  • Laskey Artist Gail Williams, Professor Emerita at Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, shares her fond memories of the late Scott Laskey and why he started making French Horn Mouthpieces. She explains what makes Laskey Mouthpiece rim special, using some elements from her former colleague and legendary trumpet player, Bud Herseth's mouthpiece.
Gail Williams is an internationally recognized hornist and brass pedagogue. She has presented concerts, master classes, recitals and lectures throughout North America, as well as in Europe and Asia. Ms. Williams joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in December 1978, and was appointed associate principal horn in 1984, a position she held until her retirement from the orchestra in 1998. She has been a member of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra and is currently principal horn of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. She performs on a gold-plated Laskey 85GW French Horn Mouthpiece.
    Laskey. Sounds Like Success.

Phil Warsop was making the custom pieces beginning around 1974. Ren made ALL the custom pieces through 1973 (Will Scarlett came up with the numbering system), Scott started at Schilke's that same year ('73) part time and went full time two years later as sales MRG. Phil left in '77 and Mr. Schilke appointed Scott in charge of the custom MPC dept (originally, Terry Warburton was asked but Terry opted for the warmer weather of Fl). I got to know Scott through the years and visited his shop in Lombard, Illinois in 2001 when he teamed up with Ron Pinc (man, did they have some stories from the good ol' days at Schilke's)
