    C1 first question... "I will usually go for a short walk before going to bed."
    The sentence is correct, but it is a bit unusual to use the future tense ("will") to talk about a habit that you usually do. It would be more natural to say "I usually go for a short walk before going to bed."
    The only reason you might use the future tense in this context would be if you were making a promise or a commitment to someone. For example, if you were talking to your doctor about improving your sleep habits, you might say "I will usually go for a short walk before going to bed."
    But in general, it is more natural to use the present tense when talking about your habits.

      "Will" here is a modal verb rather than a marker of the future tense, it implies a habbit

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 🎯 This video is an English level test with questions categorized into four levels: Beginner/Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced (C1/C2).
    01:21 📚 The test evaluates listening, speaking, writing, and reading abilities, but since it's a CZcams video, only listening and some reading comprehension questions are presented.
    07:45 🐊 The protagonist in a story narrowly escapes an encounter with a crocodile while swimming in a river.
    14:20 🍂 "Fall" is the word suitable for all three sentences: a season, a decrease, and the action of putting something aside for unexpected expenses.
    19:09 ⏳ "Will have started" is the grammatically correct sentence for describing an action that will be completed in the future.
    21:40 📝 "Go to extreme lengths" is the suitable phrase to complete the second sentence with a similar meaning to the first.
    22:32 📝 "Aside" is the word that fits all three sentences: it means "climbing" in the first sentence, "given" in the second, and "set apart" in the third.

    Thank you Marina for providing this test for English learners who want to improve their English. May I ask for the confirmation for the item C1
    Which sentence is grammatically correct?
    should we change the above question into "Which sentence is grammatically incorrect?
    In my opinion, A and B are incorrect.
    The correct one for A should be "If you follow me, I will show you to your seats." (Conditional type 1)
    and the correct one for B should be " I usually go for a short walk before going to bed."(Simple present tense/expressing a habitual action). Sorry if I may be wrong. I just want to confirm which one is true. Thank you for your attention.

      @brunob9089 Před rokem

      yeah i thought the same as you, but think of the context: A flight attendant is politely suggesting the obvious "if you will follow me i will show you.." we are used to hearing "if you follow me i'll show.." is it the non-contracted aux. verb "will" that makes it look weird? Or maybe removing the modal verb "will" would make it a bit unpolite "if you follow me, i will show you your seats (implying: if not, then suit yourself) Also, this auxiliary verb in transitive is used to "express consent" . and "show you to your seats" seems to be correct according to merriam-webster, is "conducting" someone to "see" what seat corresponds to the person's ticket
      Man i could be wrong or could be tripping. t "if you can wire the $$$ to me, the product can arrive within 24 hours" - yeah used as a modal... but auxiliary? "If you will listen to him then he won't have to repeat the lecture to the whole class" .. hm i dunno.. sometimes grammar can be tricky, sometimes the "gut feeling" is deemed appropriate . well i'm neither british nor american so please sorry if i'm wrong

    • @linguamarina
      @linguamarina  Před 11 měsíci +2

      We’re usually told not to use “will” after “if”. But this is not completely true. There are cases when it’s possible to use “will” in the conditional clause. One of these is in the example. We can use “will” after “if” when “will” means “be willing to do something”. In this sentence, it’s also a polite way to suggest following this person. The second sentence is also correct. We can use “will” to express habits in the present.

    I love these tests, but a few things bugged me.
    15:20 made no sense to me as the task sounded like you had to use the word "given" 😂. A way to avoid confusion would have been to structure the sentence differently by saying "using the given word".
    Also, the previous question was a bit strange, I have never heard someone say "a fall in profits", it's either a drop or a decrease.
    26:05 why is B correct here? Shouldn't it be "I usually go" and not "I'll"? That sounds wrong to me.
    Overall errors: the ones mentioned above plus another one in the category.

    I'm a middle school student in Taiwan. I has been trying hard to improve my English skill since I found that I really desired to study and stay in the USA for a while (or maybe forever(?). But after putting plenty of efforts into the learning, the result made me question myself "Am I really able to improve my English skill to study abroad?". Cuz it made me really upset. I know that the harder I practice, the closer I earn the achievement, so I'm wondering if you could give some precious and valuable advices to me to improve my English skills?

      I’m a middle school student in Taiwan. I have been trying hard to improve my English skills since I realised that I really want (desire) to study in the United States and want to live there for a while (or maybe forever?) But, after putting a lot of effort into learning English the result made me question myself, “Am I really capable of improving my English skills to study abroad?” So it made me really upset. I know that the harder I practice,the closer I am to my goal. So I’m wondering if you could give me some precious and valuable advice to improve my English skills?
      I really appreciate such high quality videos that you make.
      (Probably I have already made a lot of mistakes and you may not understand what I’ve said in this text.)
      I’ve tried to keep 98% of your original text and vocabulary, in many places I could have used advanced vocabulary but I didn’t as your text still makes sense without it. But keep learning new, advanced vocabulary but only use it where appropriate.
      Your punctuation skills are impressive.
      Please, bear in mind that I’ve used British spellings for this text , as you want to learn American English there is a slight difference in spellings of some words. Also remember that practice (noun) and practise (verb) are different in British and American English.
      I make videos on British and American pronunciation and vocabulary differences, you might want to watch them.
      I think with your writing skills any British or American person would understand you easily.
      Cheers

    According to this test I'm around a B1 level, however, I took FCE about 2 years ago and I got a B2 level. I'm an English teacher and I teach Eng mostly to little kids, so maybe I haven't been practicing enough to keep up my B2. This video was a sign for me to keep studying so I don't get my eng rusty. That was a great experience though, I liked it a lot and it encouraged me to start studying/ practicing English again!

    How come if clause has "will"? 26:07
    B1, B2 an C1 I all got 5/10. I think if the questions of filling a word that is matched with 3 sentences but you also have multiple-choice format, people will not loss the scores at those.
    Besides, at C1, I can also guess the answer of 3 questions in listening test even though I don't actually understand the story.
    So I have wondered whether the differences in formats of the quizz did give or take away people's scores. Thank you for the test! Your English is also beautiful ^-^

    22:20 native speaker here from America. I couldn’t pick the right word in ten seconds for some reason lol. I chose the word “away”. This word fits both 2 and 3 perfectly and I would say put away money over saying put aside money. This being said away didn’t really fit in sentence one so clearly aside is a better word for all of these sentences.

    26:04 As for me, both are incorrect. The firt sentence looks like a conditional one. I have never seen a conditional sentence where both parts of it have future tense. And finally, in the second question I'd use present simple because we are talking about repetetive tasks and we don't know the precise time of action. Or maybe I'm wrong and someone can explain

    • @linguamarina
      @linguamarina  Před 11 měsíci +1
