    My wife and I checked them out at the MDC showroom in PHX. Pretty nice trailers inside and out. At ~$60k to get into the Island, it might be the one for us; but I think I'm going to wait and see how our friends at ROA run it through its paces. If there's a weak spot, they will find it.

    Hey, Shane! So many ROA videos have made me think to myself, "If only it was X, or had Y, and maybe Z, it would be perfect!" Well, the MDC XT16HR Island caravan seems to check all the important boxes for me. I think I'll do a deep dive on MDC and its product line, and will look forward to your in-depth tour of this rig, too!

    • @Camp4evernow
      @Camp4evernow Před 7 měsíci +1

      There is no doubt that Pause is better quality and America built. But MDC seems like great value for the quality. There are way more features on the pause like airbags and Victron but it is also a lot more money.

    • @15Serge
      @15Serge Před 7 měsíci

      @@Camp4evernow I totally agree. For some, Pause would be overkill. We all have different tastes and needs, so I would be more precise if I added 'for what I need', and avoid sounding like I'm making a general statement about what's good or bad for everyone else.

    Nice! Is this a 4 season trailer?

    • @ROAOffRoad
      @ROAOffRoad  Před 7 měsíci +1

      No, it is not a 4 seasons. MDC is making some options that will make the units better in some colder conditions. They have options where they add heated pads to tanks and more insulation around lines and in weak points.

  • @parkcitymacs
    @parkcitymacs Před 4 měsíci +2

    Made in China!! As of early 2019, Market Direct Campers (MDC)relocated the manufacturing to their facilities in China. It had been part of a 12-month plan in order to completely stop manufacturing in Australia . Goals were, cutting costs, quality, outsourcing local jobs, in an attempt to compete with lightweight, full composite construction models in this market.

    • @mgysgtk8835
      @mgysgtk8835 Před 7 měsíci

      @@ROAOffRoad that easy swap out is correct. I have this air conditioner. Works absolutely awesome. Unfortunately, it a power hog off grid. But exactly as you say, there are great plug and play easy to replace air conditioners much more power saving for off grid.

    • @ROAOffRoad

    • @ROAOffRoad
      @ROAOffRoad  Před 7 měsíci

      You have extremely incorrect information. Not sure where you are getting the info? HQ19 was cheaper when they got it the USA. ROA does not control the manufacturer pricing. The manufacture is the one that sets the pricing and we dropped the HQ series because they kept jacking up their prices and lowering their quality. Sorry if you got some incorrect information.

      @@vincentepallin6657 Yes, so sorry. It was extremely frustrating to see HQ19s selling for $40k then they started to increase pricing arbitrarily for no reason. no improvements, no options. Just random increases before Covid. During Covid prices went out of control for everyone, but with the HQ‘s the quality dropped drastically with higher prices.

    The only problem I have is those stupid dinettes. They are uncomfortable and waste space. Eat outside or just have more of a counter against the wall and stools like you have in an island in a normal house. Then you can slide the backed stools under the counter so they are out of the way. I am also not a fan of the extra sink in the bathroom because you have a sink 5 feet away. Then you could have more room for the toilet and shower. Just have a mirror on the cabinet by the kitchen sink that folds out. I like the enclosed awning, but would likely to just a screen and I am not big on the duplicate kitchen outside. Again it is a waste.

    • @ROAOffRoad
      @ROAOffRoad  Před 6 měsíci

      The booth is extremely comfortable? Have you sat in one? We have not had anyone else say that? Everything else sounds like your preference. Most people would disagree and prefer two kitchens and sinks in the bathroom. There are other trailers on the market more like what you want.

    • @toddabbott781
      @toddabbott781 Před 6 měsíci

      @@ROAOffRoad I am a big guy and do not fit in booths. Even when I was younger and around say 220 (6'-2") I did not like booths. The thing is if I go camping I am going to have a table outside. I hate wasting space for redundancies. That is why I do not like a sink in the kitchen and bathroom, I do not like a kitchen inside and outside, and I do not like a table inside and outside. A counter can be used for eating just fine for 2 as that is what the trailer is an should be designed for and it doubles as more counter space, which is usually what it should be used for. You can put your air fryer, blender, and coffee maker over there.
      I like space. I get a bit claustrophobic in these trailers and there is usually no reason for that as they waste so much space with redundancies. I also like putting in things to make the camper more useful or to make it useable for longer periods, so I like the small washing machines and spin dryers made for RVs.
      I also like lots of solar power. Solar panels are not that much, especially when compared to the price of an RV. Spend $3000 and have a 1200-1500 watt system and enough batteries to run at least a day and all the chargers and convertors to go with it.
      I also like the idea of a gray water drain with a long hose as many states allow that with wilderness camping. Combine this with a 100 foot hose and a water pump and filter system (maybe a UV light) and you could pump water into your freshwater tank from a stream or river. Again this might add $1000 or so but be well worth it. Then you can do a composting toilet or something that can last longer.
      With a system like this you would have far more room, be more comfortable, be far more independent (not having to camp in an RV park), and be able to camp for months if needed. With some hunting, fishing, and/or trapping and some dehydrated food you could go out in the wilderness with a significant other for months at a time. Take along an E-bike for each and maybe a canoe and you are good to go.
