- From the 1979 BBC TV special on the Albion Band. Here they're rehearsing the song that would eventually become the title track to the classic Home Service album a few years later. Many of the same musicians are learning the song in this clip - John Tams, Bill Caddick, Graeme Taylor, Michael Gregory etc, along with Ashley Hutchings, Phil Pickett and so on.

@sirpatrickspens I was at the Greenwich Town hall gig! I also saw them at the Half Moon pub in Herne Hill.
wonderful rare footage!!
The Home Service are touring next year !!!! Wooop!!!!
Oh, I should have known it was written by John Tams! Thanks lots!
@openfold And they've found an old recording from the Cambridge Folk Festival back in 1980-something. AND they're recording a live album on this year's tour. Couldn't get any better!
@gaspode I know...got tickets for the Putney gig last week.....a few more non-festival dates would be nice !!
One of John Tams compositions
oh well, the part at 3:20 has so much more crunch and power than the Home Service version. I really hope that some of these (seemingly) aborted sessions reappear sometime!
I just keep on listening to this because it gives me a chance to see so many of the people I admire so much. Love Bill Caddick here, and if anyone ever wanted the deffinitive look of a folk musician, surely it is John Tams here?
Does anyone know who wrote this song, please?
Singer in red is moi aka Brian Protheroe
Who is the singer in red, the one next to John Tams?
