synths it's just the piano keyboard doesn't stick at all. I have discovered this method of playing and I almost can't sleep from happiness. So much to learn and finally it makes sense! Please make more videos!
This was a bit heady, def not for the uninitiated. I’ve delved into theory gradually and moderately over time. I know scales, triads, inversions and that’s mostly it. I’m a hip hop head, not from a “trained” background. After about the 7th time watching some of the stuff started to connect pragmatically.
Not criticizing at all just honest feedback that may be useful. Really appreciate the effort and breakdowns for real man
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciated.
I actually made another video that covers all the fundamentals which might be helpful to best understand this video:
Essential Music Theory For Push 3
czcams.com/video/2LA6EfD-TXs/video.html
@@metamindmusicofficial oh dope, definitely gonna check it out now!
lol the video makes me feel like my glasses are dirty lmao, do disrespect to the info, its brilliant
New psuh user here, quick question: any way to disable the extra pads lighting up when you play, if i only wanted to see the notes i play light up?
hey man, which instrument / device are you using in this video?
Yea music theory combined with how to apply it to the push would be great and better than anything found on CZcams regarding on how to play the push for beginners, it will allow people people to learn the piano without ever having to touch a keyboard that’s the future
Great idea! I'd love to do this. Is there anything in particular theory wise you'd like to see on the push 2?
great thanks for that ...very helpful. Don't let your Guiness get too warm by the way
Happy to help :)
Can you save a chord with like 6 or so notes into one pad to build a library of chords? I often have melodies I put into my phone and I just want to press a pad with a chord to see if that chord works. For example, can I work in a key and save all major chords in a row of pads, the minor chords in the next row, and so on? That way I can experiment with different chord progressions on the fly.
You could use the "chord" Midi effect and play chords with 1 pad that way. You could check out a tool like scalar 2, captain chords or the Chord-o-mat max for live device to trigger all kinds of different chords on all your pads. Or you could load up chord samples onto differnt drum rack cells and play them that way!
What would be the best way to dive deep into using chord shapes in different keys? A) change the key in push when you change the song so that the colored root note is always changing to the key of your song? Or B) keeping the push in C Major 100% of the time and just memorizing which pads correspond to which notes keeping C as your anchor point, even when you’re not in the key of C? I ask because the second option seems to approximate the piano keyboard and perhaps give more context that can eventually transfer to a piano. Just wondering what might be the best way to learn based on others experience.
As a bass player, the chromatic mode just looks like a giant fretboard. I’ve spent hours playing the scales and looking at it like this is insanely cool. I feel like my time visualizing scales has been well spent.
now we can all make the lofi beats for studying lol!
Please share music theory using the push. I'm new and I'm trying to go all in. I'll donate and or pay for lessons
I'll definitely make some more music theory videos using push! I've gotten quite a few requests :). If you're interested in working directly with me you can book in a time to chat here: www.metamindmusic.com/book
This video has legitimately made me a better guitarist lol.
This is the first time I developed any understanding of Push note play.
I think the way Push lights up other green pads while playing triads
in scale or non-chromatic mode is confusing and not explained.
Glad it helped!
dope experience feel like I went from low novice to mid intermediate
Glad I could help :)
reminds me of when my head blew up trying to learn the guitar fretboard after a life spent behind the piano.
Is there not a way where this device can make chords for you, like on maschine? Where you select chords so you don’t have to play them yourself?
It's not a standalone piece of gear like Maschine. You have to have Ableton. So yes, you can use the chord effects in Ableton and have them triggered by the Push 2.
Where is the pdf ?
what about using the layout in 3rds instead of 4th?
Totally doable. Just turn the layout knob while choosing a scale and voila! Give it a go.
@@metamindmusicofficial i find easier 3rd and sequenyial in in key layout
Actually it is like another midi controller - the Akai Force and the Novation launch pad ;)
I'd say their similar, but definitely not the same :)
I feel a lil more confident
outstanding for Push-users but I rather stick to a real keyboard, and to be honest: I am selling this guy again just after 4 weeks as it is not my piece of cake. Simply a wrong decision.
Absolutely, the Push 2 isn't for everybody
Who but the Germans and the Japanese could have invented such a device…
It's truly a mind blowing instrument!
Dang you lost me at the inversions. The layouts don’t make sense really and you glossed over why it’s laid out how it is.
