  • In this just-before-Christmas episode, we tackle a few restoration aspects of my 1968 Honda CT90 K0.
The original plan was to get the bike back on the road, and then put together videos detailing the work done on the electrics, the engine, wheels, frame etc separately. However it's taking far too long, so I'm just putting together the videos as I go along -- so everything is subject to change!
The wiring loom on the bike has had it, the USA sunshine has baked the wires solid. So we decided to make a new one from scratch, since it's a relatively simple bike, omitting certain unused wires (indicators!) out of pure laziness.
I hope you enjoy this video, and I wish you all a very merry Christmas! More videos to follow in the new year, hopefully we'll get the Honda on the road before too long...
    Cheers,
    Alex

I have a 1968 ct90 as well. I'm excited to find someone working on the wiring for this bike. Mine was in a minor crash and someone who didn't know what this bike was tried to "fix it" so I'm missing a few bits and wires are cut or missing, so this helps ALOT. thank you

Hello there Alex, nice to see some content with Hondas. I have a vintage Honda scooter and I have spark but it’s weak even with the new coil. I cleaned and gapped the points to specs, but I’m suspecting that I might have a stator problem. Can you advise me on how to test it? Any advice would be appreciated thank you for giving me some inspiration to work my bike.

Hi nice relaxing video to watch, I just purchased same ct90 like yours, as I’m struggling to find a carb repair kit for this model , just wondering what kind of carb did you put in yours , and if you have a link for it , thanks and keep those videos coming

I don't have an old loom to work off. Can you give me any idea of formation/lengths. The basics to start it would be great as motor not proved a runner yet and could sort lights etc later. Thanks from Australia.

Hi - here’s the wiring diagram for the K0 with the C90-style ignition switch on the side panel: sep.yimg.com/ay/dratv/wiring-diagram-ct90k0-k1-2.gif
If you have a K0 like this then the wiring loom is about 1.2m long, with the wires splintering off for the stator about 40cm from the engine end of the loom.
You can get rid of the light blue and the orange wires, as these are only used for the indicators which the bike never had anyway! Hope it helps

Hey Alex, completely new at all wiring/battery operations on my 1973 CT90 (K4?). I'm replacing my old battery with a Motobatt (6v MBT6N4 sealed lead acid). Confused about the wiring though, as this new AGM battery only has two wires out, instead of the old battery with two positive cables that attach to the fuse. Do you know much re-wiring needs to be done to make the Motobatt work?

Hi -- not sure actually, but I suspect it might just need the positive wire splitting into two, with one going to the rectifier and one to the rest of the loom via a fuse. I seem to be lacking that part of the attachment to the battery too, so will need to do something similar. It's for later bikes than mine, but for this diagram might help you: oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/CT90(early).jpg

Cheers -- they're just some Chinese knock-off LEDs from eBay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174403269389. For the K0 CT90 you'll want BA7 all round, but I think the later variants use BA9 for all but the neutral light. Hope this helps!

Hey Alex what colour wires come out of your stator.

Hi - I have 4 wires: pink (ac to rectifier), yellow (ac to rectifier and to headlight), white (ac to headlight) and Green/red striped (from neutral switch)
