She spent years staying at home taking care of her Mother. Then she went for her dream. And made it come true.
Got bullied for years by kids
Her story is heart breaking and heart warming. She has such courage and determination. And a fragile soul. But she promised her mama.
thats right --Love conquers all.
This was the show where Simon learned a valuable lesson about judging people by their outward appearances. She was a soloist in her church when she tried out. When the show was done with the top finalists, Susan got her wish and sang with Ellen Page and it was beautiful.
Hear hear!!!
Except he still behaved horribly several seasons later w/Jonathan & Charlotte
Elaine
@David Roberts Because always passes judgement on people by their outward appearances.
Was Paul Potts before or after Susan Boyle? Because... same thing. Perhaps he didn't look like he had it in him, but that _voice_! 😍
Susan is the reason that the show "The Voice" exists. She was prejudged because of her appearance.
But unfortunately The Voice UK hasn't produced any stars besides Becky Hill who I don't think became big because of the show since her career only took off years after. With the increase in technology in music, vocals are unfortunately less important than appearance now.
Agree. But boy did she show those doofuses! I watch her original audition over and over just to watch everyone's reactions. 😂😂😂😂😂
@@lkreinmiller-author All part of the show/schtick. Don't be fooled.
@@tomconstance2391 Nope!
its not part of the show
My favorite audition of any talent show EVER. One voice in a century.
Yes this and Paul Potts!
And Sarah Ikumu 😊
Lovely lady iv met her a few times
I know that The Young Lady must have felt awful for her expression. She showed all of them. She became a Worldwide Sensation. I'm sure she must have encouraged people to fulfill their dream.
Jonathan and charlotte... Jonathan will make you cry... (as he cries his way to album #7 now...) oops spoiler ... you will really like seeing Simon... czcams.com/video/ZsNlcr4frs4/video.html
Have you ever noticed how people weep when they hear a voice like this?
It’s like hearing a angel sing for the first time.
I still do even now, when I watch this, It always as if its the first time. WOW and WOW!!!!!
@@jamtalawah2231 me too! She was incredible.
I cry every time.
Watch Charlotte and Jonathan's first audition on BGT 2012. When Simon saw Jonathan he said "Just when you think things couldn't get any worse". BGT has posted that video several times, each has millions of views, one has over 130 million views. It's fantastic, and yes, people were crying.
Yes still do .... i must have watched it dozens of times by now.
She had a breakdown and had to take a step back for a while, the fame got all too much for her. But she got it all sorted and now is enjoying her success.
veronica carlson A lot of pish!
It wasnt even a breakdown or whatever, she just recueved the bombshell that she has aspergers and had to learn to vote with it
She went from obscurity to instant world fame. Then add to that being on the autism spectrum and yeah, she had to backstep for a time to figure herself out a bit. But she came back strong and I am SO impressed with how she weathered it all. Good for her!!!
Despite the fact that he is a stinker sometimes, Simon was very protective of Susan.
Simon said that wasn't true.
She is a lovely lady, and she blew them all away. Shame on them for thinking she was a joke.
Karen Lovett The whole format of the show though is that it mixes joke contestants (who think they are way more talented than they are) with real amazing talents. I’m sure the show realized what it had and sent her out after a couple of pretty good performers, right when the judges and audience would be expecting a ‘joke’. And she had a lot of the signs of one. The producers must have been dying laughing backstage when they caught that Simon eye roll on camera before she started.
I just checked the net. Her current net worth is $40 million dollars,. It worked out for her :)
To hear her singing.... brings on tears...amazing!
Thanks for the dollar update.
Money helps but she still shops locally ( I helped her reach for a Christmas elf on a high shelf at one point) and emotionally I believe her fame has taken its tole. She is a shy woman.
@@nyssaplum9732 She has been diagnosed with Asperger's so it isn't shyness, per se but it definitely comes across that way. I love that she can keep doing what she loves to do on her terms and have the solitude she needs when she wants it. It took a couple of years to settle in to the life she has now and yes, there was too much too soon as far as public appearances and acclaim but she has a management team that seems to understand her and her needs and don't push her too far.
That's just money, her true worth is in her voice and her heart.
The main thing I love about these "blow everyone away" auditions is knowing you just watched someone's life change.
Watch Charlotte and Jonathan's first audition on BGT 2012. When Jonathan stepped on stage, Simon said "Just when you think things couldn't get worse".
Susan did a cover of The Rolling Stones, wild horses
Truly amazing rendition
YES!!!! OMG that was amazing.
Golden buzzer performance, love that song she was so humble too
She sang with Elaine Page too. Check it out.
@veronica carlson I imagine because it is hard to sing well
Oh I love that song, where can i hear it?
You can see Simon's Cowell's eyes popping with dollar signs when he stares at Susan lol
You've ruined my perception of that! Lol. I honestly thought he was truly in love with her voice and her performance.
He looks like he's in love at one point... gets an almost angelic look on his face as he sees dollar signs. LOL
Simon already knew who she was, without Susan knowing. Simon is head of production and she was the 'big story'. They used a bit of tv magic to make it look the way it did onscreen. Simon was acting. And it worked!
Susan had the last laugh, she got her musical career and is now, due to this performance a legend.
This was an epic moment. I love how Simon rolls his eyes right before she starts singing. That was a shock for everyone.
Hombrequemiralaluna I love that Simon was the one that got Susan in the studio after BGT and and made her “ professional singer “ career happen, her first album went multi platinum !and he was there with her every step and is still one of her greatest supporters. You can see by the end of her performance he already had all of this in mind..
Simon did a great thing for that lady developing her talent and made her life comfortable beyond anything.
This song is called "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables.
I get a lump in my throat every time I watch Susan's audition. Her commanding performance isn't staged; which made her more endearing. A great moment from "talent show" history ♥️
Incase anyone didnt know she has asperger's, if an aspie ever tells you they like doing something you had better know they are good at it, we are the best at what we do, now are our social skills kinda meh? Yeah but like why even bother with social skills lol
Actually she decided she'd like to work on social skills to smooth her way in her career, so she got some coaching. She now has an easier time with interviews and talking to audiences on tour gigs while remaining very much herself.
@@jgw5491 im glad shebremains her true self, but i do want to clarify that i never said someone on the spectrum shouldnt learn to translate to neurotypical, all i was saying is that if you talented enough you dont have to, it goes from that weirdo to that eccentric star
Social skills are required by extroverts they've always run the world. As an extreme introvert who is constantly misunderstood, screw em. A lot of these social "rules" are made to make extroverts feel comfortable. They feel mostly arbitrary anyway. You just be you.
As for the extroverts out there that get all offended because someone didn't fake smile on cue or insincerely ask how you're doing or what you're up to today... get a grip
@@angeleyesgreen1586 ive had to learn them for my job in ems but if you can get away with not learning them do it, we are the next stage in evolution anyway
social skills are over rated, do you like bread?
She came second to a dance group - but she had hit albums and even managed to make stuff with the star she mentioned (Elaine Page)
Diversity the dance group is also very successful .
I remember this like yesterday! It still gives me goosebumps! I thought it was wonderful. My late father used to say never look down on anyone unless you are helping them up!
She ended up becoming a huge success after the show
I've never been able to watch this without crying. I've bought every cd she's come out with since this performance just to support her. She's the best!
Damn!! Why there always seems to be onions around whenever I watch this.
Watch Jonathan and Charlotte when they auditioned for British Got Talent. Another case of "don't judge a book by its cover"
Lorinda Cox saw that one, always makes me cry !!
I cry every time I see this. absolutely beautiful! Watching your reaction brings back the amazement and awe I felt the 1st time I saw this!
Another great one is Evelyn Williams on irelands got talent incase you havent seen it
Me too
The perfect analogy of never judge a book by its cover. She stunned them.
The first time I watched this video I was in tears, not just the beauty of the song and her voice but the way she didn't stand down and she triumphed. Of course, that talent is God given but regardless of whether we have such a talent we shouldn't stand down from our dreams. I've watched it multiple times whenever I've needed some inspiration or a pick me up. I'd hope this would bring so many people to a realization. Even if she'd ended up not having such a great voice, she should never have been ridiculed. BTW, I don't believe the initial reactions of the judges and the audience was necessarily set up in advance but I do believe there was probably a bit of manipulative camera work on the audience. I'm so glad that you (India) reacted to this and I enjoyed watching your perception of it.
You need to react to her song wild horses, to see what a star singer she turned into. The best!
That reaction was very much real. The judges are given a sheet with minimum info so they can ask relevant questions but no they do not know what is coming. The audience reactions are genuine. They are not going to give that kind kind of reception if they don’t like the performance.
Read her story, it is amazing. She has become a multimillion. Susan only came in second to a teen age dance group. They were good but there was a late negative last minute media backlash against Susan that cost her the win. Didn’t matter, she has had an amazing career and made a ton of money and has millions of devoted fans. She has performed all over the world for heads of state including the Pope and the Queen of England.
Shes the perfect example of the saying, 'never judge a book by its cover'.
Susan Boyle went on to be quite successful as I remember. She had a little difficulty with fame and all the attention at the beginning. But, she was no flash in the pan. She even covered Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," and he at first didn't grant permission for it to be included on her album but when he heard her sing it -- he had no objections. She continues to record and perform to this day. I often wonder how many Susan Boyle's are really out there.
She did have a bit of a pause when she was diagnosed with ASD because it kinda rocker her world a bit but I think she is back at it I'm not sure, if nothing else I'm proud to call her my ASD sister
@@ConstantChaos1 - I understand. I worked with special needs students later in my career, many with ASD. But your personality and how you do your little reviews are delightful. I don't have the patience to do that. I just write music reviews published in blogs and magazines.
@@lastrada52 well online we are all working with the same information so I can socialise without having to actively engage my learned tricks, so when I see an opportunity to spread a new viewpoint I usually take it, the world is an intersectional place and without someone doing it many people would never get an introduction to other viewpoints
It also helps that I have a bunch of free time rn lol
@@ConstantChaos1 She was startled by her diagnosis but relieved, too. She had been told most of her life that she had brain damage from the rough delivery her mother had. No brain damage was found when she got tested. Just Asperger's. There are strategies for adjusting to ASD as you well know. Besides career success she now has easier social relationships and a better self image. She deserves every bit of her happiness!
Just about everyone has trouble with fame. Especially in this instance when you are over 40 and live in a small town, tremendous fame would be a stress on just about anyone.
i always bawl like a baby when i see her sing. she is beautiful with a beautiful voice. people can be so cruel. she showed them and i love it !!!!!
Susan came in 2nd , but she became very famous and has many great albums.
I've never quite understood her coming in 2nd!!
She was on champions & got golden buzzer. I’ve seen this performance so many times & it still gives me chills. She is a rich lady now but chooses to live in her childhood home. There are reports of her having meltdowns at times but has bee diagnosed with asperger’s. She has done a duet with Elaine Paige & sold millions. India, you should react to her performance of “wild horses” where she got the golden buzzer on champions.
I don't mind saying I've watched that video a million times over the years, and I love all of Susan Boyle's music , every album, every song! You should a least list to the recorded version of I Dreamed A Dream, proof that Susan Boyle is one of the best and greatest singers in the world. It took all that time until 2009 for her to be discovered, who knows how famous she would have been in the 80's and the 90's..
This is the perfect example of, don't judge someone by the way they look. I love Susan's music.
Every time I watch this it brings tears to my eyes. Ultimate fairytale. From an unemployed middle aged woman in government housing to a multi millionaire huge in America. Never judge a book by its cover
They judged her because of her looks, but boy she blew them away with her enormous talent! International superstar now!
The song is called "I Dreamed a Dream." Just to let you know. Not "I do the dream" :)
@ if you watch her other videos it seems like she has trouble reading. She may be a bit illiterate.
@@patwelch8187 She is into Drill Music now having got bored with Grime....
Just a note, I wasn't really trying to take the wind out of her. Just letting her know. I thought perhaps she read it wrong, which can happen sometimes. Especially with unfamiliar names. :)
it could be a "play" on words...
There's a lot of disgusting racism in this thread and there are a few people here who should keep their idiocy quiet.
Great reaction, India. You had her back, sister. That is what I like about you. If you ever have a chance, listen to the music from the musical Les Miserables. There is a great PBS special on the 25th anniversary that will knock your socks off. Susan is not in it, but the song she sang is.
I think the best Britain's Got Talent audition was of "Jonathan and Charlotte". Poor young 17 yr old Jonathan was laughed at and ridiculed because of his heavy size but then he ended up showing just how talented he was. It made me cry.
Paul Potts ?
Penny Private I saw that, bawled my eyes out !
If you search Jonathan Antoine you can listen to what he's performed more recently and see that he's matured a lot since BGT. He is really an amazing talent.
@@Isleofskye Have you heard Jonathan Antoine?
I have not carl but I will give him a listen as the comments all seem very favourable...
That is how you shatter doubt. Mrs. Boyle is undeniable, no doubt can exist when someone is undeniable.
Susan Boyle, along with Jonathan & Charlotte are my two top favorites!! Such wonderful raw talent and so beautiful.
❤❤❤
Just need to say. I was in the audience of this and other Britain’s got talent shows. The audience are not prompted at all, the audiences can cheer or boo. A lot of booing and the act get the big x
She is assuming it's the same as what happens to audiences in American shows.Just like the American reality shows that are always scripted
She has several albums I have most of them. I am a huge fan.
It turned out that Simon and Susan became good friends. he protects her and cherishes her. She suffers from ashbergers, and struggles with extended social settings. Simon stays with her. a beautiful soul...like you India.
she is not a act. this is her.a srong personal story behind this woman
This is one of the most inspirational performances I’ve ever seen. It always brings a tear to my eye.
Watch Charlotte and Jonathan's First audition on BGT 2012. A few months before the audition, Jonathan had quit school and was suicidal because of all the bullying he had endured, When Simon saw Jonathan on stage he said "Just when you think things couldn't get any worse."
You can see the £ signs in Simon's eyes
She was amazing
I think the sweetest part is when she’s done & just starts to exit stage left cuz she’s done 😂🥰 I have had this video saved for years.
Have you watched Charlotte and Jonathan's first audition on BGT 2012? Just a few months before their audition, Jonathan had quit school and was suicidal after years of being bullied. It's one of the best audition videos ever.
The last two lines of lyric gets me every time when she sings it.
"I Dreamed A Dream" is the accurate title of the song.
India, yes! I'm totally with you.
This was back when it was somewhat less scripted. They really did prejudge her with disdain. Then she literally became an overnight phenomenon. When Simon smiles like he did, you can see the $$$ floating in front of his eyes.
Susan Boyle has had a hard life, sheltered in a little town. She has a phenomenal voice, is a superstar around the world, but still lives in her little family home. Always an outsider, awkward, "odd" she was finally recently diagnosed with being on the spectrum. A truly incredible voice and sweet person. There are documentaries on youtube about her that are interesting. She was a genuine surprise back when the show wasn't nearly as fake as it is now.
Hey! I have a request that I think will blow you away. A singer I only discovered last year. (You did a reaction to her Broken Vow, but my song request below is even better, I think.) She's not well-known in the US at all, but been around a long time, hugely respected outside the US. Calls herself a songwriter who sings. She has the most velvet soprano (I gravitate to contraltos usually), has astonishing mastery of her technique, and the most incredible stagecraft I have EVER seen. I don't stan, but this performance made me an instant superfan.
Please, please do a reaction to Je Suis Malade czcams.com/video/dVvlmpo5g9k/video.html (with best English subs)
She didn't write this one, but made it her own in a big way. (Fabian is fluent in French, English, Spanish and Italian. And writes songs in all of them. I'm jealous. My brain just doesn't work that way.😂)
I would so love to see what you think of the performance. And through you maybe expose your other subscribers to a singer they might really enjoy but have never heard of. Because this is the performance that seems to get people hooked.
Sorry to be so wordy! I'll stop now.
Take care! ☮
Susan's a legend. Nobody will ever top this audition. Nobody.
If you liked that, you should listen to her singing "Wild Horses".
If you like surprises, I'd also suggest, from Britain's Got Talent, Jonathan and Charlotte
Yes, India. Look at the audition of Jonathan and Charlotte.

I always love that look on Simon's face near the end---he looks like he's in love, lol.
I like how you said she was about to knock it out of the park. And she did! Her whole being is perfection.
Please remember this was British TV. The Audience Reactions are REAL. British People do not need to be told when they got it wrong with their opinion and show their real feelings.
she became an international kind of superstar.
Susan Boyle could have been discovered years earlier as she appeared singing in one of Michael Barrymore's TV shows. Unfortunately Michael did what a lot of people did during Susan's life and that was to take the piss! He made fun of her for a cheap laugh which is what Michael was all about. Here's to Susan, who plodded on in her own way and made it to the top x
40 million dollars later baby!!! 2021 Susan loving life
2009--I read about this sensational audition in the newspaper and for the first time found you tube , bgt, and the first time the at that time 62 years old guy ever had tears streaming down his face just because of someone singing. Thousands of hours since then listening to singers such as Angelina Jordan, Dimash, Morrisette and a multitude of other just wonderful singers. Thanks for your reaction---the first new one to Susan Boyle in a long time
Heard this a dozen times - still get goosebumps
I enjoy the positive energy. Thank you.
I’m one of Susan Boyle’s biggest fans, she has one of the greatest singing voices, she belongs up there with the legends of her time, because if she was discovered in the 80’s or the 90’s she would have been a star back then!
They don't give the audience instructions. I truly believe that. This was the most amazing moment ever on Britain's Got Talent. It taught the judges a lesson in humility. She came in second. She has a successful singing career now but it is also suffering from Asperger's disease. She still lives in the same modest house she had is the same person that she has always been. She has gotten to sing for the queen which was why she really wanted.
She blew everyone away with her voice.
Probably my favorite BGT video. She's amazing. I got her first CD and then her Christmas CD, they're so good, nothing like listening to wonderful vocals.
Susan Boyle was such a surprise. She definitely blew everyone away. She looks lovely. God bless her. What a voice.
India, Susan Boyle is the One That Blew The Roof Off, for many performers after this Audition, and BGT. She is now a legend.

She is fabulous . And you have a beautiful attitude India .
This happened TWICE on this show.
Someone, considered ungainly, appeared, and immediately everyone thought " No chance" especially as this Lady was 47 and LET US BE HONEST here .If you have not demonstrated your talent by 30/35 that, realistically, is that but not this time.....the first of 2 enormous shocks :)

I just love everyone's reaction when she started singing... they ALL judged her on her looks alone.... until she started singing.
This is so touching... Thank you! ❤👍
I love this - what a shock for everyone! What a talent
Never never judge a book by its cover. A lot of people learned that lesson from Susan. Especially Simon. And I love Elaine Paige too!
The female judge later made fun of Susan and mocked her in a skit wearing a frumpy dress with a sash tied around the waist. The judge did get a lot of negative press because of it. Rightfully so.

If you are going to watch Paul Potts it has to be the duets with the South Korean singers. One of them is named Ali. My advice would be, before you watch them, get to know some history of the Korean divide into North and South. You may know already. It will help you to understand the songs better. Try and see the ones with English subs. Along those lines, watch Ali's performance of ' does anyone know this person.' X
They don't tell the audience to do fake stuff on this show.
That audition was in Glasgow at the armadillo at the secc(Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre), there's something you need to know about an audience here. You don't need placards to tell a glasgow crowd to applaud. We would just ignore the person holding the card and go with what we feel. plus my cousins husband was a camera operator on the show.
I never get tired of watching this audition. She just knocks it out the park! Fantastic!!
