I at one point was skeptical of grimdark future.
That's changed.
After playing a 1500 point game of 40k Alpha Legion Vs Iron Hands Primaris and firstborn.
It took about three and a half hours, we where mentally drained from all those extra rules.
40k is too bloated right now. It feels like briefly at the start of 8th it was significantly better.
Grimdark Future though we did the equivalent of a 800 point 40k game (GF points forgotten) took an hour and fifteen.
My only issue was getting my head around the slightly different terms for units threw me off. But a simple copy paste and find replace should solve that.
Only other issue is that it take a bit of care for what units have what, medics etc.
Despite some minor gripes it's a system everyone with a like of wargames should try.

But if it's something useful im always willing to hear.
I think the best mechanic it has, is the ability to take turns activating. Its such a disadvantage / hassle with 40k. Now everyone cowers everything behind a wall, to negate the "what if I don't go first". its kind of ridiculous
I'm looking very interested into one page now... Kings of War was one of my favourite games for a while for it's simplicity. I also very much enjoyed early (index) 8th 40k because of it's simplicity and cleaner rules. Hopefully can arm twist a friend to give it a go in the next few weeks (either grimdark, or fantasy regiments as we are mostly these days playing the old (3rd 40k 6th fantasy) editions of GW games)
I like the simplicity of One Page Rules, without loosing tactical choices that are meaningful.
NOTE - Learned after filming that we applied the "Indirect" rule incorrectly. There were multiple instances where several TAO models should have been shooting those Indirect weapons at -1 because they moved. This probably affected the outcome of the game. Ah well.

@@WylochsArmory Actually, you telling about OPR got me into looking into them, and finding they have the AoFR ruleset got me back into fantasy Warh-...err, War-Gaming.
There really is something to be said about how they ported the meaningful differences of the inspirational games and got them to work - my favourite bit being the fusion rifle being an AT gun by virtue of doing 6 damage, total overkill on anything BUT a tank.
Or the risk of loading up all on elites,leaving you without activations when a hord army can then just keep rolling dice at you, atrittioning you to the next world.
The hero Battle Suit Captain should be called 'p'str'phe.

I enjoy it much more than 9th ed 40k. It's all my local group has been playing lately. GW's ruleset is overly complicated and bloated, and the power creep with each new codex is simply to make the company profitable. GDF is a gamer's rules set.
That is how 40k worked years ago.

So glad I found this game. I was hesitant to start buying miniatures until I found this ruleset. The game is much easier to understand and play consistently without having to constantly look up stuff. Streamlined I would call it. I mainly plan on playing this by myself and it's suited for solo play either with the AI system or my preferred way of just playing both sides. Also, my table is about half the size of a standard playable battle map, so I just halve all the distances for range and movement and it works out pretty well for small skirmishes.

Heck yeah, they are SO much easier to make than crafting videos. And it's the other half of my slogan! ("....Play Games")

Wyloch. At first I was very much pro GW Codex gaming and wasn't interested in 1PR. After dealing with the debacle of going through 8th and now 9th. I have started to move into GDF. And I have really liked what I see. I appreciate the BatRep and hope to see more.
This feels so much like old 40k and the friendly games of my childhood.
I can see this being a possibility for my 40 ish old guard models.....
I like these a lot more than most 40K battle reports. You two use the terrain and tactics to make a more interesting game than the other channels, who tend to be more charge each other and meet in the middle.
OPG is the way to go. Simple rules, straightforward, deep tactical combat. OPR is amazing! I have been looking at alot of gameplay, the rules and armies :) Going in on their Pateron as well for sure. Printer goes brrrr
Oh man that was a really fun match. Really cool to see a really shooty army with a good table for it.
Really loved the volcanic jungle terrain and hope to see it again. Maybe a combined TAO/High Elf army versus an awakened swarm of Alien Hive who have been awaken by the previous battle or something.

I have a playlist of more batreps. I am currently painting up two armies fora a Regiments batrep. And I turned down sponsorship because I believed strongly in OPRs mission and wanted to support it wholly and purely. I still do.
@@WylochsArmory that's awesome to hear, I'm going to be playing some regements soon with my old warhammer and kings of war armies. You should check out oathmark, definitely in the same vein as regements, but has some really awesome narative elements that would be easy as to add in.

Alternating activations make this game waaaay more fun to watch than 40k.
I've switched Kill Team for GF Firefight a while ago, and even though KT also has alternating activations, GFF as a whole feels waaaay more concise and easier to grasp. Sometimes I feel that KT is too badly written, almost every rule has tons of exceptions.
Literally, its VERY poorly written. And the translations? Pure trash
GW lack the ability to write consitant and no FAQ-uped rules.

One page rules are why I am planning on getting 40k stuff now. I just don't want a million books to play something or be forced to buy new books every few years.

the surge titan from the tau seems very strong. Its the MVP x5 of this battle. I dont know what it costs but if it is cheaper than 1000 points then its IMO OP.

I would postulate that large battle suits/mecha that tower over the field do not have to roll for morale...yeah they are piloted but the idea of a mecha is a mobile fortress... i would say the same for a monolith or similar.

(Spoiler Warning) I recommend you name the TAO commander either Commander Foresight or Commander Far-Seeing, in honor of his model's character in the other game (Commander Farsight is probably the coolest Tau out there and is actually a decent person compared to the rest of the Tau). Not to mention he "foresaw" exactly when he'd be needed on the table, and exactly how he needed to distribute his shots to take out his foes and clear the objective. :)
Actually I would suggest either General Confusion or Major Disaster for his name.

Maybe its too harsh but how about if a unit is already pinned and fail another morale test the unit flees?
You can actually force a unit to being routed (removed from the table) if you charge a pinned unit in melee

Your blast 6 against 2 models would only do two hits you can’t make more hits than the number of models in the target unit
Nowadays correct. Back when this was filmed, the Blast rule didn't work that way.

Our target selection was very good, so yes, where it made sense thematically there were full unit wipes.

Game looks like it would benefit from simpler cover rules - "if obscured at all, get cover". Suddenly no checking and arguments.
