- So after months of hard work and problems its finally time to fire this 327 up!!! Will the cam break in or will we fall victim to the lifter failures that have plagued the flat tappet cams recently???
Sounds pretty good... Best Regards
Awesome....Gr8 Engine I have 1 in my c10...stock rebuild, jus added a BG Streat Demon 650, Headers and a B&M shift kit to the rebuilt TH350, Its a Plesure 2 drive long as I keep my foot Light..$$$$$$$$$
It lives!! 👍🏼
Glad to see it alive and man the break in is such a stressful 20-30 min.
Me too, now it’s all the little things I found on break in.
Oooooooo that chop sounds so good
I can’t wait until I get the exhaust and purple hornys on it
Oh man, that’s gonna be sweet in that truck
Getting all the bits and pieces out together to make it all work like it should is the hard part.

I have a 68 Chevelle and I want to rebuild a 327. I am worried about the cam and lifter failures everybody seems to have. Could go hyd roller but way out of budget. So my question is what cam and lifter set up you went with. All the help would really be great. I also see you are in my neck of the woods. I live in New Orleans LA are you in Mississippi later thanks. I love the sound of the engine
After extensive reading and discussion, I finally settled on Howard’s. I understand a roller not being in the budget, at $1000 to get in that game, it’s not in mine either. The biggest thing I have found to making the flat tappet survive is the correct break in oil and using specialized hot rod oil for the life of the engine. I have a competition cam in a Ford 260 that I built back at Christmas. It’s still on the test stand, it’s broken in and ready to install. (64 Mercury comet project on the channel as well). There’s a bunch of videos on this s10, as well as the Comet. So we’ll be able to see if there’s a problem with the cams and lifters long term, between Howards and comp cams. They’ll both be using the same oil. Yes I live in Mississippi, near the Capital, Jackson. Good luck. Thanks for reaching out, I’m on FB and Instagram as real world garage as well. My name is Brian. 👊🏻
how much initial timing are you running
10* now. I don’t know where total is currently. I dropped the distributor in at TDC, and eyeballed it for advance. It fired up and I let r eat for the cam break in. It was a little high, but I wasn’t too concerned about that until I had my break in done. Now I’m screwing around with the tv cable, it’s driving me crazy.
Man I typically run around 36 degrees full advance but my motors aren't daily drivers either is th tyranny a 700 r4
I’ve got to get a dial back timing light, so I know where the curve is and see if I’m going to have to play with the weights and springs or if it’ll be ok where it is. Thanks for the info, I’m fuzzy on the real aspects of “performance tuning”, I can make them run good for a daily. It takes a little more effort and tweaking for performance. This S10 is going to be a daily driver, but we want it to be quick at the same time. No we’re not planning to run 10’s with it. But don’t want it to be a dog either. ✌️
@@oldmanintheshopbuiltnotbou8726 oh and yes it’s a 700r. Gotta get a different tv cable and bracket set up, I thought what I had would work, but the little trip down to the end of the street and back showed its shifting 1-2 at about 10mph. So it won’t be driven again until I get a different cable set up.
