And not even the decency for a reach around 🤦♂️ 😅😂 ... jk much love n respect bro
I’ve called and emailed you but haven’t gotten any response. That was about a month ago…
Please let us know what parts you need. We are happy to help@@joeshmoe12301230
@joeshmoe12301230 so did I...dap repair told me my mkiv vr6 was too old for them to work on!
@@chrisvowell4961Wait...WHAT?! If that's true, it sounds like a total contradiction to what we see and are told on YT...
Hmm R32 Owner from Germany here: One question why did you not make a full scan with VCDS ? Also the Steering issue should Trigger the Red or Yellow Steering Wheel Symbol in the Cluster it was not there. Please check for communication issues on the Powertrain Can Bus. And btw. If the Mech Unit is from a different Gearbox code it will not work. Softwarefile in the mech unit has to fit to the mechanicel gear ratios on each gear in the DSG. For example a Mech unit from a KQA Gearbox will not work on a KNL or KDE Gearbox . Please also check the Gateway installation List if the Steering Rack was coded out to "not installed". It is the only way to disable the error light without tampering on the cluster itself.
@Deutscheautoparts
This is CZcams content fodder. That is why.
Early dsg you can swap mechs without having to worry about anything besides doing clutch adaptation, mk5 should be able to swap mechs and work no problem
@@carwerks101 Okay so VW does provide a specific mechatronic software for each Gearbox Code because it is so funny ? If it is from the same gearbox code you can simply swap it YES. But not if the gearbox codes are different. That is a fact! If only one gear has another ratio you will run into trouble / malfunctions or simply can communication will not work between ecu and tcu. Correct Datafile has to be flashed then it will work without issues wirh a used one from a different gearbox. Also there are Hardware differences. Cxx Fxx and so on. Hardwareversion and Firmwarefile have to fit!
I worked a short time as a VW dealership technician, and @TrekZero is correct. While I wad there a 07 Gli with Dsg failure was toed in, we had a replacement installed and part of the Elsa installation procedure (VW official publication Tech procedures) does state to refresh TCM and ECM to match the current gearbox code. From my understanding when they are flashed from VW they marry the IDs of both in the modules themselves.
Spider related jump scare at 1:46 ish. Fuck me dead I leapt to the other side of the room.
sameeeeee fuckkkk ahahah
Try watching with earbuds alone in a crowded restaurant. Ugh!
I jumped too even though my brain was trying to tell me it was fake. Holy hell.
It takes a real friend to fix another persons b hole. Props to Humble Mechanic.
Heh. B hole.
Thought that said grundle mechanic....
😂😂😂
I hope the previous owner watches this for the commentary on the jury rig repair. I like to say that it's OK to not know something. Great job guys.
Went to see an Audi A3 last week in the UK. Quickly saw the PRNDS flashing which the seller said was a normal thing 🙌🏽. I said nope, and ran as fast as I could in the other direction 😅
Had same issue with my mk5 steering rack. Needed a new harness. BTW it’s really hard to put the harness in without dropping the subframe. Don’t ask me how I know 😂.
My mate had the same with his 07, £900 for a genuine, he pays £400 for an after market 🤔...... I will keep you informed 😂
@@martycrush6412 sounds like a rite job brother!🤯🤯🤔🤔
Whats the symptoms , mines started shaking on braking at speed, not brakes there basically new
If you ever have to question if the subframe will get in the way, take it off. As someone who removed their transmission with the subframe still in, don’t waste time like I did😂
@@MrDanchurchi know you said brakes are basically new but shale when braking at speed is the most classic symptom of warped rotors. That or maybeeee tie rods/rack ends but id say itll be rotors, especially if you drive it hard
I feel like any time I watch a video with these 2 I get educated and entertained with the humor of both of them. 😂 Always a good video! 👍 Keep them coming for the community fellas! 👊
It's those DSG spiders acting up, you guys cleaned the mech unit but forgot to put in correct amount of new spiders in. Amateur mistake, I have done it too. I put in 5 spiders but forgot to turn one 180 degrees from others, so the car moves forwards but not backwards..
Yet again, I cannot wait for the next part!
Wooow this R32 was just really toasted, good thing you found it and are now saving it! Can't wait for the next episode.
You two just have the best on-air chemistry
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has MKV probz. The one I bought years back self destructed because of a faulty cam. It’s was over 130K miles so it was far past 100K warranty.
Did I fix the core issue? Nope, I was in college at the time and couldn’t afford it since it had plenty of other issues. So I did what any other MKV owner would do: I put aftermarket wheels on it and pretended that the oil didn’t have pretty glitter in it after each oil change. It did last for about 2 more years until it started snapping belts trying to die.
My son was pretty young when he bought a Nissan Cefiro with RB engine and when we changed the oil some ridiculous metallic sludge came out. He did the same thing as if donuts and hooning it would make the engine good. The timing belt and timing went off and valves hit the pistons killing the compression.
Finally.. I've been waiting ever since
Yessir 🤝🏼
You guys are absolutely nuts. Such a great partnership.
I genuinely love watching these two guys work on vdubs
Moral of the story-don’t by a cheap r32 full stop. Even if you are a specialty shop it is too much headache and cost. If this was third party, you would be looking at a horrific bill. Fun content though!!! Thanks for this!
Yes if you were paying our shops to do this for you it would get really expensive
People who buy such cars are mechanics or shops..
@@quadmeister not always, there are people who buy cars like this one thinking it will be easy to fix or will not be too involved, just to get it home and realize they got way in over their head after inspecting it. For example DAP bought this car thinking it had just a few problems (big problems but still a few) and then when they went to take things apart they realized it needs a new mech unit, the coolant port was punched through, the timing was off, the steering rack is not the problem so they will need to do wiring, etc.
@@evanshireman5644it really depends on the person not the car.
@@jamesmedina2062 that was my whole point lmao. People think the fix will be easy until they see what they're working with and realize they're in over their head.
Absolutley hilarious watching you guys, can’t wait for more!
When both of you make videos together it's really very hilarious please continue.
I love these colabs. Y'all are hilarious together.
Effortless comedy, the chemistry is unreal
Great series Paul, You and Humble Mechanic make a great team. The pain of being a car guy is great when you can share it with a friend.
Love watching you two work Together, reminds me of me and my buddies working
Man that bolt is wild! Glad there is a somewhat legit way to fix that though. Another fun and educational video 😃
Really enjoy watching you two work on projects
The tape that covered the hole on the valve cover, was there to shut off the whisting noise that appears when the diaphragm failed. If you have one of these engines and you hear or feel air sucking in that little hole, you have some work to do.
They should have just turned up the volume on the radio instead
@@johnchambers12ah, the Ray and Tom method.
You both rock guys!! Nice no see a vr6 master in his natural habitat, LOL!!😂😂😂 Can't wait for next episode.. regards from QRO Mexico!!
I like the start, no crank issues. Mechanics love them.
Not cool Paul! That spider scared the living sh- outta me 😂😂 love the content
Love the documentary videos! Please keep them coming, you don't know how entertaining it is!
A R32 I did the chains on also had a to long bolt in that same spot. I made a stud and glued it in.
I love these videos! So fun to see the ins and outs of these cars. I used to own a GTI and now have a Mustang GT, but its still awesome to watch you guys work.
don't you miss the Golf?
So excited for more on this and the GTI!!!!
I've been waiting for this episode since forever
I've watched so many videos of you working with Charles but I'm ashamed to say I've never visited your channel. Now subscribed and looking forward to going through your back catalog of videos!
Just made my Sunday! Cheers, you two!
I love these videos. The humor between yours guys is the best.
I’m new here & this was hilarious but also informative 😂
Thanks to you and Charles, I am a proud owner on an r32! I love this car!
Can’t tell you how satisfying it is to se hours, and hours of work in 23 minutes! 🔥
You guys are great! Im always cracking up watching your videos. Keep it up!
Been waiting for this video since the last one. FInally we get to see more of this cheap R32!
I enjoyed Charles' channel alot but the shopdap version has a good chaotic energy
Love the content .Busy as you guys are its great to see more vids ..Thanks
Very entertaining and informative as usual. In the UK, OEM parts supply is becoming a real problem on the Mk4. Same in the US, or are you ahead of the game in finding the suppliers of the OEM parts?
MK4 R32 parts are slowly disappearing in the US too
@@Deutscheautoparts I'll save a part online and come back to it a few month's later and it'll be gone 😢
Do you guys in the UK use Trents?
same here in the netherlands. maybe the shittiest oem stock of europe. We really do not have a single thing here anymore.
Looking forward to a looong series of fixing this car ;-)
You guys together is always so entertaining
I love you guys together. It’s brilliant
Every time I see you guy start projects like this, I want to buy an old VW... But by the time the video is winding down you have corrected my poor thought processes. I think you guys have saved my marriage.
Fuck old vws 😅
I didn't see a power steering light on in the cluster when you were test driving. It makes me wonder if the old rack was in fact the problem, and somebody disabled "steering assist" in CAN Gateway in order to turn off the warnings. If the steering light(s) don't come on at a key on, engine off bulb check, then it seems likely that steering assist is disabled and it may also limit what steering related fault codes are present when you scan. If you are getting the lights and steering assist is enabled, I'm pretty sure there are fusible links for the steering rack, located behind/under the engine bay fuse block.
10:19 the Kensington reference had me rolling 😭😭
At about 10:31, the bent over position that you are referring to is called... The Fentanyl Flop...and that is ZOMBIE like...till they fall and they cannot get up. Here where I live, I seen this in person while riding around on my bike...I laughed when someone told me about it, but then was shocked seeing it a few times.... on the bike paths near the "Area" or "Areas" you do try to avoid as much as possible in the evenings..... I LOVE your VID on this FIX.... first time viewer, as I had friend tell me he once owned an r32... I now know how valuable these are! I myself have always wanted a GOLF R having owned many sportier autos which my parents could never understand and the ex-wife would say I bankrupted myself with.... STILL LOOKING at slightly used 2022 R not 2023... Keep up the GREAT work and videos!! Steve from Canada...way over to the WEST... Alberta.
You 2 are such a great couple 😂 so funny to watch.
Labor of love ! Great job, and video. You guys are too funny 😂! Thanks, RickGTI… 🌴
When you found the hole in the block my first thought was silicone on the bolt… love to see it
Great video boys!
I just bought a 2009 A5 for 3000 65k miles. Just needs a clutch, water pump, and has an oil leak.
Interior and exterior are extremely dirty though.
I live about 40 minutes from your Akron shop and stopped by. Nice shop!
Looking forward to see how this R32 turns out!
You two are a dream team 👍🏽
they are a bunch of b holes
That Crack pipe brings back memories of my 97 glx vr6😂 bought the car for $1,500 needed that replaced, didn't know I'd be replacing every coolant hose, and vacuum hose on the car, replacing the head gasket, and pulling the dash for the heater coil before it was all said and done, all worth it.
Hate you guys too! But for real..... Thank you for all you both do, have definitely helped me get my A3 8p back on the road a few times!
Swapped the DSG in our R32 engined Passat and had massive issues shifting when it was hot. Shoo had to do some relearn procedure on the transmission and it came good. Got another 80,000km out of it already.
Never owned a vw but enjoy these vids👍
As soon as I saw the trans fluid come out I knew it was gonna be bad--never seen DSG fluid that looked quite like that before! Then I was thinking "oh they're replacing the whole gearbox, much better idea". Then kind of shuddered seeing the MU being taken from the old trans--yikes! 😬 Nice effort though at least you got it apart, cleaned and back together--was worth a shot!
Great video and great content. Love it. Nice car if you can ever get it functional:
That spider jump scared the fk out of me on fullscreen loool
thought i was the only one
Love the laughs, you guys are insane and keep the videos coming through the b hole.
I was so gutted when you road tested it and then the trans went into limp mode, I hope you persevere and get it sorted.
That video was so good! Thx
Got me with the spider in the subframe!!
Hoovie doesn’t hate his viewers, he loves them!! 😂
You guys are awesome, love the humor 😂
Look up wiring diagram for the electronic rack, and look for the signal wire, verify you have good power and ground. And if you do the only other culprit would be the signal wire. Get 2 new pins and overlay that bish. Good luck!!! Great job so far
I looked up just as that spider came towards the screen :D jump scare got me.
Best friends help each other with their B-Holes. 😂
But this makes me worry about doing my R36 chains 😅 I did it with a mate who's been doing Euro cars for years but it was his first VR chain. It is crazy how one bolt is shorter and it ruins the block though!
Great video 👍
yoooo that's sooo funny. last week at the shop, my mentor and I replaced a trans in a Chrysler 200, and we had the same problem with one of the trans bolts coming out. it came out the exact same way here, but it was one of the bottom bolts. and the same threads were messed up lolll
I JUST BOUGHT A MK5 gtd 2.0 and the videos youve been releasing is scaring me
Respect for "timin, rhymin and stealin" brother!
You guys are amazing, thanks for the advice about the holes...
Gen3 rack coming right up :)
cant wait for next episode!
"I worry that cleaning it out creates a no chance of reassembly situation"
Cuts to cleaning it out lol!
Really got me with the spider bruh
It was like Beavis and Butthead, Cornholio needs TP for his bunghole! Great video, hope you get the car sorted quickly.
I genuinely laugh so hard at your guys content. Lol thanks for the laughs.
Now that you guys have fully evaluated the whole car, what should have you paid for it? $1500. Love the content!!! “We want more, we want more”
800 is fair
these videos are hilarious!!! Great stuff haha
Come on guys, there's too much laughing going on & not much sadness, am I watching the right channel or have you both been toting on the VW BOM? Big love to you both for some of the most entertaining car videos on the planet 👍
Good video!
i dont even care about Vw's you guys are just fun to watch :D
I loved this video so much 😂😂😂
That spider had me jumping, thanks. A fun episode to watch if not to participate in.
My heart sunk when Paul used the borehole video! Great work on proper maintenance!
P.S. For the love of god, would someone please sprinkle some Ritalin in Paul's coffee!
I like how nothing was done in this video but it made me laugh and smile seeing you and charles laugh 😂
Problems fixed 0, entertainment 1
You guys are hilarious together 😂
15:55 “we could clean this out”
“0% chance we get it back together”
**cuts to cleaning it out** 😂
Love the vid!
You guys are too funny
Keep up the great work 👍
What a gem!
oh ya i love this series
Great work, guys. Love seeing Paul make the same online purchasing errors that we all make, I don't feel so bad now!
Doing the PCV on these engines usually involves replacing the valve cover at the same time - well, that's what the indy VW place I went to said. Wonder if that's mostly a labor hours/parts price trade-off considering you re-used your valve cover?
No but some VR engines have them built into valve cover so they might have just not realized it’s serviceable on some models
@@Deutscheautoparts Interesting - thanks so much for the reply. Keep up the fun times on these builds!
