I kind of love how well the twins personalities are shown here, abigail has an adventurous, goofy outgoing personality while Wendy is usually the quiet and shy type. I love how perfectly the trailer shows it!!! You guys did an excellent job on this Klei, as usual!

i think they wanted to show us how she died, wendy just pretended there was a rose bush there or something and that cushioned her fall when in reality she fell off the cliff into the water.
The game lore already implied that Abigail was dead before Wendy was in the Constant, as Abigail is the only human ghost that can't be revived

She re-creates the timeline of events that happen, so that she can imagine her sister is still alive. For example Lets say Abigail and wendy went to the flower bush first. got flowers. Then Abigail is like ''lets jump on these rocks'' and falls to her death. Wendy then re-organizes events and details in her mind to cope.
It is you can see the rocks in the bottom before then the flower bed just appears it’s her version of coping she wants her to be alive so she imagined it
Okay but can we talk about how adorable Abigail is, and how much you can tell about her personality just based on less than two minutes of an animation with no words? She's clearly very teasing, and definitely careless. I feel like Wendy (before Abby's death) was more on the cautious side, and didn't put herself out there a lot. It almost feels like Abigail not only wants to impress Wendy, but like she wants to be a bit careless to show her sister that it's okay to loosen up. She also just seems like an outdoorsy type girl.
I like to imagine that Abigail still has a lot of personality as a ghost, even if we as the player can't see it because, well... ghost.

My two fave characters on Don't Starve are Willow and Wendy. Finally, we get a Wendy animation! In terms of the video - wow, it's pretty dark! I mean, it was lovely to see Wendy and Abigail playing together... but it was also really sad to see Wendy all alone. The flower in the bush was a really nice touch - Abigail can't seem to move on due to the unfinished business of dying too young and being without her sister, her other half. I think it is also the unfinished business of Wendy not being able to accept her sister's death and so they will forever remain entwined until they both eventually find peace. Klei's animation and storytelling is so beautiful and fascinating!
That guy is Wendy's father which is Maxwell's brother since Maxwell is Wendy's uncle.
I might be wrong but I think Maxwell lured Wendy into the Constant(DS world) with the hopes of getting Abigail back.

Okay, so basically to summarize the lore we got from this animation: Abigail most likely fell into the water and died, but she pretended Abigail fell into a bush, that or Abgail's death is still a mystery. Wendy was reading about flowers, so it is possible Wendy herself bound Abigail's soul to that flower and thus Abigail would always be with her. This is kind of backed up in Wendy's default skin quote: "Abigail come back! I'm not done playing with you." As if she made Abigail come back to her from beyond the grave, or maybe Abigail bound herself to the flower. Lot that this could mean. Also, we have pretty much confirmed how Wendy is related to Maxwell: She's his niece. From what we can tell that is most likely Maxwell's brother, and Wendy has to be in a way related to Maxwell from the in-game quotes. So I'm pretty certain she is Maxwell's niece. Klei did a fantastic job displaying the lore in this animation, very happy with what they have done with this game!
BinxTheJinx73 in the william carter puzzles (that’s maxwell’s real name) theres a letter from his brother talking about the twins, who are likely wendy and Abigail. This is further backed up by the fact that Wendy examining Maxwell ingame says she feels a certain kinship with him. Also when Abigail falls, you can hear what resembles a car screeching to a halt, possibly explaining her actual death

@@irpanfauzi1160 I don't know if it's a puzzle per se, but it gives us some interesting information- Wendy was searching for a way to contact her sister, through seances, occult, scammers, and dreams. It's an interesting reference to people who were actually doing it at the time, and as we are speaking about magicians, for example Houndini tried to contact his mother, and when he got disappointed, he revealed every scammer he met. Quite interesting stuff, I'd say, and while the market has shrunken, there are still people willing to pay for just a few minutes of talking to their deceased loved ones...
So basically, she fell and prolly died, but it turns out she fell into a bush. I think it's just Wendy's imagination, she tries to remember the good times when Abi was alive, maybe she's 'changing' the memory of her death? Or forget about it? Idk. And then the illusion is stopped by someone from her family and everything goes back to its normal, sad and depressing state. At least that's how I understand it. I don't think it explains how Abi died, it's just Wendy and her imagination, memories.

My theory is that Abigail didn't fall, but died some other way that's more mysterious, that gives her spirit more reason to stick around. I think that the cliff is just part of Wendy's imagination about her sister, and remembering how adventurous she was.

Back in 2013, when I was 11 years old I was so obsessed with Wendy. Her design, her gameplay, her quotes, her general aesthetic - I just loved every part of it. I used to draw Wendy a lot in my notebooks. Now I'm 18 and seeing this trailer just hits different - it actually brings back memories of my childhood. I can't even stress enough how much I love don't starve, how much I enjoy every new animation from Klei and how much this game influenced me (I started learning english to be able to play don't starve - and this summer I'm going to university to study linguistics and become a professional translator). Thank you Klei for everything you've put into this game.

Wendy is one of my favorite characters. I don't understand people who don't feel sorry for her at such moments, probably because they haven't lost any of their relatives and friends. Only those who do not have a loved one nearby, about whose death we know, will understand
I just realized, the flower we see in the beginning 0:00-0:04 is Abigail coming down to see Wendy. And throughout the video Abigail slowly fades away, especially well seen at 1:05. Subtly showing us Abigail is long gone ......

that is the scream imo, in the game the characters all talk with that instrumental voices. Abi falling in the bush is just in Wendy's mind trying to compensate her death.
I mean if she really died from a car accident knowing Klei, they would atleast show a road but they didn't
doubt it was from a car. Remember, the setting takes place in the early 1900s, well before automobiles were truly a cause for concern involving safety. I believe that the sound is actually a scream from Abigail. The characters in don't starve speak in the form of instruments, so it wouldn't be too strange if it was a strident instrument noise such as a flute slowed down to match the slowed down video. So basically my interpretation of the sound is that of the last befallen cry of a young girl falling to her demise.

I love it, that Klei included everything about Wendy in here, like at the end she is depressed just like in game! Actually Abigail's also well made, 'cause she went to these rocks, even when she know she can die, just like in game, when I told her not to fight with this goddamn treeguard. lol

I saw this as an ad first and oh boy, that was an emotional rollercoaster that plummeted straight down into sad town.
I'm bawling- this is so sad- When I first saw this ad, I burst into tears. How dare you make such a beautiful yet sad masterpiece?! ;-;
Her resigned disappointment at the end is what really killed me. It shows that she has these episodes somewhat frequently.
Im pretty sure its not a car screak we hear but a slowed down wendy/Abi scream, remember that in DS world, characters talk the very interesting language of Instrument sound.
And well this happen to be a very high pitch slowed down flute.
You see Wendy rushing toward Abigail with panic as she fall. If you see someone you love thats gonna fall to is death, you might also drop a desesperate scream. Same goes if you are the falling one.
As for the animation, its basicly Wendy trying to recreate in her head playing with her twin sister, supported by the name of the animation: Wish you were here.
The animation also show us one last thing, Abigail is mostlikely realy a ghost and was indeed following Wendy (did Wendy knew or not is not sure, but Id say she did not knew YET due to the fact she just left the place when called leaving Abigail ghost alone)
Overall a nice animation that give us some lore and some cannon apperance as of Abigail and Maxwell brother (the man at the end is very very mostlikely Maxwell Brother, theres like 200 comments in the video talking about it so gonna leave it out of here)
Additionally there isn't a single Car or Road in the video. Context clues. I don't know why everyone seems to forget them when looking for the forest in the trees.

Maybe it's because the whole scene is clearly a fabricated fantasy and that Abigail's actual death doesn't have to be at their family home?
Also, ya'll are so pressed to pull the "it's a slowed-down high-pitched flute scream!" card without thinking "okay why, though?"
Disregarding the fact that I don't think it's a flute at all (and I know my flutes), there are very few things this blatant in sound design that aren't intentional; why did they choose to make a sound that could be construed - VERY CLEARLY - as a car screech if it wasn't an integral element of the audio?
It's not accidental. At best, it's a double reference.
And on top of that, why does it play out of sync, a second after Abigail opens her mouth?
The sound being Abigail's scream contradicts the other instances in the short that SHOULD have voice audio but doesn't.
@Digital Unity If you dig into the other details that we already have related to Wendy, the car noise makes a whole lot of sense.
