These vacuums were good 30 years ago. Now they're junk. I had the older Aqua Droid vacuum and it was awesome. It cleaned my entire 28' round pool bottom spotless in 2 hours. I moved and years later got another pool. I immediately bought a new Aqua Bug, expecting to get the same great service out of it. NOPE! From day one I could not get it to work right. It's not as if I didn't know how to use it, as I used one for 5 years with absolutely no trouble. But this one just wouldn't work. My old one didn't have a pressure valve that need to be used either. But I figured something must have changed and now you have to use it, so I did. It still wouldn't work right. The damn thing would start out moving very slow, make it almost across the pool and then just tip onto it's side, even though it had plenty of hose. It would also go in a half circle until it hit the wall, then just stop and sit there. It wouldn't turn away from the wall no matter how long you waited. I tried and tried over and over and wasted more time with it than I would have if I just got in and hand vacuumed. I tried it again every year for 3 years until I finally gave up and just did it by hand. This year I decided to either figure out what's wrong with it, or finally throw it away. The thought of throwing $350.00 of my hard earned money in the garbage made me do some investigating. I found some CZcams videos about problems with them and how to fix them. A couple had said the screw that mounts the little blue piece that holds the A-arms in place was missing from the start or just fell out after some time. So I thought that might be the cause of my issue. I took the bottom off and looked, and the screw and lock washer were firmly in place. So I kept tearing into it. When I got all the way to the top of the internals, I saw that the Cone Gear was melted on one side, so it was missing 3 teeth. Clearly that was a manufacturing defect, because the only way it could have happened otherwise, the entire unit would have to have been melted. So that right there, between the melted cone gear and screws falling out, shows that at Hayward quality control is non-existent. Being out of warranty, even though it came that way, Hayward wouldn't help out. And a new 50 cent piece of plastic cone gear from them costs $100.00. The company has gone down the toilet. They care more about celebrating Pride Month than they do about ripping off their customers. They just take your money and say, SCREW YOU!

We just bought the Hayward Critter cleaner. We have a Skimmer that has a hole in it to attatch to a cleaner and the connector that came with the skimmer is too small to fit onto the cone adapter. Is there any puece made by Hayward that will remedy this?
My pool has a salt system, do I shut the salt water system off? The pump puts it through the salt system which turns it into chlorine with out the smell... I do not see a way to disconnect the salt system. Plus the top skimmer holds a filter there and then there is a bigger filter with the pump I had to buy for the salt system, it is a definite upgrade. I do not have leaves. Also putting water in the hose can be done with the the water coming in it is a spout to remove air. I have a flat plate that goes on top of the skimmer and the hose for cleaning is put on there for suction. That is how I have been cleaning , but I wanted an automatic because of my Ra and joints.. There is a few wrinkle.. My pool is 18 ft round.Help?

I just got off the phone, If the hose fits on the plate that goes over the outside skimmer I will be alright.He was very helpful I have 2 filters the pump for the salt system is stronger then the cheap ones that come with the pool. Although I bought a Poly Group above ground for $800.00 I did not buy a cheap one....Thanks:) Also I told the Hayward tech to fill hose with water it is better to hold it to the spout where the water comes in to make sure there is no air, he said that was a great idea..I did that on my huge in ground in Vt. I now live in Va.. Above ground is all I need.

we have the intex above ground pool, and the 2500 gph krystal clear pump filter. We have tried everything to get Wanda to work, and it will just not move. filter cartridge is brand new, we tried hooking it up into the skimmer, and without the skimmer. Wanda wont move. Is the 2500 gph strong enough to move her?
5000 per hour is ok. The key is as the filter gets dirty the flow diminishes. Many small pumps that come with above ground pools are not able to power cleaners.
The video states to make sure to use the handle so you don't damage it if the hoses to pull out. The one I purchased Wanda whale does not have a handle and the tail comes off if you hold it by the tail. My question why would you make a statement about damaging the product I purchased if not using the handle if it doesn't have a handle? Very difficult to get in and out of the pool without a handle. Poor product because of this. Very irritating when the tail keeps falling off also, I realize this was not a $400 unit but for $150 and being a Hayward I would expect better.
We Have a Hayward 1.5 horse power Power Flow pump and cannot get this pool cleaner to move. Once we hook it up to the skimmer the doesn't appear to be pumping water through it.

Ok, thank you. The main reason I wondered was because on Amazon where I bought it, the review mentioned that the tail comes off easily. I'm thinking maybe they didn't have it on good enough so hopefully it holds up. Thanks.

The Sand Filter isn’t backwashing with any pressure, there’s practically no pressure when the aqua critter is hooked up, maybe about 3-5psi, I feel like not enough volume of water is pouring into the Hayward pump whilst vacuuming. I need a Hayward rep to look over my entire system and correct any deficiencies.
I have a 1hp hayward pump and a wanda whale vac but the water rushes out ten stops then rushes out so on and so on what is wrong wanda is moving but I'm sure that it's not working right help

Deborah, I am going to assume you have a Intex pool. These pools are not friendly to suction cleaners as they need adapters to work properly. These adapters may be available at retail outlets. Also the standard pump that comes with the pool may not be powerful enough to run the cleaner. Ask the pool maker company for recommendations.

I brought my vacuum in the fall of last year so that it can help to clean the dirt that has fell to the bottom of my pool. Summer has started and I still can't get it to work. I have called Hayward brought a new cartridge filter, tested the pressure with gauge everything seems fine I feel suction at the bottom the little feet move but the vacuum does not move. My pool bottom is flat and I have a Hayward cartridge filter system. I'm so sad can anyone please help I am ruining my kids summer.

We are not sure the type of pool you have . If it is an above ground pool with side walls, yes. Depending on the model of the Hayward pump you may need to control the water flow from the cleaner. This is covered in the manual. There is a control valve included. This cleaner does not work well with inflated side wall pools.

Thanks for asking! The DVD was removed as we found that most pool owners were going to CZcams. Some old boxes may say there is a DVD, but we are not including them any longer.
If the cleaner is turning one way in circles it has to be one of two problems. Either the cleaners gear box is stuck or the a-frame to pod connection is bad. I would need to do a turn test to determine what is wrong. If you post your phone number I will call to determine where the problem is located.
@@dannyscarbrough5521the A-Frame to pod connection is the connection between the two long pods on the outside of the cleaner. The shoes attach to the pods. The A-Frames are inside the unit. On the outside of the pods is a plug. There is a screw that connects the pod to the A-frame on the inside. Best to take the unit to a pool store familiar with this cleaner to evaluate.

One of two reasons. The leader hose is not connected to the cleaner head. Instead one of the connector hoses is connected. Make sure it is the leader hose. Second, the leader hose is left on the cleaner when removed from the pool causing the leader hose to have a permanent bend. Always remove the hoses from the unit when removed from the pool and lay straight. If the leader hose is bent try using a pole on the inside of the hose in the sun. If you can not removed the bend, replace hose.

This has to be one of the most misleading video I ever saw. Watched this first and then went out and bought it. Open up the box and there is a waterflow valve and regulator valve that is not even shown in this video. Shame on Hayward.

Many times, when the Above Ground cleaner will not move around the pool, it is because the pump running the cleaner is not strong enough. We would need to know how the cleaner connects to the pool and the model and horse power of the pump to provide more help.

Cleaning time should be 1.5-3hrs.

The 1600 gph equals about 27 gpm. That is not enough to operate the Wanda. The 27 gpm is a clean filter. Much less as it gets dirty.

1200 gph or 20 gpm is not enough power to run this cleaner. You may need to upgrade the pump and filter.

does it work on underground pool?

Box states that a DVD was included in my purchase, but no DVD was included in box. I guess its the CZcams video that will do.

A manual was included in both languages.(ENG, FR) The unit was purchased in Laval, Quebec at Trevi. Some may not have internet access or not computer savi.

Thanks for asking! The DVD was removed as we found that most pool owners were going to CZcams. Some old boxes may say there is a DVD, but we are not including them any longer.

If the cleaner is turning one way in circles it has to be one of two problems. Either the cleaners gear box is stuck or the a-frame to pod connection is bad. I would need to do a turn test to determine what is wrong. If you post your phone number I will call to determine where the problem is located.

the outside of the cleaner. The shoes attach to the pods. The A-Frames are inside the unit. On the outside of the pods is a plug. There is a
screw that connects the pod to the A-frame on the inside. Best to take the
unit to a pool store familiar with this cleaner to evaluate.

Bruce, which model do you have? Please provide your phone number and our Hayward tech can call you to discuss.
One of two reasons. The leader hose is not connected to the cleaner head. Instead one of the connector hoses is connected. Make sure it is the leader hose.
Second, the leader hose is left on the cleaner when removed from the pool causing the leader hose to have a permanent bend. Always remove the hoses from the unit when removed from the pool and lay straight. If the leader hose is bent try using a pole on the inside of the hose in the sun. If you can not removed the bend, replace hose.

This has to be one of the most misleading video I ever saw. Watched this first and then went out and bought it. Open up the box and there is a waterflow valve and regulator valve that is not even shown in this video. Shame on Hayward.

Hard to say what they mean, but many of these cleaners have been in service for years, without incident.
My diver Dan is not doing a good job and he’s one of my favorite pool cleaners and I wish he Can work He always goes around circles and just stays dare he might take almost like 10 hours to clean it I’ll probably more😫😩

I just brought one of these and its not working. everything seems fine but it wont move around the pool did i miss something please help.

Many times, when the Above Ground cleaner will not move around the pool, it is because the pump running the cleaner is not strong enough. We would need to know how the cleaner connects to the pool and the model and horse power of the pump to provide more help.

Why didn't you just include the instructions for the two valves on the video ? What's another couple of minutes ? I mean, you spent 5 minutes showing everybody how to put two 3' hoses together ? Isn't it easier to watch video about the valves instead of waiting to talk to someone on an 800 number ? C'mon man ! I just got Wanda the Whale & these valves are supposed to do what if you can't leave them connected ?

"Congratulation" No - I am not being congratulated. No thank you. This may be a great product but if you had mentioned that it works ONLY one in ground pools with fancy filtration systems then that would be one thing. go ahead and post this damn thing cleaning the bottom of an above ground pool. I mean above ground pool with a 1200 gallons per hour pump! show me that and i will keep my mouth shut. But talk about bait and switch. I will squeeze amazon to see if i can get my money back. but you guys are scammers just like the item you sell.
