    Nice custom mount. Have you had any problems with overheating or burning down the place when using convection for medium - longer periods? Generally I thought convection microwaves can’t be built in for that reason, or do you have an extractor fan?

I just got one of these ovens and it says that we need to have 8 inches of clear space above it and around the sides, but if you’ve got it in that custom space you designed, I guess we don’t really need to -? One of those scanners like those “Smart Ovens” (although hopefully self hosted/open source, not all cloud dependent) would be a neat addition (not a full need though, especially with programmable stuff like this one)

On the daily I use it as a microwave like I always have to heat things up etc. etc. but I have used it to roast a chicken and it was amazing, also the soften butter button is perfection. Haven’t use the air fryer exclusively but then again I never had an air fryer so it’s probably not something I will use a lot unless I make a point to just try it out.

    This is a good quality MW oven but I have a combination Whirpool one that I can fit a small turkey inside!!! It has the crisping tray thing, and there's a sensor inside for their "sixth sense" which is really good. It has an infrared grill at the top for crisping. Has a fan at the back and the fan is heated also. The door swings down, not sideways, and it serves as a tray. It is also amazing for defrosting meat. It can do all the simultaneous cooking. It also has TWO metal racks of different heights which helps to grill foods of different heights. The Breville has inverter which is better... If my Whirpool had inverter it would be a killer product as it would be even more accurate. They don't sell it anymore, so this Breville is probably the best option.

  • @strongandco
    @strongandco Před 4 lety +6

    Watch out for the heat that comes out of the back of those things Bob. I found that with longer programs whatever is behind the oven gets seriously hot. I don’t know the manufactures recommendations but I give my combi oven 10+inches clearance behind it on the countertop after a slightly worry experience with a hot socket (rather than a hot pocket) :-)

    • @supasteco
      @supasteco Před 3 lety

      I have the pan but use a panasonic combi MW. The pan is the best, great design, very robust - mostly just wipe clean, no effort, nothing sticksand it will withstand all the oven tempuratures including a mix of convection plus grill... pre-heated it does perfect pizza too. Pondering whether to change to this MW model as it looks a big improvement on their last one. Just wish the top element hinged down (like samsung) to make cleaning the roof easier! Looks great though, to boot!

    • @moniquem783
      @moniquem783 Před 3 lety

      @@supasteco thanks! That’s really helpful! Also confirms for me that there is an element at the top and therefore it should be possible to grill/broil toast occasionally. Flipping halfway through would be way less annoying than pulling out the toaster for the maybe once a month that I use it. So now my only concern is the cool down feature. My current microwave has that and it drives me nuts, so I’m trying to work out if quieter beeps will make me less nutty and able to cope with the cool down. It might be quieter than my current one, but no stores near me have it in stock so I can’t go listen to one. I’m trying to hold off until I move too as the Breville is supposed to have 20cm of air space all around it. Was a bit confused by that at first but of course it’s because it’s an air fryer too. I just think it will look weird to have an empty microwave space and then a big microwave thing on the bench when potential buyers come through.

    • @RobertMoseley
      @RobertMoseley  Před 4 lety +1

      According to their listings, it is not supposed to be built in because it is not properly insulated and vented for that. However they are talking about it being put in an enclosed space where it is right up against the metal, etc. Mine has a lot of space behind, above and on each side, being in a corner, there is a good 10" or more inches above and behind it with about 3" - 6" on each side and the filler panel is vented.
      If I notice that it is getting too hot on a long term cooking job, I might pull it out and add some fire proof insulation around it for extra measure.

      Yeah that was Bob's last video, he didn't read the instructions that said the unit needed ventilation might be dangerous in small spaces

    yeah, try putting metal foil in a microwave oven. I did that on accident once. It was exciting. I think the larger metal fixtures aren't a problem, though I'd never try that unless the manufacturer said to do it.

    Interesting Review (Thank you, Bob)
    And, preceeding comments well noted!
    A quick question of concern, regarding cleaning the 1930's heating element ... !?
    Sooner of later; the oven side of the cooking ... it's heating element in the top of the microwave (which is very exposed) '''will'''; sooner of later, get food particles up on it (for example, a great round of cheese-on-toast) those particles, will get roasted and burnt onto that element ... !? How can you easily clean that element of all burnt food particles, without, leaning in there with a little pan scrubber and scrubbing off all those burnt particles ... and thats if you can get them all off! You won't ... !!! Especially around where the heating element mounts to the inner oven casing ... !? Does the element, pop-out for easy cleaning ... !? A 2022 '3-in-1' microwave with a 1930's cleaning problem ... !?
    Or, is there a button you press and some magic Genie (dressed in her little nothings ... !) pop out and clean the oven for you ... Haha!
    I don't want to go backwards in time; having to put on a full set of overalls and climb in there every so often to de-coke that 1930's heating element; and, if you '''don't''' clean it, every so often; YOU WILL GET A SMOKER, AND PERHAPS WORSE ... Weep !?
    Love any thoughts ... !?
    Best ...
    William (Hampshire UK)

    Did you try it out first to see how hot the outsides get? Burn your fingers hot, or just warm to the touch? I need to replace my 30 year old Kenmore Micro/Convection oven and it sits in an opening under my counter top. It doesn't get that hot to the touch after baking for an hour. Your comment would be apprehended.
